Early detection/cancer screenings.

As only a few of you were aware, my youngest Sons Mother passed away last Sunday evening from Cancer. She would have been 49 years young this December. We had just celebrated his wedding in August of this year. She was dancing a Mother/Son dance with our boy just 2 months ago, and now we've had to navigate the tragedy of saying goodbye.

I'm not posting this looking for sympathy, and I hesitated before posting this at all. IF there is even the chance that sharing this prompts someone who has questions/doubts to get a cancer screening, it will have been worth the trouble. Please do NOT wait even one second. There are many types of this disease, where time/early detection is of the essence!

Please consult your Physician/Dermatologist, get blood work, etc, if you are even slightly on the fence/concerned. I will post this in both the main forum and NPR.
Thank you sincerely.

Thank you for having the courage to post this J.
Lost my soulmate to breast cancer and regular screening would have saved her life. As it was we waited too long thinking it was something else. Please don't wait.

The local hospital was offering low-dose CT scan and sonogram of your lungs and heart for $59(!), no insurance needed. As a many decades former smoker I jumped on this, an amazing bargain for something healthcare related. Took less than an hour overall and got a consultation and results immediatelty. Thankfully all was well. I hate hospitals and doctors as much as anybody but finding problems before they're symptomatic can save your life. DO IT!
You hate doctors and hospitals? They saved my life...sorry for you.

I've had some rough gastro issues this year and had and endoscopy and colonoscopy. Endo found some stuff that needs to be monitored that if left to smolder long enough doesn't end well. But now I'm in the system with regular screenings and office visits to manage it. Had I not just gone that ONE time, god knows how it would've ended for me.

God gave me and my wife one kid, though we wanted more. My job is to stick around for as long my daughter needs me. So I do it all for her and there's no procedure or prep bad enough for me to skip out on that job.

And since this site is like 99.999% old men - just get the damn colonoscopy!

Go to bed early, get up early. Coffee, fruits, soft boiled eggs, yogurt for breakfast. Lunch at 2:00 pm. Mound of raw vegetables with sardines (kale, shredded red beets, red cabbage, shredded carrots, arugula, spinach, radishes, broccoli, etc), 6 bites of red meat, very small amount of rice and beans. Snack on proteins, but a few days of the week fast until next breakfast. Exercise (men over 40 do deadlifts, squats, rows and pushups) to increase muscle mass and keep posterior chain active. Clean your house every week. And very importantly get plenty of sun, it does more than generate vitamin D. Quit sugar, carbs, alcohol, smoking, staying up late, staying indoors, and activities where you sit.

These things will help prevent cancer and fasting will help coagulate cancer so your body can kill it.

I have had the benefit of early screening for several issues. 14 years ago, after regular prostate screenings, my doctor recommended removal. It was robotically removed early with almost no after effects. I have recommended early screenings to many friends and one now is scheduled for surgery. Without the screening it would have been too late.

I've had two roto rooters so far. The prep is not pleasant.
😵‍💫

I had a cancerous growth in my colon detected during a colonoscopy in 2007. Because of early detection, it had not progressed beyond Stage 2 and its removal was a relatively simple medical matter.

Early detection -- that's the formula.
