Efren's famous shot animated

Yeah, I pulled the link from that article so people here could open up the animation directly.

God knows how I found it  Searching for porn I guess :p

Did you find the porn? Thank god for porn and online casinos or nobody would be making money on the internet.

That's why they call him the Magician, it sounds like one hell of a final...I'll have to order the Accu-stats video.

I remember seeing the shot from a taped match that Efren played in. My memory isn't that good but I remember much of what you wanted to know.

Efren took FOREVER to shoot this shot. There were many obstacles to the layout. I believe it was the FIVE BALL that he was kicking at and he hit it very similar to the shot that Colin provided us the link for. Efren stood there looking at the table looking, looking and you wondered WTF, no one takes that long to study a shot. I kind of remember him standing in one place for most of the time and just kind of meditating or VISUALIZING THE SHOT for a long period of time. I'm betting that he was visualizing the shot over and over in his mind and that what took so long.

It was one of the greatest shots I have ever seen. The second greatest shot I have ever seen was also by Efren, playing one pocket against Larry Nevel in the 2000 U.S. Open One Pocket Championship finals.

I'd like to know how long he studied the table before shooting?

Did he use his cue, etc. to line up the shot?

Or did he just walk up and whack it?

Well .... what was it?

A guy from Longoni described an Efren 1p shot that I thought really showed his brillance. He and his opponent both had 7 balls, the last pocket was more or less hung by his opponents pocket, the cueball was hooked in Efren's pocket. Efren thought for a while and then rolled the cueball out to the footspot commiting a foul, one of his balls was pulled out and placed behind the footspot which was occupied by the cueball. The cueball was then hooked behind an object ball. Efren ultimately went on to win.

The shot heard around the world and the shot vs. Clif were both diagramed using the WEI table by someone who was there.

I would give credit to the person, but I can't find the thread it was in. The thread was the one Marissa started last week which contained the article written about Efrin during one of the DCC's.

Maybe someone can fill us in on the details leading up to that shot and the consequences.

It was the hill-hill game and the shot was on the five ball, not the eight ball. Efren played a safety and accidentally caromed an object ball in, hooking himself. He studied the table for maybe half a minute and then played that shot. He said during the post-game interview he needed some luck to get that shot in. The tape is still available from Accu-Stats and it's the Sands XXI finals.

Another Accu-Stats tape that has Efren making a somewhat similar kick shot on it is the Masters 2001 finals. If I remember correctly in that match he played a three rail kick shot and pocketed the one ball.

Also, check out the semi's from the 2001 Masters tournament between Souquet and Reyes, it's one of the best played 9-ball matches I've seen.

I think that thread was

but it appears to have disappeared. who stole it? perhaps Mike removed it because of copyright issues. or maybe i'm wrong about the link, but i don't think so.

As I recall it was one of the few times you'll see Earl actually gracious in defeatand he actually said on the tape he felt like he was in trouble because someone else had made the same shot on him years earlier. I believe he said it was Kieth it's been a while since I saw the tape

Yes, I believe Earl did mention Keith's name at some point during the post game interview. If memory serves, Earl said Keith had done a similar shot some years prior.

I remember Earl saying on that tape that he thought that Efren's coming with that shot in that situation was so amazing that it was better the match ended the way it did than if he had won the tournament himself. Imagine saying that after a lucky shot just cost you several thousand! But it sounded sincere.

Efren left himself a shot on the 5 ball similar to this could see a full ball but not enough to cut it in, playing a safe he banked the 5 2 rails pocketing the 8 ball by mistake. With Earl thanking the pool gods Efren criss crosses the table making the 5 with perfect position. Somebody mentioned Efren going into the stands but they both were I think maybe it was talc they were going up there for.

If this was the shot against Earl Strickland in the Reno finals, Efren was hooked on the 5 ball. The interactive shot is correct as far as the rail(s) & angles but it was the 5 ball. He still had 3 or 4 balls left on the table & ran to the 9-ball where Earl conceded the shot in a display of good sportsmanship, I happened to have a ringside seat that day & it was an absolute fantastice shot given the circumstances. It was case game & Efren had actually tried to snooker Earl & in the process accidentally made a ball leaving himself hooked on the 5 ball. And correct, the crowd went absolutely nuts!!

i have the entire match in avi format. i am on dialup, but if you must get a copy of this match, pm me.

it is the sands regency 1995 finals.

As I recall, Earl saluted the pool gods for making Efren's safety pocket a ball. Then Efren made that shot.
As I remember it, he did line up the shot. And after he made it, Earl gave him a standing ovation, as did the rest of the audience...for about 3 minutes, and I mean screaming ovation. The most amazing part of the story is that is was hill-hill in a race to 13!!! It was truly the greatest shot in history!
