he heard from a poster here on az he could not win so he decided not to come... true story:thumbup:

His name isn't on the list. He reportedly has been having some health problems, not sure what that entails. Last year at Derby City he said his shoulder was bothering him, evidently some arthritis.

Actually, in the most recent DCC during Efren's One Pocket matches, commentator Danny DiLiberto had said outright that Efren's recovering from emphysema, one of the last remnants of Efren's considerable cigarette-smoking legacy. Efren had quit smoking several years ago, but apparently the damage had been done. Indeed, during his televised IPT 8-ball matches (against Mike Sigel and Rodney Morris), as well as the past couple years worth of DCC One Pocket matches, one can hear Efren coughing on the sidelines.

I, for one, wish Efren a speedy recovery, and sincere hopes that we'll see the ol' Magician gracing us with his timeless magic on the pool table soon!

I watched some of those IPT 8-ball matches from 2005 and Efren was coughing a lot during every match. I thought he just had a cold or something like that. I sure hope it's not that serious. I was going to pay for the live streaming video just to see him play live.

I saw Efren about 9 weeks ago. He was ok.
But, I don't know how he handles very cold weather nowadays.
I don't think Efren has much confidence in beating these young guns in 9-ball anymore fwiw.
He does get a free entry being a previous winner but it still cost $1000+ for a plane ticket from the islands.

Maybe it's just me, but Efren seemingly lost a little momentum right before the IPT fiasco and I'm sure those results didnn't help his mindset any either.

What little I saw of him after that, he just seemed to have a different look in his eye. That thogh is just an observation and speculation on my part.

If so, KT had a part in robbing the world of one of the games greatest natural resources.

Again though, this game can have different affects on different induviduals. At times the competitive spirit just wears away or needs a vacation.

IMO, it's not like the man has anything to prove to anyone, least of all, himself. I hope he is well.

I heard or read somewhere that Efren has decided to sit this one out because of a very painful UTI. I'm sure playing long hours of pool is not his idea of a good time right now. I hope all the Emphysema stuff get under control because that stuff is NOT COOL! I had a grandmother that suffered for years from that is it was a horrible existence.

I'm probablly gonna be sorry I asked, but what does UTI stand for? Is it Urinary Tract Infection?
