Hello everyone,
I havent been around much lately but i would assume most on here probably remember me. Its good to be back on AZB again. I am starting to get the fever to play some pool again. My dad passed in a house fire this past March and dealing with his loss, the contractors to rebuild his house, the insurance company, etc, its taken my mind off the sport for awhile.

Anyway, last i recall Efren was having problems with his eyes and was even perhaps considering retirement? I noticed in Billiards Digest tonight that he finished fourth at the U.S. Open.

Did he have Lasik done, or did his eyesight just get better? Whats up with Efren doing so well when i thought i remembered he was perhaps going to hang it up.

efren

I do not know the exact story but I do know I was watching efren and francisco playing at hard times billiards Sacramento dated back about 3 months ago-match date. A few times unfortunately some camera flashes were going off. The commentator mentioned that the flashes were bad for Efrens eyes because he had just gotten eye surgery(he might of even said laser)done so they would be sensitive, especially being in a dark pool room. Looked like he was playing just about up to par to me...

My condolences

Sounds like you have had a lot to deal with...welcome back.

re Efren-I thot he had lasik surgery several years ago. Maybe again more recently??

take care

efren

to clarify it was a video i was watching and I assumed it was that recent because when i arrived in town francisco and efren had just left...

Welcome back DCP... sorry to hear about your dad.

Efren got Lasik around June of 2006 - that's based on this old BD article from that time, where the author mentions efren getting it "the day before".

As for why he's doing better... well, basically the difference between the greats and the other pros is consistency. Efren's not consistently great anymore, but that doesn't mean he's consistently bad either. He'll have a good finish now and then.

Yeah I get kinda tickled when people talk about Efren, he's had eye surgery, is about 58 years old, and has some other health issues from time to time. And when I went to the Derby in 2010 I heard people talking about him being there but he was 'over the hill' and then he won the 9-ball and finished high enough in the banks and one-pocket to win the over-all and also won the 10-ball challenge. Don't we all wish we were that far 'over the hill'.
