Earl's new cue

Custom Cues Since 1986

Earl is playing with my cue for about the last 5 years, ever since Cue Tech relieved him. He went to Meucci for a few months for pay but came back to mine. Through the years Earl and I have developed a cue that has revived Earl's game in this 4th decade that Earl won major tournaments in (the last was the Steve Mizerak 10 ball championship in Hollywood Florida, November 7th 2010). There were at least 20 or more variations of this cue. We went from 15 ounces to 23 ounces. We tried 16 mm shafts to 12 mm shafts. We went with rear balance to forward balance. We tried a 24 inch no taper to what we have now. Earl tried every tip made several times at my shop. I would put on the tip and he would go up to my Diamond 4 and 1/2 by 9 with 4 inch pockets to try it out. Every time he would come back down to my shop and say no. We pressed every tip and mostly cut off them off. I would estimate several hundred tips over several years were tried. Now he has the cue that gels with his stroke. I must admit that I have never in my 40 years of playing pool seen any one play pool as good as Earl is playing right now. He can do things in competition that all the other pros don't even think of doing. Just watching him has made my game come up several balls in position play. He is the worlds greatest living player.

How long is the cue he is currently using? People were posting it was 63" which is loooong.

Thanks for sharing, Mike.

Neat to see how 'custom' custom really is! Earl is lucky to have you in his corner...as you know, trusting one's sword is worth a couple of balls all day!!

Yikes...just the tip work seems like a ton of effort. I can't imagine how much work goes into balancing a cue like that.

Thx for responding to earlier question in like 20 seconds lol.

You know what, I play with one of Earl's cues and I can personally say it has made my control and ball making better.

Why don't you give us more info on the specs of Earls cue? Weight, length, balance point, tip, joint material, pin type, ferrule material, wood used in the cue, etc. I too heard it was 63" and 23 ounces. Wow. Not a lot of people are gonna copycat those specs !!!

yea right, but one thing is for sure, only I know the combination.

Since Earl has always been too proud to use a jump cue, as far as I know, does the extra length affect his ability to jump at all?

Earl is one of the best jumpers with a jump cue that plays. I have made him a special jump cue that he uses when it is allowed. Does it effect his jumping at 23 ounces, absolutely.

C'mon, whaddya think, someones gonna copy the specs and shoot like Earl? You dangled the carrot in front of us, now damn it, give us a bite.

Besides, there ain't too many combinations of cue materials that over the years hasn't been tried. While his cue is somewhat unique, there's probably been/or is one similar like it out there somewhere. Probably more than one!!!

It ain't exactly Homeland Security or Pentagon papers we're talkin' here. C'mon Mike, give us some more info!

Earl should consider himself very lucky to have a cue maker of your status to work with him to find a cue that works best for him. Many players may play their whole pool playing life with the wrong type of cue and not realize that there's something else out there that would make them a better player. I've never heard of another pro player having the advantage Earl has had with you in getting the right cue to suit his style of play.

When Earl has his mind into playing and isn't distracted I agree 100% with you that "He is the worlds greatest living player" especially in 9 ball.

FYI I have about 8 left for sale for $400.00 with the same tip Earl and I use.

How do I get one? Are they on your website?

I think Earl has more natural talent than any living pool player. Even with his inner demons, no one can argue that watching him play at his best is a sight to be seen.

Mike gave you the length and weight and the price. If I did not build cues myself I would pay the $400 and play with it a while and see if it improves my game or not. Many have spent more than that this year alone trying different tips.

I can say for absolute sure that there has never been one made like this before.
