Efren's "retirement"

I watched the Efren vs Pagulayan match yesterday and Efren won while playing world class pool. It reminded me of Babe Ruth who played his final season with the Boston Braves after being released by the Yankees. In the only series Ruth played as a Brave at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field he became one of only 10 players in the history of the ballpark to hit a home run over the roof in right field. The Pirates pitcher said he didn't think anybody could hit a ball that far. It was Ruth's final home run. A week later he retired.

Efren is still a world class player. If he does retire from international competition I'll miss watching him play but I understand the finances and living out of a hotel room are factors in his decision.
 
I've yet to hear anything directly from Efren's mouth that he is retiring this trip. I believe it is a marketing ploy by the Americans who are streaming him to attract more attention. Frost did the same thing with his match with Efren. Now, a year or two later, and Efren is still as active as ever. IMO of course;)
 
Efren is no longer as competent as he used to be on long shots. 7-foot tables (as in this current event) present fewer long shots.
 
Retiring is the new hustle....everybody relaxes....
....then you kick their ass....

Efren on a bar box....doesn’t seem fair to the bar box...:eek:
 
Folks line up to play Efren and lose in poolrooms across the US. They do it because they want to say they played him.

It’s a sign of how much the pool world respects him.

He was giving some pretty high level players 10 to 6,
I don't think that was giving money away.
Of course , he still won most of the matches but he earned it ,count on that.
