.... there is something about the way he moves the cueball and controls it along with the object balls. It's on another level even if Efren as a complete pool player may no longer be at the height of his powers.

BINGO (IMHO) and it is his play of and dominance in, Balkline Billiards, that provided this skill -- I have heard interviews and been in conversations with him and others with him that he ranks it as his favorite game .. followed by 1 pkt and rotation (depending on who he is playing LOL).
Here is a video of him playing. The fact that the game requires total control of 3 balls demonstrates why (at his best) he was at least a 1 or 2 balls better then anyone playing 1 pkt. Most other players (great players) were very strong controlling 2 balls.. he could do just that little bit more and that sent a lot of players looking for another backer!
