Are you kidding me?People just did'nt wake up one day and think lets berrate Earl,Earl is the bad boy of pool,Lets pick on Earl.quedup said:Earl is deserving of much more respect from all pool fans. He has nothing to prove to anyone and his records speak volumes. His reaction, which is what it was, is due to some low life sheit stirring moron provoking him.
It is the fans that start the problems and then blame the players for reacting after being provoked. It is kind of like the fools that go to the zoo and provoke a wild animal and end up getting attacked, usually the animal pays the ultimate price!

cbi1000 said:...But now we have Earl and other plays that treat the game like crap, so the sport suffers....
cbi1000 said:John S. lost a first round match at a tournimnt and decided to take off and play golf instead of sticking around to play out the other matches. If i was a sponsor of the event i'd want that guy around to play because i know people would be there to see players like John S.
cbi1000 said:Earl him self cheating a tv match playing Charlie W just a couple years back. His body was blocking the ref's view when Earl bump a ball with his stick or arm and they were playing foul on all balls. Charlie says it's ball in hand right, Earl hit the ball with this stick. The ref said i didn't see it and Earl says the ref didn't see it too bad for you.
cbi1000 said:There is a big deal going on in snooker about players dumping just recently.

JAM said:So what? Nobody is paying John Schmidt's bills except John Schmidt. He was not getting an appearance fee to shoot in that tournament. What people don't seem to realize is that pool players, unlike other sports celebrities, don't have sponsors, agents, backers, or organizations. It's every man for himself when it comes to paying their own personal bills. Nobody out there is sponsoring pool, and the player has to pay their own costs for every single event.
Come compete for us, Pro Player, so we can watch you. Dance, monkey, dance! After it's all said and done, we can rip you apart as scum of the earth. Dance, monkey, dance. While you're at it, pay your own way to the dance, so we can condemn you live. What a pity you had to pay all your own expenses, the hotel, travel, and entry fee. Too bad you can't break even on expenses unless you come in first, second, or third. Dance, monkey, dance, you low-life bum without a job. Dance, monkey, dance.
Again, I can count on one hand how may American players have a sponsor and/or a fat stakehorse, and it's less than five.
Unlike the majority who cast their opinions about this particular incident, I happen to have been there, right there, up front and close, in person. Believe me when I say Earl had no idea he had committed a foul until well after this match. I saw him in the hallway and spoke to him about it. He was shocked that anybody thought it was a foul. He just didn't see it until he saw the TV re-broadcast.
And another thing, at that Skins Billiards tournament at the Atlantic City Resorts Hotel and Casino, each of the 16 competitors were warned in the players meeting that when the referee spoke, they were to obey. NOBODY and I mean NOBODY was to question a ruling, a rack, anything. That was expressed very strongly by Matt Braun. So, no matter what Earl thought, he was obeying Scott's ruling.
But it has not been proven yet, has it? Do you know something? Were you in on the so-called "dump"? That's the only way you can state for sure, with 100 percent confidence, that it was a dump.
Don't worry, my little chickadee, soon there won't be any more American pro players. Enjoy American professional pool while you've got it, so that you can ridicule and condemn the players themselves.
Professional pool is on the downslide, thanks to the unfounded and outrageous opinions of folks just like yourself. If you want to blame something or somebody for the downfall of professional pool in the United States, take a long, long, long look in the mirror.
gunzby said:His records do speak volumes and it is his job and his alone to honor those records. People don't just who up to see if they can get a rise out of him....they show up because they know they can. The fans are incredibly unsportsmanlike, but Earl is also incredibly unprofessional and unsportsmanlike as well. Two wrongs will never make a right......I've double checked and there isn't an i, g, h or t no matter how many times I spell wrong.
On another note: Show me a lion that can play 9 ball and I will agree with that analogy.
Jadssons said:Pointing the finger at everyone but who is directly involved...thats sad. Dumping DOES happen...100%. It even happened at the IPT events and that was supposed to be pool's savior. If the players want better tournaments, sponsors, respect, etc. they have to be willing to work hard and prove themselves to earn it. And, if playing pool doesn't pay the bills, then find a job that does.
Jadssons said:Actually, I am pretty fortunate. I have a great job that allows me the comfort to do pretty much whatever I please. I worked hard with school and other jobs that prepared me and made some really good contacts along the way. I have never once thought that I "deserved" anything, I like to think I earned it instead. If I wasn't happy with where I'm at in my life, I would make the changes myself to better it...not sit back and say "I'm not successful because of him or her." One of life's more brutal lessons I guess.
JAM said:But can you make three balls in a row?
Last time I checked, this was a pool forum.
FWIW, I've done okay with my career as well, but it doesn't have a damn thing to do with the industry of pool.
Jadssons said:**Sigh** good luck to you and yours.
JAM said:Earl is, indeed, an American legendary player. I truly hope with all my being that he finds another way to continue his life outside of pool. This is the most unrewarding sport that I have ever encountered. Pool is definitely cruel to its own.
BTW, my relatives, the great-great ones, all hailed from Hickory, North Carolina. They were Cherokee.![]()
Just like the Native Americans, the American pro players are becoming extinct. What incentive is there for young people to get into the sport? None. Soon there won't be any more professional pool. We can all enjoy pool recreationally, on the league, at the neighborhood tavern, or in our basements.

shinobi said:cbi1000 is correct. I have the DVD of this event and the footage is not ambiguous whatsoever. Earl fouls, he clearly knows he fouled, and he clearly states "The ref didn't see it" to Charlie.
As for whether or not he should have insisted that the referee call a foul, this is an old topic and it's already been discussed ad nauseum so no point in revisiting it.
In this case, your attendance at the event might have actually been a disadvantage. Seeing it on camera it was clear as day, and might not have been so in person.
