Efren Bata Reyes and His Pool Cues

i think the $15 cue had a fish skin wrap
it is now in the Glenn collection along with a few more of Eren's cues

If I am not mistaken, the full splice cue or ttleist looking cue
that he played with in Galveston was a Paul Mottey with an ivory joint
that was initially made for me

I didn't play good with ,sold it,took it in trade and loved it,then Dennis Bought it from me

he gave it to Efren and the cue started playing real good. That just shows you how fickle a pool
cue could be .

WOW! Permission to borrow and use these awesome, pictures, please!!!

With regard to that question, here is part 2 of the post.

However, I cannot post the cool pictures of Pat and Fina
due to restrictions on my Photobucket account.

However, they're on my FB page if anyone wishes to view them.

Here is the written post:

Efren Reyes and His Pool Cues - Part 2

.

Friends, it is with a happy heart that I am making this update to the post
I did yesterday - "Efren Reyes and His Pool Cues."

Efren Bata Reyes, aka The Magician, also had a Southwest cue -
A BEM with ebony points (8-10 points). But that isn't what this post is all about. :)

.

For those not in the know, like me who has been away from the game
for like an eternity, the BCA Hall of Famer has been using Diveney Cues
for the past 3 years! Yes, you read it right, friends! For the past 3 years!
And I kid you not!

Though I have yet to bump into Efren, who is currently in Thailand
for a series of commitments, I have confirmed the above from good friends.
AND I have also confirmed it with the custom cue maker himself, Mr. Pat Diveney!

.

My good friend, Pat Diveney, is one of the most respected
and award-winning custom cue makers in the world!
He has developed a great following, not only in his native state of Iowa,
but all over the world! He is one of the coolest guys in my book!
Or in anyone's book, mind you!

I have always called Pat the Custom Cuemaker of Champions.
A couple of notable pool players who use Diveney cues as their weapons of choice
on the green felt are my good friends, Tournament of 14.1 Champion
Lee Vann Corteza and Filipino Invasion's Rodolfo "Boy Samson" Luat.

.
Pat, I am so happy to learn about this and confirm it.
You have always been a straight up guy with everyone.
I will never forget the kindness you have showered me with when you gifted me
that stunningly beautiful curly maple pool cue with lizard wrap
on my birthday (2008)! That was one uber-beautiful cue!

I look forward to having you and Fina again in my beautiful country
- The Pool Capital of the World! Bring Brian and the rest of the family!
I give you my word, it will be tons of fun all over again!

.

I thought he had his own line of cues now. Is he still using a Diveney?

thanks a lot for the info.

I wonder which cue he played with at the 2015 DCC and 2010 DCC

I wonder who made the cues he played with in the below pics.

thanks for your inputs.

during the Efren Reyes Farewell Tour in Germany I had a glance at Efren's equip - this is what I know:

Efren's main player for the last 1-2 years:
-> fairly simple fullsplice sneaky with veneers and white buttcap:

Pat Diveney 2015, with what looks like the original shaft, but tapered down to about 12mm (at least it feels like something around 12.0 mm, when you hold it)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Efren's "spare cue" -> he always carries it along, but rarely played it - I saw it first maybe 2-3 years ago, when he stopped using the EBR-501 but used this instead. But now it's more like Diveney and this one only sometimes. It resembles somehow Efren's cue from the late 80s&early 90s

It's the Efren Legen ELM-01, made by Mezz/Miki/Cosmo/... - it really is exactly the same cue as here (I had it briefly in my hands and couldn't find any difference - same "Efren Bata Reyes" signature on it, too): https://www.ebay.com/i/132501127080?rt=nc

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Break Cue: from what it looks -> Mezz Kai orange wrapless with original DI2 shaft and some kind of worn out rubber grip sleeve

Case: Mezz soft butterfly case in black - looks like the MZ-35K

Efrens "lucky" Diveney cues.

I have a few of Pat's cues and I asked him why the cues he makes Efren shoot better then mine do?

He told me Efren is just "luckier". Efren has been "lucky" for well over 50 years.

When do I start to be "lucky", my time is running out.

I will make a observation, if Efrin flew in to Arizona to play some big tournament, and the airline lost his personal belonging. Then no one would loan him a Cue to play with, he was forced to go to Wally-World, and buy one of their $19.96 specials. Efrin would still play real well.

IMHO it the man skill that has made his a ledgend the, not his Cue.

JMHO

Also any Cuemakes who's Cue Efrin is using, all of a sudden become someone with a long customer waiting list.
