Efren Reyes fluke 9 ball against Appleton 2012 US Open

For everyone that thinks it was a fluke, if Efren said that's what he was trying, would you believe him? I think it was a semi-fluke. I believe Efren saw the possibility of that shot if he missed the kick bank a little thin. After watching Efren play one pocket, I think he is capable of any exotic shot out there!

That's not the point... The point is if he had to call the shot it wouldn't be a question. The point is its rediculous that the best players in the world are playing texas express rules like there some local bar tournament with a bunch of bangers. To me it's like the best chess players in the world playing checkers.

My post was directed at the people that are positive it was a fluke. Not at you and your rule issues.

I'm glad that you don't have to call the nine in nineball. It gives the weaker shooter like myself a chance to win. I also like it when all the good players shoot each other early in a tournament. Gives me a better chance to get in the money.

I don't agree with playing safe and winning on a three foul rule. That's the worse rule in pool. To win at nineball you should have to make the nine.

This shot will always be remembered because it was a great lucky shot and couldn't have come at a better time.

If only he could of jumped on the table and danced after the win.

Ok, check out Efren lining up the shot with his cue. His left hand points to a spot inside the first diamond. Then it looks like he's picking a spot on the end rail (pointing with his cue). It's really not too farfetched that Efren was playing this shot. Someone needs to ask him about it. I don't think he would have been doing those things if he were trying to kick the 4 in, or kick the 4 into the 9 and into the side. Efren is downright spooky, he just might have been playing this shot.

Well if i ever get the chance to talk with him, i will definitely clear this one for everyone, i have seen post positive and negative comments, but what way to clear this out but to ask him "Efren" what was his real intention. Just give me time to ask him.

If you talk to him...he might say he wanted it that way.

But I can tell you...it was all luck! Set it up 100 times and

he'll never make it again.

Its clear he was playing a kick bank on the 4 with position for the 5. Look at where the cue ball went. The fact that the 4 kicked the 9 in was just pure luck... "I get Lucky" as Efren would say ( His response to the zig zag shot against Earl back in the 80's) Anyone that thinks he was playing the 9 is just crazy..

Thing is, after you've been playing as many years as he has and come to possess the skill that he does, even if you don't consciously think about some possibilities, there's probably a part of your subconscious mind that's considering them. I bet Efren's deep dark depths were mulling over the nine to the side. :)

Luther, Luther, Luther....If he was remotely thinking of the 9 in the side he would have played the 4-9 combo, not some 3 rail kick shot into the 9.........Your review of the shot is totally off the wall........Even the commentator thought he was playing the 4-9 combo direct......

I don't think he was playing the 9 here but he was aware that it could go and played the shot with enough speed to drop the 9 or get safe.

I think we're talking at cross purposes here...

I'm not talking about "him" thinking about the shot. I'm talking about his subconscious mind thinking about the shot. At the risk of sounding like a committed Freudian (which I am not), I'd say that these two things ought to be considered as separate entities.

You know, we're all clearly very different people than we would be if we allowed our subconscious phycho-sexual urges to rule our thinking. In the same way that most of us do not commit rape and murder, most of us would never consider playing the nine to a side pocket in that particular fashion... ...but who knows what strange detourious paths the balls would take if our hidden selves called the shots.

p.s. If you think my posts are getting a bit weird, you're certainly not alone. I'm actually beginning to creep myself out a bit right now.

Seriously still d ebating this??? Efren was totally going for the 9 ball but intended to go 4 rails into the 9 and play it up in the corner past the side. He got lucky making it in the side and won anyway. Congrats to the magician who does things that baffle people buggy with your skill luck confusion. Bravo squire

His main goal was to not leave a shot if he missed. The cueball ended up with a shot on the five, and safe on the four, but that must have been luck too, right?

It seems very likely Efren's number one offensive objective here was to kick bank the four into the corner pocket. But I think it's very likely that Efren also took note of where the four would go if he missed slightly, and he saw the shot that happened, as another possibility.

I'm not raining on your parade,,and don't know if he was trying the shot or not. But I'm not so sure about not being able to do it again.

Take a look at this video from a snooker game. The guy tries this shot 3 times and it's a crazy roll,,,but does it exactly 3 times in a row.

You hit it on the nose

You hit it on the nose.Efren deserves anything he gets!!

Given the speed he shot at I'd guess he was shooting the one rail kick to the side, but more importantly, I also think he was playing CB position for a safety, sending whitey up table behind all those balls.

I also think the thing to remember about Efren is that there's probably not a mean bone in his body and what you saw was an almost childlike exuberance when, one of those crazy things we've all seen happen on a pool table, happened. That it happened hill-hill, on the Accu-Stats table, at the US Open, against a great opponent was just icing on the cake. There is not a one of us who wouldn't have gone a little nuts in the same situation.

You'd have to be a fool to think he was trying that shot.

I have no parade to rain on.:speechless:
