Emotional Story from League Last Night

Was a cool story until the part where the father and son "split". They couldn't agree to play 1 game for the championship? Even though it was late and they had to get up the next day? Of course they knew when they played they would have to get up for work and if they played for the championship it would be late. Obviously the money was more important to them than your gesture. Nice idea, but thumbs down on daddy and son. They should have had respect for what you did and played out the match, even a shortened one.

Bob

I don't think the money was more important than my gesture. I talked with both of them yesterday and they really appreciated being able to play against each other in the finals. And that is what the whole thing is about. The money doesn't matter that much in the long run. *waiting for the action guys to jump on me now* :)

I actually just got a message from the son and dad got out to a 3-0 lead but they ended up spliting. It was midnight and they both had to get up for work the next day. They split 40 a piece.

And to respond to the whiffer, this isn't a serious competition league and most of hte people don't think like that. It is like a beer softball league atmosphere. Frand, the dad, was very greatful for the opportunity. From what Darren told me, Frank is going to call me today. Since I know these guys, I my guess would be to thank me for allowing that to happen last night.

Nice gesture overall but kind of crappy in the end. They get to play each other in the finals, and don't even play it out. 3-0 in a race to 5 doesn't seem like something that's going to take that long to get done. I have never personally been in favor of splitting pots. I don't go to tournaments that I can't finish time wise. to each their own though. Hopefully they felt the value in what you did.

You showed humanity in a cut-throat sport. Kudos to you & zerberts to the detractors.

I was betting a hundred on you to win and you dumped me into the river. j/k

As long as no one else minded then i don't see a problem. You took a forfeit. Not like you dogged the whole match. A good gesture. Do you play poker? It'd be nice to see you sitting across from me and my "son" in the finals lol j/k

We hear a lot of things that are wrong with pool, that nice gesture my friend, is something that is right with pool.

I am with the majority and it wouldn't make any difference how much the purse was.

Father and son have a good story to share about how they ended up playing for the championship in the local tournament.

To those they relate the story to it might sound like the us open - if they chosen they might even tell the rest of the story and use it in a positive fashion.

No matter in the end you did a good thing if more people had an attitude like yours maybe the federal government wouldn't have been shut down all week.

It's just too much to expect our elected leaders to have as much integrity as the average pool player I guess!

Well, maybe a few don't get it at all, to bad. All I can say is that this was a class act move in a forum that hurt no one and rewarded many, including the respect of the op from his local area. For many of us who never shared many moments with their father at all, the situation is priceless. The wonderful times I've shared with team mates when hoisting state championship trophies is wonderful memories, but, just once, it would have been awesome to have dad there, let alone shoot against each other. The spirt in this situation and grasping the moment of it's rare opportunity was of the highest of standard that goes way beyond a game of pool, ....... the game of life. Class Act All The Way.
