Heres something you dont see everyday. This Laube is all original and has stood the test of time for decades...really nice cue here.

Hi,

In the early 70s I attended Taft High School in Chicago and some of my friends and I started playing pool.

Eddie shop was on Elston Ave not far from our school. A few of my friends bought some cues from him. He was a great guy and he wiuld let us stop by and hang out at his shop occasionally after school and we got to see him on the lathe.

Thanks for posting this nice cue. Brings back a lot of memories for me.:thumbup:

I've always been interested in makers and cues from mid century to the early 70s. The pioneering, expirementing, and artfully ground breaking styles are fascinating. I've hit with Rambow, Bushkas, Szams, Early JW's, etc. and would love to inspect and hit with this. Great cue from the history of cue building standpoint. Pretty rare and an exceptional example. Thank you so much for sharing...you don't see one of these every day. Matt D.
 
In the room I played at in East Detroit in the late 60's and early 70's (same room as Paul Mottey) a Laube was sort of the ultimate in cues with higher end Vikings a close second. A few of the better players in the room had them. In 1970 or 1971 I went with my buddy visit a dealer (Nick, owner of the Carom Club). My friend was able to choose a new one from about 20 or so cues all set on on 2 gold crown tables. The merry widows were $150.00 and the pointed cues were $250.00. By comparison my shooter cost $32.50, a National Tournament rosewood merry widow with nylon wrap. A decent Palmer with points but no veneers was $67.50.

There is a recognizable precision to Laube's work. Back then there wasn't much recognition of squirt in a pool cue. Thanks for posting.
