Thats what I am saying.....
but I guess the current defensive posture against me wont allow JAM to see that.

:) Wow...I cant eat pop corn and sit back and watch this anymore..because it seems that in the end AZ will be minus some people posting..Sometime people just dont see eye to eye and no matter how well you articulate your thoughts you are not going to be able to change another persons prespective. I truly dont want to see JAM not post here because of her stand point. She has her perspective on the issue and others have theirs..I think the fire isnt burning the issue, but is now starting to singe the feathers of people personaly. The one thing i take from these forums is that every post has something, usually:) in it that makes me go hmmm never thought about it that way...and trully in some of JAM's post in this thread and others i have thought okay..i see somewhat where your coming from...although i dont completely see eye to eye with jam with the pulling for some one just because they are American. i will however defend her right to think it and speak it..but this reminds me so much of the Rocky movie..take for instant when Rocky was fighting the Russian boxer and everyone that was Russian was booing Rocky and pulling for their guy...but as the fight went on...and the effort and heart that Rocky poured out in that fight won some of that croud over...to me that is what America is about...we are not a forced mind limited to only the concept of us against them...we are free to embrace that which inspires us. Johhny Archer inspired me to play this game as well as Earl..but so does Efren and Bustamante..I dont think i really pick sides during a match..although i really love Johhny and Earl..but i just love seeing a great match and watching the best player, who comes to the table with the most heart and skill win..pure and simple.. so dont let your desire to stand your ground JAM force you away from this forum..becasue you inspire people on here as well, and the forum would be a little less bright without you here. and I sincerly mean that

Tony...so much i signed my real name and not my screen name:D

I enjoyed reading your post, and I know it came from the heart. Very well written, BTW. :)

I too love pulling for the player who shows the most heart, and I'm pulling for you as one of the brightest, most articulate AzBilliards posters that has ever clicked their way to this pool-related forum. It's also a bonus to know that you're an American writer! :D

I keep coming back to something that I asked Ronnie Allen when I first began traveling this American tournament trail, one which was frought with stop signs, hurdles to jump, and a whole lot of unpleasantness! :p

When I asked Ronnie why he wasn't enthusiastic about pool anymore, he told me he had been beaten up by the sport after many dogged years being on the road. Pool has definitely taken on a new direction here in the States since Ronnie's days of lore. Here's an American pool icon that I had grown up hearing so many funny stories. He was a hero in my pool room. Road players would return home from their pool journeys and rave about this one-pocket phenom by the name of Ronnie Allen. Ronnie Allen was a super star in days gone by. Let a pool champion grow old, and the American pool culture, all of a sudden, has selective memory. Which is very illustrative of this damn thread.

Let me it be known that I have always had a deep passion for pool. Even when left the pool scene 'about 20 to 25 years ago to pursue my career, I kept pool in my heart. My best friend, a fellow court reporter, never did understand why I was drawn to pool. She told me that pool was for suckers. Today, there's a ring of truth in that comment for me. :(

I am suffering health problems as I have aged, some maybe a little premature. When my chest begins to hurt and the tears well up in my eyes because of what I am reading, it's time to wake up and smell the coffee. I'm a Starbucks kind of gal myself, and I don't like the flavor of coffee they're serving at AzBilliards Cafe anymore. :p

Thanks for your post, Tony, a true Southern gentleman. Next time I'm in Richmond, I hope you come up and introduce yourself to me.

I have kept my piece in this thread until now. I feel JAM's pain. Her "affair"
with Earl can be compared to a marriage, you have to love the good with the
bad to make it work.

I'm a Filipino slaving my way here in the US, and I am definitely rooting for my
fellow Filipinos, but I wouldn't lose sleep if they lost to an American, A German
or an Arab. I see pool and the beauty of its game, the characters we
encounter, like Earl, Efren and the Buckingham Guards
biglaugh.gif
are just the spices...

GO EARL GO EARL GO EARL!

JAM: I think Americans are more than welcome in the majority of countries in the world, and the Americans can compete at the Eurotour whenever they want... Today there is only one American who compete on the Eurotour, and he is living in London... (Last time a pro player from America joined a eurotour, I think he won twice in a row. Johnny Archer, 5 - 10 years ago)

A Eurotour-tournament attracts more than 200 players each time, last time more than 440 players wanted to play but only 280 players could play because of the tight time-schedule...

Why won't the Americans compete on these tournaments? Is it because the robots and Buckingham guards are too good? ;)

Another thing: I don't get this thing about rooting for someone from your own country. I feel like a citizen of the world, not a Norwegian. I root for players who I enjoy watch playing, no matter who they are playing.

However, I think the main problem with the pro structure in America is the organization, or lack of organization...

Jam Gems!

It is difficult to even respond to such an asinine post

Is this typical of her to do when she doesn't have a leg left to stand on as it pertains to this discussion?

I realized a long time ago that it is difficult to have a productive colloquy with my daughter when she thought only her opinion was right and all others were wrong (Like Mother, like daughter?), and so you and I will part friends at this juncture.

Buddy, if I were to take off on you, I would rip you to shreds on this forum, but quite frankly, you are not worth it, and you'd need more than the 8 to keep up with me. Calling me a xenophobic may make you feel high and mighty, but in reality, the only thing it does is reveal to me that you want to flame.

You are nothing more than an ignorant and uninformed flame-thrower.

American players are the victims, and they are victims from the likes of you and your ignorance.

I can't even respond to such an idiotic statement, but I can assure you that my love of the game is solid because, in fact, I am aware of the American pool scene, probably much more than you.

Oh, and as far as diversity, give me a frigging break. Are you so thick-headed that you don't understand the intent of my posts on this thread?

Yes, you are sorry.

I have more knowledge in my pinky about some topics than you will ever have in your life.

And here is some bad rep she gave me for this post...
Instigating isn't very becoming. You are well named: Inadequate User!

For being such a flamer hater... you light a pretty good fire yourself.

How nice of you to cut-and-paste my responses, but you neglected to cut-and-paste what I was responding to.

I think I'll go join the rest of the American pool players over at PokerStars. I sure as hell see more of them over there than I do on AzBilliards Discussion Forum. I wonder why!

What a shame!!
So thats it..... are we to assume that you are done here? "SELF BANNED"
Honestly, if the last few post were any indication of what we could plan on seeing from here out, then a little time off might not be such a bad thing:(

JAM,

Colin Powell once said:

"Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it."

I value you as a poster to this forum as you provide some of the best insight into pool. But others, including myself, disagreed with your opinion and so we voiced ours. That's the nature of a discussion forum. It's unfortunate that you would let a petty disagreement on a trivial subject lead to your self-inflicted banishment.

It's been a rollercoaster thread but it is extreemly pleasing to see so many members (many American) speak out against such crazy views.

Like many people nowadays I travel a lot, and it seems that Americans reputation abroad has reached an all time low. It's frustrating for me because I really like America and have many friends there. Some of the comments directed at foriegners in this thread and recently on this forum are very sad and only add to the validity of this perception.

It's very sad because of course these views are formed mainly because of the jingoistic views of a few and not the vast majority of Americans.

In my experience these type of views are mainly formed by people that have never left their home nation and don't have a very balanced perspective of the world.

At the end of the day countries are just lines on a man made map...

Ok, this nonsense needs to stop.

America is the most diverse country in the world. Contrary to what some sociologists might say, America is NOT a melting pot. It's a mixed salad bowl. People with mixed ethnicities and nationalities. Not all American pool fans are white. They are every color out there. To say that them rooting for a non-American player, just because they happen to like that player's attitude and skills, is un-patriotic....that is beyond ridiculous. Every American has roots from another country. Many of them were raised to be proud of the country their ancestors came from, and ALSO to be proud to be an American. Again, Americans are all not one race, like in the majority every country excluding the USA.

Jam, up until this point, you were one of my favorite posters. I've lost alot of respect for you. What you are saying is as ludicous as George W. Bush's "If you are not with us, you're against us" policy. I am stunned by your comments. Absoloutely ridiculous. I can't believe that those insane posts were under your name. Bleh.

Well, this has ran its course. I'd say.
"Up until this point.............." I feel the same way, but hey what are you gonna do? Seems way way out of her normal tone. I hope all is well and she will return sooner than later. Let it be known that I, in no way, tried to incite her or push her to leaving the board. I disagreed with something she said and then it got out of hand. I was/am a fan of her and her posts and I dont want it to seem like I was pushing her buttons or anything.

Don't be too harsh on her. I have it from a respectable source that she was partially possessed by Fast Larry. It was a good thing he did not fully possess her or it wouldn't have been so mild for the Robots, Buckingham Guard or camel riders.

Remember Throwing insults at someone who you feel is wrong..makes you twice a wrong!!!

If you feel you have validated your "opinion" dont cheapen it by taking cheap shots!!

Sadly, I have to agree. I think JAM needs a timeout or something like it. :(

I agree with JAM but it extends way past the pool scene. America is going to be a third world country someday how can it not. With all the foreigners pouring into the country and supporting their country at everything and even some Americans jumping on the band wagon. I served my country honorably for 12 yrs including a tour in the sandbox. I am saddened everytime I travel to a pool tounament, I stay at a hotel owned by the same people I was sent to fight against and go the store to buy something and guess what, yes, yet again foreign owned. My point being pool is not the only thing being taken over by foreigners. Americans need to buy American as much as possible and yes support American athletes as much as possible, including pool players.

ps I hope earl does well.

I was also bummed to see Jam get caught up in the yay-yay-USA stuff. I think it's 'robotic' how some people automatically see every competition as us(a) vs. them. It never even occurred to me to root for earl because he's american, the same way it never occurred to me to root for him just because he's white or male. I'm a fan of individuals, not countries.

I hope this isn't too controversial, but I don't think national pride should exist at all. If a person should be proud to be born in certain countries, then logically it follows that they should be ashamed to be born in certain other countries. But we all know that's bs. Earl's country of birth meaningless bit of trivia. It's just a statistic that he had no control over. I think rooting for players based on nationality is like rooting for a guy because he's 6 feet tall. It's not like he had to work hard to become an american. So why does he deserve special credit for it?

I don't wanna ramble too much here but I also think that JAM has confused courtesy and consistency with being robotic. But it's not like there aren't americans like that, and it's not like the face we see on ESPN2 is the only expression some of the europeans have... go look at that video of Thorsten having fun at Amsterdam Billiards and tell me he has no personality. Or go watch Max Eberle in the world 14.1 championships and tell me americans don't occasionally put on a game face and play silently and methodically for hours.

Gee, I wish some of the Europeans who have registered here could jump in, Thorsten for example. I wonder why they seem to have abandoned the forum?
