One shaft, with condition issues, no letter... much less than his starting bid. But I am sure someone told him, speaking generally, that Bushkas are 12-15k cues.

If the shaft / or butt is out, this cue's value will fall like the temperature of a polar vortex.

Actually Rambow used dots before Paradise.

Of course he did - he also used the 5/16 - 14 brass pin, put the pin in the
butt, and many other changes that are also well known.

But... Frank was the first to inlay diamonds in a cue - and "invented"
patterns of dots in conjunction with diamonds.

Same question - why does no one ever comment on that?

I suppose, in this thread, it is because the discussion was about domino patterns and then a question on gambler cues. and not notched diamonds with dots.
Obviously, Frank began making cues before George, but what is the oldest example of a Paradise with notched diamonds and dots?

Joe Balsis also had a domino styled cue from George (pretty much like the one in this auction, except the wrap color) dating to the very early 1960s.

Well, I supose this thread is a discussion of inlays in cues and who
did what first and why anyone cares.

My question was, why when people seem to care so much about what
Ernie did or did not do first and/or what George did or did not do first.
no one seems to care that Paradise did it before either of them?

Would you care to answer that question?

That may not really be that true. It is hard to set a price on things like that as long as it is within reason.
They are not bought for resale and usually once a collector buys it it is gone and will never be resold again. At some point they will become nonexistent on the open market. If more then one collector wants it they may pay more for it then they may have originally intended to have it. I just bought a knife off ebay and honestly paid like twice what I really wanted to pay but unfortunately others wanted it also.
 
I'm thinking now that the one owned by the player I knew had a three dot design in the points, also. Definitely had the same pattern and rings in the butt sleeve, though. Mike X bought the cue thinking it was a 'Bushka and then called a few months later and said someone told him it wasn't. He was offered his money back but didn't take it. The original owner always claimed it was genuine, if I remember right.

Inlays were done long before Paradise. So, no, it was not a discussion about inlaying a cue.

But, if Paradise did a gambler cue before George, by all means, show it to us. If he did a domino cue before George, again, please show it to us, with the proper datings.

Here's a cue about 100 years old - with barbells!!! And this guy probably ripped off someone else
(and thank god he did - looks great).

What are you reffering to when you say a "Gambler cue" by Balabushka?

the way I read the ad, the "extra" shaft is from the early 70's (not necessarily the butt and other shaft)

This is a perfect example (if its not a photoshop by you) of a guy copying Ernie 50 years prior to Ernie making cues.

I had a cue like that Gus Szamboti made me in the mid 70's. It had ivory hearts spades diamonds and clubs in the points on it along with dice in the butt sleeve. It was an 8 point cue and I was told by Gus shortly before he died it was one of the most elaborate cues he ever made. It was my original design but he later made others similar. There is even a mention of it in the Billiard Encyclopedia page 336 in the article about Gus Szamboti. There is a picture of a cue with dice in the butt sleeve in the Billiard Encyclopedia but it is not my cue.
