From the InsidePool.com website:

Strickland added, “I’m a longwinded player, if you give me four hours on the table you’re never going to win but with an hour and a half I am more vulnerable and I don’t agree with that. They are denying me the right to dominate in a sense.”

Gotta love The Pearl.:D

EFREN gave him WAAAAAY more than 4 hrs:rolleyes:

yes i think all pool matches should be 8 hours long and the winner is whoever is leading or whoever is still standing. it's the only fair thing to do.

is it just me, or is earl making more excuses for himself?

he started with the "ban the jumpcue, break from the box, smaller pockets, 9 ball is to easy etc."
They've done all that. is it time for earl to shut up?

Earl just needs to shut up and play. I mean no disrespect to him but come on and just play the game,if you win great if not try againg. But don't wine all the time I get sick of hearing him find fault with every one and thing. JMO.

Is he a role model for kids? No. But he is a great player and competitor, and he gives everyone a lot to talk about, without really hurting anybody.

This is a really great point. Put up or shut up IMO.

Earl is a top pro. There are a handful of people in the world that can mess with him in a long race...for instance Efren in that color of money match. If you watched that btw, you can see that Earl can play the same speed all day long. When you're talking race to 7 playing 9 ball, differences in speed don't carry over as much. In comparison, 9 ball is too simple (especially with big pockets) so the difference between a top pro and say a middle pro are leveled by the playing field. Personally, I'd much rather watch 12 ball...I think you'd see a big change in the player rankings if that happened.

I have to agree with Egg on this. Earl may talk alot but he is a complete player with more game than most pros. 5 time world champion. That is pretty impressive.

I live in the same town as Earl and he has always had some type of excuse. One time he said the ceiling fans were blowing the pool balls offline! Imagine that. But by far one of the all-time greatest. He is a good golfer too.

Thanks David! I guess it's just another variation of rotation, like 10-ball. I practice full-rack rotation all the time. Where did this come from...I've never even heard of it before?

I'm not sure. John Schmidt is the one that showed it to me. Perhaps he knows where it orginated.

Blackjack - what are your thoughts on whether the difference between low/middle/top pros would be more discernable playing 12 ball vs 9 ball?

I don't know about 12 ball, but I know that 10 ball is a much better test of skill due to the break - and they should have switched to it years ago. I credit Joe Tucker for pushing 10 ball as the game of the future and John DiToro for following through with it on the Florida Men's Pro Tour. You really don't see many games being won from the break and it sort of levels the field.

As far as 12 ball being a test, I think it all comes down to the player. There are more clusters that you need to deal with, so I would give the edge to players with 14.1 experience than merely 9 ball experience. Against the 12 ball ghost, players such as John Schmidt or Thorsten Hohmann, and Gabe Owen would definitely excel against mid-level pros. The only thing that scares me about that idea is having to suffer through a match of 12 ball with Kid Delicious & Ralf Souquet - lol - 9 balls takes long enough.

Would 12 balls make a discernable difference? With the best players in the world, no. With the the second and third tier - most definitely.

I am pretty sure the 12 ball ghost came from too many players beating the 9,10, and 11 ball ghost. I saw Alex beat the 12 ball ghost where he had to spot all the balls he made on the break if he fouled on the break.

I don't know if this relates to playing the ghost much, but I'll say it anyways. About two years ago, I was playing in a 15-ball rotation ring game. There were 5 of us, and one of the players was a well known shortstop, but when he's in stroke, he can play like a pro. Well I've never seen this done before, but he broke and ran a 3-pack of 15-ball. We were all shocked and we quit shortly after. LOL
