I was watching a match wherein earl was commentating, and not many do a better job imho, anyway, his question was, "if you televised golf and there were 6 holes on each green, who would watch anyone play?".....:slap::shrug::killingme:
there's only one earl for sure!

That was hysterical. Didn't earl go on to say he would go up against anyone in the world on a table with four pockets and beat them? I've heard him on this rant at turning stone, he then turned to the audience and said "they should lock the doors and not let anyone in, YOU all aren't worthy of watching me"

:rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

Priceless!

It sounds like Earl doesn't really want to play pool just some modified game that caters only to him. Maybe it would be a good idea to have standardized equipment barring all the junk he likes to take to the table. Cues no longer then 60 inches and not other equipment then a cue chalk and a standard bridge. I have a feeling he would not like that.

Making comments like this to our pool spectators is why Earl needs to retire.
Shame on those who demanded he represent our country at the MC last year.
He is a troubled, two-faced, disrespectful person who needs to simply go away.

No matter how "nice" he appears in his old age—I don't buy it. Sorry Earl.

Perhaps Earl never heard this quote

"Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt"

People don't laugh with Earl they laugh at him. At some point he will be finished playing pool and it is sad to think his legacy will be that of an idiot who did and said crazy things.

in the same commentary he said, "if anyone plays me on a 10 ft table with no side pockets they better have the paramedics standing by for them".....;)

Every sport needs its nutcases.

On the Chicago Bulls championship team we had clean-cut hero Michael Jordan.

We also had nutcase Dennis Rodman.

A team of Michael Jordan behave-alikes would have been very boring.

You need both. Europe needs to develop a nutcase: Recommendations?

This is why I've always said there should only be one pocket right in the middle of the table, with a sand trap in front of it.

Now that is a quote!!! I love earl, he is the man! He is definitely misunderstood! Oh well, most geniuses are!

How about a table with one pocket only, right in the middle of the head rail. Break, then run them out in rotation into that hole...

Seriously, they used to make a table with only two pockets for one-hole games. Someone on here just bought/reconditioned one a couple of weeks ago and posted pix.

an argument from a weak player who cannot beat the guy straight up so he has to find another way around. It's weak. I wonder why he didn't say something like :" I beat anyone playing with sunglasses on and with weight pads on both hands"

actually in the commentary booth was not only earl but "upstate" and larry talking about long long ago (pre 1900)one of the first tables had 1 hole in the middle and then they said that in 1901 some table only had 2 holes at one end.......I have not researched this yet (cutting the frigging grass instead :frown:)

you old school guys will never understand the new world. For anything to be popular .. sports , games , movies or tv you need a good guy and a bad guy. Pool is in a terrible state. We need guys like earl that drive people to watch whether they hate him or love him.I can't tell you how many of my friends wives who goto the expo who only are interested in watching the pro's because earl is playing. You know why the dallas cowboys get the highest ratings in the nfl even though they've been a 500 team at best over the last years? Because people love them or hate them. They're either watching hoping they win or watching hoping they lose. Either way they care!! Past earl as good as they are most of them are like wallpaper. you don't hate them or love them. They're guys playing a game. no more no less. The bygone days of guys playing straight pool or one hole and casual fans watching is over.. you want pool to thrive it needs guys like earl to get this generation interested. I'm not saying this joyfully .. I'm saying it as a matter of fact.

oh I already know what some of you will say next because i've read it on here a hounded times.. " i would rather see the game die" Well then that is what it will do. If you can't find a way to get some real money in this game your going to have a hard time getting young people to devote themselves to the game to a level that they can be the best in the world.

many of ya'll seem to forget you're talkin about possibly the greatest pool player of all time

if those people had half an ounce more patience and half an ounce less envy you'd know that all Earl's bs is harmless incoherent babble

I bumped into Earl at Steinway. The way he tried to explain it to me was the side pockets on a 9' table makes it's pretty easy to pocket balls as you're never more than 4 1/2 feet from a pocket. He was trying to emphasize demonstration of cue ball position skill rather than shot making.
