EARL STRICKLAND Returns to TEAM USA

I sent Earl a message. Congratulated him on being named to the Mosconi Cup team. Told him to show the youngsters from Europe what greatness really is.

He wrote back with a thumbs up.

who is Justin Martin? bracket says he is from the US- made it to the round of 32 and barely lost to Ouschan 10-9. Must be a solid pro

You were oblivious to the better talent near your border so I clued you in. You're welcome... ;)

Alex and John would make team "America" stronger than it currently is. You're reaction to me pointing out this reality was fully expected, and typical.

The USA can't compete, so yes I think you need to expand your thinking. How about Europe vs the rest of the world (with a token american).
Which American since Shane has a losing record? Does Earl have a losing record?

Lost in much of this is the shorter races in MC. Short race, Earl has the ability to hang with anyone. Will he? Well, thats why we watch, or at least pay attention.

I'm rooting for him to at least contain the antics enough to play his game. A little bit of the show is welcome, in my opinion. Problem is that Earl doesn't do anything halfway...

Its gonna be interesting.

(Call me delusional, but I'm still holding out hope the MD matures a little, and decides to play a little again, down the road. Not counting on it, hoping...)

Does not matter what Earl's record WAS or what his accomplishments WERE. We all know them. Bottom line is his inclusion in the 2021 Masoconi cup is a slap in the face to up-and-coming players (and there are many of them) and it's no way to build a team. Someone hit the nail on the head when they stated that Earl's inclusion is for entertainment of the European TV audience and demonstrate to them that there is at least one game where Europe can kick the USA butt. Hope his apologists were able to see his play against Grabe in the current International Open, it was a sorry sight to see. Beating no name players means nothing.

I get the impression MD has already matured enough since his departure from mainstream pool. He just doesn’t have the incentive to go back to that life.

First time I seen earl at DC he was bitching at the fans for applauding a Japanese player. Disgusting to see a professional disrespected at one of the best events in the country. That's who we want representing the usa. Not this guy

He did beat Konrad J (can’t spell his last name) before he lost to Grabe. I think Konrad has a fairly high Fargo rating

It was just more than opening his trap about SVB, he ruined his own public image with many many blunders and talking out of line and too much. Sad story, pool lost, MD lost and here we are.
Ruined his own public image with many many blunders and talking out of line and too much?

Sounds just like Earl Strickland.

Bro, appreciate your input. But, how about you follow the rules and drop the political commentary? Please?

You are right.

Sadly some people struggle in life for what ever reason

The promoters are Jumpin' The Shark. They're desperate. The Earl choice is to draw viewers. If they need Earl to draw numbers, they are in trouble.

Anyone has video of Earl pushing his opponent at the recent 14.1 Championship and got disqualified, I'd love to see Earl in action...

In all seriousness, is there anybody in the pool world that can calm Earl down when he goes on tilt? If so, that person needs to be involved in some capacity on Team USA. Otherwise, odds are fairly high that he will lose it when something goes against him and then his quality of play will deteriorate.
I never let him go on tilt. I put a stop to it the minute he got out of line. He knew better when I was around. There were some tournament officials who looked the other way though.

Why are people talking bad about Earl? I don’t know about all of you but if I put in a consistent 8-10 hours a day practicing for 10-20 years or more and then missed a few easy ones in a real match, Even if a couple were kind of hard shots. I would look a bit mental out there. Especially if the anxiety I deal with regularly kicks in. And I’m super laid back most of the time. As reference I went a little nutty at my first tournament a few weeks ago after missing some easy ones and I’m out of practice. Refrained from being outwardly mental, but could’ve easily thrown a chair I was so pissed off!

It's better to be pissed off than pissed on.

Does anybody know how much they pay in appearance bonuses?
I do, and like anything else in pool it’s not enough. With challenge matches, and their rooms paid for minus gas if they drive $1000-$1250 is a good weekend for a pro to make appearance in a room. Sometimes it’s more but not often. It sounds like more than it is, it’s 3 days so $300-$500 a day and their whole weekend is accounted for.

This is a NOT a specific Earl rate, most all the top guys get around the same-Earl too.

Occasionally if there’s a tourney and they can win that then the weekend is more profitable. It’s tough action, but sometimes the only action.

It’s not easy, and the numbers can be fuzzy. Sometimes less or more. Point is they ain’t getting rich and the trips can be long. 7-8-9 hour drives. Etc.

Hard way to make a easy living

PS if you like the show, tip them. They earned it

Thank you for the solid answer.

Will the rate go up for the Mosconi Cup? My real question is this: is a strong appearance bonus an incentive for a guy like Earl? More to the point, at this stage of the game, what's in it for Earl?
