Yep, I wanna be like Efren when I grow up.

Allen Hopkins played Efren's level, just a different style. Nick Varner is also a formidable opponent for Efren - this is nothing new to Efren, he's known it for years. Buddy Hall has also beaten Efren several times in major one pocket tournaments.

This is nothing against Efren, he probably is the best of all time......just keep in mind there were several players that he wouldn't/couldn't spot one ball.

OMG. Allen Hopkins did not ever play Efrens top level.. Or Bustamantes level.. IMO atleast

Why don't you name a couple that he couldn't have given a ball to.

When Cliff was the best in the U.S. and nobody could touch him, Efren spotted him.

To this day either one of them can run 200 balls.....that's pretty good

Efren's incredible one pocket game was developed from playing "One Rail Billiards," and "Straight Rail Billiards.....not pool, although rotation is the game of choice in the Philippines, which has NO "one foul" rule and is a very strategic and complex game.

Hopkins and Sigel could have kept up a world class level, there was no reason to in the United States. To this day either one of them can run 200 balls.....that's pretty good for senior citizens that rarely compete.

Also, fyi, Efren can't give Nick Varner 8/7 and Nick's older than Efren.

The difference is Efren in 60 and still a world class player who a lot of today's younger players won't play without weight. The only comparable guy I can think of is Irving Crane in terms of being able to stay at the highest level for so long.

Even back in the Billiard Palace you were holding your own

I think you can handle yourself with these "sharks," Dean. Even back in the Billiard Palace you were holding your own, and that was over 20 years ago.

Play Well, I'll see you at CK's one of these days bud, - Happy Holidays.

It is always good to hear from CJ,sometimes a really great player
can understand everything about the game including the relative
abilities of the players better than someone like me who loves the game
but posses little understanding of the inner workings

thanks to CJ for his insights, you may have kept me from losing
again

dean

CJ really knows his pool, his pool players, their relative abilities,
and has a lot of class

So why do I get nervous when he compliments an old non player like me?
I'll tell you why.

I am afraid he might offer me the nuts, and it might only
resemble the nuts until I find out the hard way.

It has happened to me before!
That's why.

I still would bet on Efren if he gives nick 8 to7.

Sometimes I can not help myself

I believe if one wants to be called the BEST one pocket player today
then they need to step up and give Efren a ball and win.

kids

for years, i have been reading posts re: efren. and there are many of them.

however, i don't think i've ever heard if he's married or if he has any kids.

i wonder if his kids shoot. will there be a legacy?

there are so many other athletes that have followed in their father's/mother's shoes.

Efren is married and has kids , has a pool bar in Angeles City
Kids following in parents footsteps have extremely low success rate
Don't recall any major success -Cruyff's son wasn't great, Ali's daughter was passable , John Houston's daughter was pretty good, Lennon's sons didn't stand out, Elvis daughter was washout

Oh maybe the Gracies of MMA- they are probably one of most successful families

Archie Manning's sons...........

mathews family in nfl; steph curry and his dad, griffeys; molina's in baseball; ripkens; cecil/prince fielder, barry/bobby bonds;

and that's just thinking about it for less than minute

he has a kid who plays really good, but not as good as the master himself.
efren once said, (translated) "my son is really good - really good at losing."
