I would ask him "If you were the person trying to manage the future of American pool, what would you do to get more young people playing the game?"

I would be interested in knowing if he has plans to use this "influence and power" to work with charity to somehow help poor people in the Philippines getting food on the table every day, education, proper medical help etc.

He does....his relatives.....he has hundreds of relatives!

My questions

1) Dentists name and nationality
2) Favorite opening move in chess
3) Did he ever run into trouble when he was hustling as a mexican

I would ask him after all these years of winning tournaments and mega money games did he save enough money to live the good life after he retires. Johnnyt's hoping he has enough to last the rest of his life. I have just seen too many pool players that won big money over their time in pool die broke. Not only pool, boxing, baseball, and almost every other sport you can name, a lot of them die broke...what a shame. Johnnyt

I had the opportunity to meet Efren and ask him a couple of questions once, and two in particular have always stuck with me. The first one was when I asked him how he felt about deflection. How he adjusts for it? does he like a shaft with minimal deflection? Normal deflection..................ect. And his reply was "What is deflection?"
The second was "What's going through your mind when you are towards the end of an out (last 3-4 balls) to win a match or title? And his reply was that when he's really in the zone and he's down to the last couple of balls on the table, instead of picking that one spot on the table where he wants to place his CB, he says that sometimes he'll actually reverse the train of thought, and concentrate on the only spots on the table to avoid leaving the CB. "When you only have 3 balls left on the table (7,8,9) there is really only two spots on the whole table that you don't want to place your CB, and that would be behind the 8 or 9." "That way, you have more margin to work with." I think he was half joking, but to some degree, the wisdom of that particular statement is easy to under estimate.

I'd ask him when he's going to run (and win) for President of the Philippines.

We asked him the same question when we met him at DCC and he said politics never interest him because he loves his peaceful life.He also mentioned that some politician offered him a Honda CRV when he wanted to buy one but he refused to take it..he want to spend his own money instead..

Personally I would have tons of questions for him but he would probably get bored and falls asleep on me. So, I would make it short and sweet.

a) What are his practice routines, pattern plays, shot selections in a certain situation of a match.

b) Mental aspects of the game. How he handles himself in a high stake gambling or a final in world championship match. How does he prepare himself before a match.

c) How did he managed to stay on top for over 2 decades.

d) Who was the legendary boy bicol?? How much spot did he give him back in the day when he was a teenager?

I would love to know how he processes his shots. Everything from aiming, leave planning, approach to the table. . .and most importantly, when setting up for a 3 rail kick safe through a bunch of balls where the cue and object ball need a precise hit, how does he mentally stay in the shot. Sure, I can see that shot, but how does he avoid doubt when lining up one of those stupid impossible shots!

My MY!

AZ Billiards is on a tear.

I am impressed that you guys and (girls?) continue to ask unique original questions (except for Da Fish until I put him on the spot).

I thank you for your valuable contributions.

If you have any more, I would love to hear them.

In all of his travels, Is there a pool room he favors above the rest if so why? Granted this may put him on the spot.

I have been thinking for some time now that if I had Efren in the right situation, I might ask him some different questions.

If you had 5 minutes and 5 minutes only, with Efren Reyes and you could ask him anything you wanted to ask him, what would it be?

I would appreciate your thoughts on this. It could be on a specific shot, his family, aiming, shooting, banking, kicking or not even about pool.

One of my questions would be concerning what he is thinking about when he is looking at a SPECIFIC, AND difficult shot. (Is he relying entirely on past experience, the diamond system, or is he using a personal system that works for him, if so, which one and how does it work for him?)
Thanks,

JoeyA

Question for Efren...

I would like to ask Efren if there is a certain rule that he would like to have adjusted or changed or removed...

For instance, I have never liked it when a player has to bridge over a ball and then disturbes that ball and it is not a foul...the player has changed the lay of the table and is not penalized at all from my experiences...

Sure would like to know Efrens views on some rules...

I'd bet the house his answer would be to disallow the use of jump cues!

Still, for me, the single worst rule in all of pool is that in one pocket, if opponent pockets one of your balls, you don't get to keep it if they also foul. It's a silly rule than unnecessarily lengthens games.

Like you, I'd love to hear Efren talk on the subject of rules. Great post!

Beef up the server!

What IF somebody with lots of influence here, say like Mike H. (AzHousePro) :) could arrange a Johnny Archer-like AZB chat with Efren and the AZB members??? If we could put men on the moon 40 years ago, then I don't see why Efren Reyes could not be persuaded to join us for a couple of hours or so.

In fact, why not have a weekly chat with a different pro each week, maybe on the same day and time each week so we could all make plans in advance to be available during that time slot?

I would think they would enjoy being in the lime-light and the fans would enjoy getting to know what makes these guys tick. Personally, I would love to see some of the past champions such as Dallas West, Nick Varner, Ray Martin, etc be interviewed. Ask them what they thought of certain players, who do they rank as the best, what are they most proud of, etc. Along with the likes of the modern players such as Shannon Daulton, Oliver Ortmann or Shane VanBoening, all these could be really fascinatingly insightful.

Not wanting to risk warding them off by volunteering them for an appearance in the chat room, but how great would it be if we could interview Billy Incardona, Grady, John Schmidt and Freddy Bentivegna, our regular faithful contributors here? I know I got a couple hundred questions myself for them!

That's a great question Barbara! I would be curious about that as well. I wonder if if the pool hall will have anything with him making a big score.
