Nice looking cue. I like it. I played happily with a Mali for a few years. Can't tell you if the price is fair. It looks near 100% would that be accurate?

My first cue was a Mali and I have always regretted selling it,The cue I bought after I sold it was not half the cue the Mali was

Thanks nksmfamjp, but do to the mark on the butt by the logo and a reconditioned shaft I would give it 95%-98% would be my guess... Do not know what the wood is for the life of me but surely nothing special. Hopefully next week will have a chance to shoot a couple racks and see how she does!!

Just picked this one up.. Not high end by any means but have only seen a handfull of the mid 60's cues. Hit with one years ago and loved the feel of the real old cue, as opposed to even the good playability of the mid 7's cues. Reconditioned shaft and new LePro tip (which will be replaced!) Cannot find any info. on Mali back that far, anyone have any info.?? Did I do ok for $125 or would I have been better of buying a cheaper viking? Thanks as always for anyones input good or bad!!!

The cue pictured is certainly not from the 1960's, in fact I also do not think it is from the early or Middle 1970's, I suspect that the cue is from the 1980's.

I have included an early catalog from the 1970's of Mali cues that were sold by Palmer Custom Cues. Another thing, early Mali cues like the cues pictured in the photo's were not marked with the Mali Name.

Good info .........

Thanks Manwon.. I always enjoy reading your posts and the knowledge I get out of them!! I am confused on the date of the cue then. I have owned Mali's from the mid seventies with the smaller green logos, to the early 80's with the same green logo, and then later 80's if I am not mistaken when they switched to the gold logo.. Is there anyway to find out exactly when and for how long this sideways boxed logo was used? I was under the impression this cue to be from one of the first lines of cues Fred Mali was making a few years after he was working with Cuesport cues in 1965.. So I imagined it wouldn be around 1968-1970. Any more help or insight is greatly appreciated as always!!!!!! Oh and thanks for the Palmer info!! I learned something new today yet again!!!!

I am unsure, but I am certain that the earliest Mali Cues were unmarked. I have seen a number of their early cues, in all types of conditions including new.

If you are looking for more information, I would contact Mali at the link below and provide them with a photo of the cue, I am sure they can date it.

Then please let us know what they say, hope this helps.

Just to throw in on contacting Mali referencing previous cues. Its a NoGo. I contacted them a few months ago trying to get info to make a website showcasing the cues up until 2001 (when Mali outsourced them overseas.). I was told that nobody working there now had any experience with the cues prior to the overseas production.

Needless to say I was disappointed. I really did want to make a one stop, resource type, website that one could research their particular Mali on. There is absolutely no resource like that that I have found on the web.

Heh..anyone have a stack of old Mali catalogs you wouldnt mind me scanning? I'll ship em back...I promise :D

A Wednesday bump for any more ideas!! Had some great input so far, wish I could find some more online literature!!!!

boxed green label

the boxed green label may have been introduced between 77-80.

Bumpage....

Those old Mali's with the flat faced implex joint were good cues. Good shaft wood and usually straight. It probably sold new for around $75-100. You can't beat it for the price. I'd take that cue over a lot of these fancy imports.

nice find

looking at your mali cue took me back a few years . i think i had about
9 or 10 mali cues late 70s - 80s i liked them , they played as good as anything i have now . good solid cue . thanks for shareing
take care johnqbs: anderson sc

Thebigtexan...I think you have your dates mixed up. Cuesport was a company founded by Peter Balner AFTER he sold the Palmer Cue Company, to sell Mali cues (he had invested in Mali at the time). Not sure of the timeline, but it definitely was not in the 60's or 70's. I sold some Mali cues for him (through Cuesport) in the early 90's, before he got out of cues completely.
