Efren Reyes owned a Predator cue?

The magician's effect on the price of cue is getting more and more spectacular it seems.

Here is one example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1292&item=7159501656&rd=1

Unfortunately, some information in this listing are wrong
- the cue in the picture is not a predator as the description seems to suggest
- the date of the tournament where that picture is taken is wrong. it is not
2002
- the location mentioned there is also wrong

Still a lot of people are interested and willing to pay the premium price, as long as the cue is 'made for Efren Reyes' as suggested. Although the facts mentioned there, to suggest that Efren indeed used the cue, are not true.

Pointed this out to the auction owner, but get only a silence.

I believe you, however, I don't think anyone is buying it because he used it in a tournament. They are buying it because of it's history, that it was made for Efren and rejected. If it were really his personal playing cue, documented as this one is, it would be going for thousands more.

I admire Efren for returning the cue to Predator. That says a lot about him. I am sure many players would have sold it without a second thought.

I wont argue a lot about your opinion that those who bid are buying the cue because it was made for Efren.

It seems that they have no proof to support that the cue is indeed built for Efren and that Efren actually brought it with him to Japan.
It is unfortunate though that the seller have to use misleading (supposedly supporting) information to fortify his claim.

Actually, when asked, the seller tried to answer that the cue in that picture is actually the predator that he is selling. So we know his motive behind the use of the photo and the information about the tournament in Japan.

For the life of me, I have both video tapes, the tournament from which that picture was taken, which is a different year. I also have the tape of 2002 Tokyo 9-Ball and the cue that Efren uses in that tournament is not a predator.

I have also bought several cues from ebay, and the best source of information there is the description and the photos. It is wrong to use false information there, even though those information is not the main point.

That cue was never used by Efren as far as I know.
It is obvious the price of that cue has gone up due to the claim that it was made for Efren.
Jeesh, I wonder how much this cue is worth now.
Efren played with this cue for a short while. I bought it off him.
Not that I want to sell it.

You're right it wasn't. The first of such model that was given to hm was short, 58", for him and was given to Marlon Manalo who is currently using it. The second one was longer and he asked me to make a shaft fr it as he didn't like spliced shafts. I begged off after showing him that the A-joint is warped and if he wishes to proceed I will need to replace the handle to realign the cue. He then said that he'll just return the cue. This was just last year and a few days after he started using his ER.

I hear he's using a Judd now with a sniper tip?

Marlon was just in Los Angeles and I did recognize he was using that same cue they were selling on E-Bay. I figured they gave Manolo one too. I couldn't tell if Manolo was using a Predator shaft.

Yes he does use a Judd but not sure about the Sniper. He only used the ER in last years Hope 1M and the World Pool Masters.

Manalo got the cue from Efren as a gift before the last WPC-Cardiff as told me by Marlon while in Cardiff. Marlon does use Pred shafts.

What is the taper of the ER cue you made for him ? So you made him a select highest grade maple instead of laminated shaft?

I am under the impression that he uses 12mm or less taper. From looking at the videos, the shaft look thin. That predator is 12.6mm.

I'm sorry but I prefer not to divulge that info. I'm in the impression that he just used the cue to increase his bargaining power in an endorsement deal. It was good enough for him to use in a couple of major tournaments but....management has the last say.

Who makes that cue? Looks like a Gina design.

Does Efren still have the cue? Is it with him as an extra or spare playing cue? ;)

No worries at all. Just curious. I can find Efren's preferred taper from another maker, whom I ordered a cue from. He can make the taper the same as Efren's if I want one.

You sure you want Efren's taper?
He likes it thin and long. Better find a real hard maple to copy his taper.
It'll be whippy.

I already have a cue which I think has similar taper. One is 12mm, another thinner. Real hard maple and good ones for that matter. They are still straight after almost 15 years. I played with them for a while. Not so whippy, the hit sound is also good and the power is still there. And minimum deflection.
Puts more spin on the cue ball but requires more accuracy in the stroke and better control.

I actually did not choose to have a taper similar to Efren's.
