Efren Shoots a 1.000

That's some good shooting. I love the draw on the first 8 ball. Seems like whenever I try to do that, I scratch in the LH corner pocket.

How does the TPA system work, anyways. I expected that Efren had broke and run out the set, but that was not the case. Are breaks not included then? Only makeable shots?

The system is fairly complex and I'm no expert but Accu-stats has information on its site.

Uhgly stroke, i somewhat copied his stroke and its great but you must be one with it as you can miscue if not one with it LOL. I just love the style of it though. I dont' know how many times i watched this clip before the main shot i love is the extreme kill shot on the two ball, its all about the stroke baby.

There are a few things that you must do to shoot a perfect match. Some of them might not even come up during the match if you are playing that well.

You must make legal contact with every ball you kick at. (kicking errors)

You can't hook yourself. (position errors)

A person can't pocket a ball after you play safe. (safety errors)

You cannot miss a shot you attempt to make. (shots missed)

You can't foul. (fouls)

I think there are a few more guidlines, but I can't remember them right now. In this particular match. Jimmy Wetch had a kick shot at the beginning of the first game of the set and sold out, and then Efren ran a 5 pack. After that Jimmy had one more kick shot, and a botched safety when Efren broke dry and didn't leave him anything on the 1ball.

The strangest thing about Efren, is I have seen him play soooooo many times, and the WORST I've ever seen him play in a match, is .860 IIRC. Supposedly he averages around .900 for most of his matches played!

The three most incredible performances I've ever seen him play, are the 2006 Derby City 1pocket Semi Finals AND Finals, his match with Bustamante in the year Efren won the WPC (Efren runs an 8 pack, makes 1 error in a race to 11, which is just a few points below 1.000), and a match in the late 80's with Nick Varner, when Nick was winning EVERYTHING. Efren took total control of the match, didn't leave Nick a breath of fresh air at all, except when he broke dry. He drilled Nick like 13-3 or something like that, and only made 1 kicking error in the entire match. Nick made some incredible kick shots right back at Efren, but Efren would pull off an even better one! Imagine playing a race to 13 and sitting in your chair almost the entire match!

What about during the Enjoy Pool Event where Allen Hopkins had a 10-0 lead on Efren with a race to 11 and Efren came back and won 11-10.

> In addition to not hooking yourself, which is a position error as Saurus noted, you can also be tagged for a position error by simply getting out of line and leaving yourself anything deemed to be more difficult than a standard spot shot. If you do and miss, not only does it count as a miss but also a position error.

The way Pat explained it to me,you can run 11 racks under their system, and NOT shoot 1.000,but you can also have 11 racks run on you, with you only getting to shoot once, running the whole rack or just making the only ball you shot at,and shoot 1.000.

Another area that needs clarification is safety errors. You are not tagged for a safety if your opponent kicks a ball in,jumps or masse's a ball in off a safety,it only counts as an error if you play safe and leave the whole ball open and makeable.

Under Pat's killer system, anything over .850 is considered world-class,but it's long been accepted that you won't win many tournaments at that level with anything under a .900. That works out to about 3 unforced errors in a race to 11,along with other errors forced on you by your opponent, such as missing kicks,or kicking and making a hit but scratching,,missing safeties, etc. Tommy D.

Are you completely sure about that? Because there are many times with just the 9 on the table and obviously you can't hide behind anything, you just leave them a really tough bank. I forget which commentators, but in a few of the videos they said that a player cannot pocket a ball after you play safe, and a position error is when you hook yourself, because sometimes players play position for safeties, and the position they played doesnt give them a shot to any pocket.

To shoot a 1.000 you just have to play perfect 9 ball. I think it was done once before by Wade Crane. They say Buddy used to do that a lot. :D

Parica did it at the last Legends of 9-Ball against Tony Ellin.
11-1 was the final score. Jose did not miss one ball or position for that matter.
Parica was so in dead punch during this tournament he blew away Rodney Morris and Efren in the semi and final.
Jose was unconscious that year. He became the POY that year.
The next year, he forgot how to play pool. Did not get in the money once at the Camel Tour. Busta then took over that year. I saw Bustamante miss 2 balls on one Sunday afternoon at the Riviera against Coltrain, Wetch and Archer.
On a tight Diamond table. Absolutely the best shooting display I ever saw.
Busta ran out from everywhere. Even banked a ball shooting from behind his back.

and also the famous match

I would include Efren's amazing comeback from 17 racks down to Earl in the famous "Color of Money" match (I believe Earl was ahead 104-87 in the race to 120), and Earl played some real dominating 9-ball during that 2-day session; I consider that match to be a real-life battle of the Titans, and one of the greatest displays of 9-ball pool shooting in history....

Oh yeah how can I forget that one! That was probably the BEST 9ball I have ever seen played! The last day of TCOM, where Efren breaks and runs like 20 out of 30 racks, it was incredible! Efren was smashing the balls so hard....he must have been hitting them around the 30mph....and people say he has a weak break, lol....he made some of the most incredible outs I've ever seen.

Didn't Earl shoot a thousand when he ran 11 racks for the million?

I have this match on DVD. I believe the match that he played just before this one was against Mika and he played nearly as well. He made a mistake or two near the end but he put on a clinic in that match too. He ultimately went on to lose to Ralph Souquet in the finals after that match with Jimmy Wetch.

Not true! in their last US Open meeting Efren shot a .831 to Earl's .977. Earl won that match 11-5. It is on Accu-stats. And it get worse...In 1997, in which Earl beat Efren 11-3 in the US Open finals, Efren shoot something like .700..Also on Accu-stats

It's not true that from all the matches of Efren I'VE SEEN, his lowest was .860???.........hmmm......oh I get it, you have been secretly keeping track of all the matches I've watched with spy equipment, and you found one match that I slipped up! Great Job! :D
