Eating right for pool success!

I have been injured and very inactive for just under a year and eating like a pig. No surprise that my pool game has fallen way down. The ability is there but my concentration is all over the place. Well, I decided I was going to get rid of that ugly spare tire around my waist, and since I can't start training just yet, I've started a diet with food substitute in powder form, I believe "slimfast" is a brand in the US?

Anyhow, for the week I have been eating this stuff, my pool and snooker concentration level and results have shot through the roof! The steady supply of calories have done wonders for my mental stamina and aquity! I feel a bit hungry, but it only helps me and it's not distracting at all. Long term this is no solution, of course, but I have found previously that eating just a little less and with slow carbs and quality protein and veggies, my pool game is so much more consistent that even my regular opponents notices!

I believe it is tied to the blood sugar levels, but naturally the health benefits of eating right will also have subtle effects on the entire body. How can you loose?

I've found the worst things to eat, for me, is sugar and heavy food, like lots of red meat, fries and junk food generally. I can still shoot well, but in a long pool playing session I run out of gas eventually. I guess as a result of not being in my 20's anymore, I have to be a bit more careful about what I eat if I intend to perform well.

Another benefit to losing the spare tire is you will not get 'belly hooked' on those shots where you have to stretch over the table ;)

Lots of unpackaged foods...and don't eliminate the red meat and fries, just no more than a couple times a week, ya know? It's what keeps a man a man, man!

The funny thing about that is that you don't need a particularly large belly before this can become a problem. I've never been very fat, but just that little bit of extra flab can make stretching over balls more difficult. Looking forward to easy stretching in the time to come!

I know what you mean.

And I'm on my 1st. refill for blood pressure medication & I'm right below pre-diabetic & right below pre high colesterol.

The ruptured disc has finally started to take it's toll.

I played one pocket for 6 hours a lil over a week ago & I lost the last game that I should have won because I was fairly whipped physically.

I took two Aleve after starting but I should have taken them before but, I was not planning on playing for 6 hours.

Next time I'm taking them when I leave the house.

Good Luck with Your effort & Stay Well,
Rick

Pasta the night before a tourney has a noticeable affect on my stamina and concentration. I have been in an aggressive exercise routine for the last 6 months and eating right. Although I just recently started playing again I cannot vouch for my pool game just yet but I do notice a huge difference in my concentration at work. You are on the right path... It's hard... Keep it up!

Just avoiding processed foods is the kindest thing you can ever do for yourself

Your height x .41 = your ideal waist measurement.

Your ideal waist measurement x 1.7 = your ideal shoulder measurement

Eat what gives you the waist measurement and then workout to give you the shoulder measurement and your game will improve drastically due to the confidence you will receive when *****es can't keep their eyes off of you.

I am on a beer diet. It is what the monks call liquid bread, grain, yeast and water. It has no fat or cholesterol.

I equate everything to a beer. Do I want to eat a donut that is nothing more than fat and sugar or have 2 beers. I enjoy the beer more so I will have the two beers.

A small personal bag of chips has the same amount of calories as a beer. I will take the beer, no fat and more enjoyable.

My diet doesn't consist of just beer but I think you get drift.

I also devised a diet where you can eat as much as you want and as often as you want and it is guaranteed that you will lose weight. It is called the $hit diet. You can eat all you want and I guarantee that you will never gain weight.

All joking aside life is much better when you aren't carrying around all the excess pounds. If you need a example look at Buddy Hall. It is sad to see him struggle like he does playing pool.

That's crazy. Are you talking in inches? I'm 73" tall, based on your formula my waist should be 30". Haven't been that small since 9th grade and i'm 55.

If it's canned, bagged, or boxed don't eat it.

The real numbers are not far off from what I gave. Supposedly the real numbers are height x .45 = waist and waist x 1.618 = shoulders.

The 1.618 number is phi which is suppose to be a golden ratio that comes into play in a number of ways when it comes to beauty.

Here is a video that talks about it.

The Golden ratio is what measurements a guy like Channing Tatum has.

The numbers I gave are stretched but guys like Matt Cook have these measurements.

I am pretty sure both Channing and Matt are doing ok with the ladies.

Where did that ideal waist measurement come from? (I'm not even close and I'm not that fat)

Stay away from processed foods, sugar and any type of soda.

Eat 4-5 smaller meals thoroughout the day - protein (chicken, fish, turkey, beans), carbs (rice, sweet potatoes,) - some good fats (almonds, organic peanut butter), plenty of green and red vegetables. Get about 1g of protein per 1lb of body weight if you're lifting weights - .75 or so if you're not.

60 - 80oz of water a day. If you're looking for something that tastes good, but is actually good for you - look at any of the Quest Protein Bars - high protein, low in sugar and can fit in your backpack or briefcase.

It's amazing how much different you can feel in just a few weeks by getting your diet dialed in - I try and stay strict 6 days a week and then eat whatever I want on Sundays to reward myself.

The theory or science or whatever I mentioned in the second post is real but the first post was extreme and was half joking anyway. But while .41 is impossible for some to get due to wide hips... close to .45 is a good number to try to achieve with a low body fat percentage, good posture, tight core, and no bloating.

Eat fruit, vegetables, beans, seeds, wholewheat and nuts, all in moderation and you you can become successful in anything but getting fat.
