Earl Strickland Warnings 2006 WPA

I think Earl Strickland is a true champion. Ever noticed that some of the greats of anything have been a bit "out there"? DPK. Absolute genius when it comes to making cues but he's a little eccentric to say the least. I think Earl is just a case of a genius on the pool table and a bit of a nut off of it. One of the best in the world and will continue to be for years to come. I don't blame him for being a bit cooky. He's a world champion.

Earl something strange

Earl is one of the best of all time.

That being said, I saw all of his matches here in Manila and his first two were a shamefull display of human behaviour. There were two small children sitting right behind his head on the TV table, he saw them, knew they were there, and yet he was cussing left and right at everyone and everything until he finally conceeded his match.

He told Nigel (the Ref) "you can DQ me if you want" "i don't want to be here!"

There were a hundred more "colorful" quotes he had that I will not post here.

He was literally pissed off at everything.

its too bad!

I think you missed the purpose and reasoning behind my statement. Lets clear up something and move on, Earl Strickland is a GREAT pool player,He is a "LOUSY REPRESENTATIVE" of the sport.Pool is a INTERNATIONAL SPORT, so when you represent The USA,you are doing just that representing the United States Of America and its people and ideals.He has presented himself time and time again as an embarrassment to himself and most important to his country. Case in point Quote"fell apart when the must-win stage got under way. A totally disinterested Earl Strickland whose boorish behavior irritated his opponents and amused most Filipino fans who have gotten used to his antics was crushed 10-2 by Liu Cheng-chuan of Chinese-Taipei" Enough is enough, lets find those that have the talent and demeanor thats necessary to represent the USA

Perhaps then you could fault him for acting like a fool and showing little or no respect to his opponent throughtout the entire match, then threatening to hit him over the head with his cue when he refused to shake Earl's hand. Perhpas you could fault him for that. No?

I think calling DPK a little eccentric is like saying that earl sometimes gets upset: Its the understatement of the millenium!

Because of Earls deteriorating demeanor and negative behavior his game it too distracted from task at hand. His genius at the pool table has taken a back seat to his self destructive attitude. He needs help, I've know him personally for over 30 years and I miss the electric Earl the Pearl, I hope he can overcome this final challenge before him....it's his biggest opponent. He seems to have allot of blame and pent up emotions that need to be addressed for him to EVER perform at and above his past accomplishments. Great players play well into their late 50's, he still has allot of time left.:(

I agree with you that Earl is an embarrassment to our sport.

Part of the problem may be with the lenient officiating. In other professional sports, Earl's misconduct could be grounds for disciplinary action, such as fines, ejection from the game, and even suspension.

Talk about dredging up old memories... When I was a wee lad, this kid, Charlie, who lived down the street from my grandmother gave me a raisin. Only after I ate it did he confide that he had picked it up off the ground in the goat pen.

Thanks, you've just ruined one of my favorite breakfast meals. I'll never be able to eat it again with out thinking of your fond recollection.

I suppose to substitute this pleasure I'll have to eat raisin bran while watching pool videos(with or with out Earl) in the morning before work.

More Billiard Drama at World Pool Championship

Earl StricklandControverisal American Earl Strickland again stole the headlines on an action-packed Day Two at the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championships.

Strickland, who received a formal verbal winning during his match against Vincent Facquet on Day One, was again in trouble due to his unsportsmanlike behaviour throughout his contest with Chen Ying-chieh.

The match ended 8-6 in Strickland's favour but Chen and the Chinese Taipei delegation filed an official complaint against The Pearl, due to his outrageous antics.

Strickland threw his cue on to the floor after every time he returned from the table, swore at the crowd and threatened to hit Chen with his cue. The actions from the American led to Chen refusing to shake his hand at the end of the match.

The matter was passed over to an official from the World Pool Association, the sport's governing body and they have the power to throw Strickland out of the competition, although a final warning is the most likely outcome.

Earl Apologizes For 'Unacceptable' Behaviour

Earl StricklandEarl Strickland has apologised for his 'completely unacceptable' behaviour during and after his match with Chinese Taipei player Chen Ying-chieh.

American Strickland threw his cue on to the floor after every visit to the table, swore at the crowd and threatened to hit Chen at the end of the match after he had refused to shake his hand.

The Pearl could have been thrown out of the competition and attended a meeting with Matchroom Sport's Tournament Director Sharron Tokley and WPA Sports Director Thomas Overbeck.

After the meeting, a statement was released, including the following paragraphs:

"Mr Strickland...admitted that his behaviour was completely unacceptable and apologised for it. Whilst not excusing his behaviour, he did present valid reasons for it, trying not to excuse himself, but to explain his conduct.

"After reviewing the evidence... Mr Strickland was informed that he is officially warned for his further participation in this tournament that any future misbehaviour will lead to him forfeiting the match.

"Mr Strickland accepted the verdict and has promised to change his behaviour."

I just love people that like to hear themselves talk and what have you ever accomplished in your lifetime.I assume a big fat NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Well it appears you dont know it all.You seem it would be clear that if Earl was in the wrong in Manila he would have been fined however the other player was fined not Earl.It appears that when the truth came out justice was served.
 
Earl did not cuss at the crowd.Why do people try to make more of something?He was not fined the other player was.
