Best deal on Ebay

Helmstetter 86-12 (in 99% condition) and Adam professional cue (some dings and chips in the finish) with cue papers, slicker, chalk and vinyl 2x4 cue case, this all cost me £50 shipped.

I actually bought a Pechauer Pro Series 24 with an extra shaft, and a black Instroke leather 2x4, both new, for $450 shipped. The cue was still wrapped in plastic. I liked the cue, but ended up selling it back on ebay for something like $425. I kept the shaft and the case.

I got a Hercek Hoppe-style cue on ebay for just under what it would cost from Joel if you were at the top of his list at that time. It is the one in my avatar.

There have been several offers for it at a signifcant gain. So far I've remained strong.

A kid in Tx stole a nice bludworth cue from me on e-bay ($350). I got it for a steal from someone trying to raise bail money for their boyfriend, so I got my money out, but just barely. I think part of the reason it sold so low was that I was brand new to e-bay and had no feedback yet.

cheapest you ever sold a cue for huh?

I bought a pretty plain Gus Szamboti off of ebay for 2,000 about two years ago. The guy had terrible pictures and a terrible description. I contacted him and found out that he bought the cue from Dick Abbott and was willing to send the cue to Barry to authenticate it before I had to pay for it.

While Barry had the cue a friend of his came to his shop and offered to buy the cue for $3,500. I decided to keep the cue and now it is worth about 5,000.

I bought a nice Southwest for 1,300, that is worth at least 2,200, the guy had a buy it now price on the cue and I did! It turns out this was the first non production cue he had ever bought and he paid 1,800 for the cue two years earlier and thought if he would only lose 500 he was doing good. It turns out he lives about 40 miles from me and I picked the cue up in person and it was perfect.

A long story and not about pool so stop here if you only want pool cues bought through ebay! You have been warned!

The absolute best deal I ever got on ebay wasn't related to pool though. My wife is a huge figure skating fan and I wanted to suprise her with tickets to see the Olympic long program in Salt Lake City. I checked out ebay and the "A" tickets were 3K a piece for the event. While doing searches there was an Olympic package for a 10K starting bid, the description was something like:

Olympic package, includes tickets to different events, hotel, airfare.

It looked like a scam, didn't mention any of the events, etc. For some reason I contacted them and found out they were a charity in Florida called "Childrens Harbor" and that the package was donated to them and they didn't have any additional information but the purchase was tax deductable. I wasn't going to bid on an auction with no other information, but just before I hung up they offered to give me the number of the guy who was donating the trip. I called the guy and actually only talked to his secretary, he was the CEO of Sensormatic who was doing all of the security for the Olympics. I found out the tickets were all "A" tickets to the events, including Hockey, Skating, etc... The plane tickets were first class, you would be picked up and dropped off from the airport in a Limo, we were staying at a brand new five star hotel they built for the Olympics. They had a 24 hour hospitality suite at the hotel with free food and drinks, they took you to all of the events, gave you lunches, had hospitality suites at every event, etc... To this day it was the best vacation my wife and I have ever had. I won the auction for 10K, we were sitting next to another couple who paid 125K for their tickets at a fund raiser for the Red Cross!

Oh and because it was Sensormatic, they provided us with Winter coat, gloves, hats, etc that were the same as all of the security at the Olympics and we got to go through the special lines for all of the events that were only for Security!

At the hospitality suite we saw all kinds of famous people who were staying at the hotel. My wife was so excited to see Nadia Cominich and Bart Conner and we had our picture taken with them and hung out for quite a while.

Sorry for the long post, I was just trying to point out that if you search and go above and beyond sometimes you do find a great deal on ebay.

A few months ago, I picked up a purpleheart 4 point full splice cue with a black butt, black joint and black wrap, 2 shafts. I was watching it and it was going off for around $60. It had a J or hook in the butt. I figured what the heck, the shafts should be worth that, and put a $75 bid in and won the cue.

Upon receipt and inspection of the cue, I found it to exhibit a high quality of workmanship in the cue, and it was obvious that the J had once been JC. I polished it up and removed the wrap where I found "Jensen 1989". While it was nothing more than a nice sneaky with a wrap and 2 shafts, it was worth much more than $75. I gave it to a friend in Alabama who now owns the pool room that I grew up in. He is a real Jensen cue nut and loves it.

wow.. great buy... i just made a trade deal for a 1990 jensen.. the one i sent to aaron for a refinish because mikes finishes back then blew and were all spider cracked, anyways... i am really looking forward to get it back...

Best deal I have had on Ebay was a McDermott Super Mac case and a McDermott panther cue for $100 shipped. The butt of the cue was in good condition but the shaft was all dinged up. So a few passes with a wet paper towel and a peice of leather, the shaft is ding free. And the Super Mac case is 95% condition. They must have stored the case in a closet somewhere for a few years. :D
