I just picked up this neat case Friday and I would like to know more about the history and value. I know it is an Engles case and is leather with an elephant print. I don't know much more than that though other than they look and feel like a quality case.

Educate me or point me in the right direction for more information on this case please!

Not sure if you have seen this link to a forum members site. Tate

I have owned a couple engles and they are my favorite of the 1x2 style. In my experience they seem to have slightly better seams than the Fellinis and they still use the old Fellini latches. Sam also used 2 different size tubes, one is slightly smaller in diameter. From the pictures, I believe yours is the larger.

as a note, John Bartons GTF 1x2 are far better in all regards IMO. They only thing holding them back is they use a different style latch. To me, the fellini latch is a must have on these cases.

Here is another link. Lots of engles and they have a white Elephant for 650$

Thanks for the two helpful links. Mine does resemble the white elephant case. I wonder if he made the same case in leather with that print? It would be sweet if mine were genuine elephant.

Yours looks to be genuine elephant. Great case you have there.

That is just fantastic! This stuff never happens to me. Now I have to decide if I am going to use it or just clean it up and hold onto it for a while.

My original plan was to store my Tascarella in it and bring it out on one pocket nights so I don't have to lug around my 4/8 JB case. Now, I am not so sure that is what I want to do anymore.

Brian,
I agree. Looks to be real elephant. If I remember right, some of these cases resurfaced a little while back and some say that they were just built. Not sure though, but your tag looks to be pretty new. Either way it's a great case and congrats on the pick up.

Thanks guys, I am amazed at the information and experts found on this site.

I am still pretty jazzed about this case. Now, what to do with it? Use it? Don't use it?

That is genuine elephant, not a print.

I have one of those cases. That color is a nightmare to keep clean! You can see mine is very clean, perfect really...because I keep it in a cloth sleeve. It will pick up your hand oils and anything else it touches.

The black cases are cool, but it will get harder and harder to find one of these in really clean shape.

Mine holds my Dayton ivory inlaid cue by the way.

Excellent case. Great info on the Palmercollector site. I don't think I can add to that.

I believe JB has some case history on his site but I can't find it right now.

My case collection has grown somewhat since this pic, I need to get new pics.

I would absolutely use it. Its a very well built, high quality case, with expensive leather, hence the nice value. With that said, I wouldn't put in the "rare as hens teeth" category as they come available from time to time. I say clean it up and use it.

IMHO it is best for storage.

If you carry a cue around in it it will get filthy really. And cleaning such a heavily grained leather would be less than easy. Yours is already showing some grunge.

But, if you want to carry it around, by all means do so. Walking into a pool hall with that...well, you win. Hard to top that.

I do take mine to the pool hall occasionally, when I take my Dayton cue. But it is in a cloth sleeve I got from John Barton.

Did you get a key?

I am picky and MUST HAVE keys for all my cases. Some of them have been really hard to find, but I currently have keys for all my cases including my box cases and really unusual tube case locks.

Here are some Fellini style keys I have:

My original Fellini case and key that started it all:

Sweet case Tom , I saw it and the others at the Rack and it and the elephant George were my picks , something about elephant leather it just way cool . Your Tasc has a sweet new house for sure !!

I don't have a key for the case. I think I remember somebody selling some recently. I am sure that would be a real pain sourcing one.

A good cleaning is in order. I may get it looking good and then take a few more pictures. Something like a before and after.

I'll be curious about the results.

Maybe I have been too cautious with mine?

EDIT: Regarding a key, check your PM.

Sold a few

Between $300 and $350. More than a few really. I no longer own Engals cases.
I bought the cases from Sam. Him he called himself hangemhigh. I think he charged everyone a price depending on how broke he was.
Sold them for what I paid. The cases I bought from him were mostly elephant.
Nick :)

Elephant skin subject to the same restrictions as Ivory? That big swath of skin has to cost $400-$500 alone. Beautiful case, subtle elegance.

I don't disagree. At least, that's where they should be.

But for some reason in the open market they have in fact been occasionally selling up to double that. 600-700. And I mean actual selling price.

Why? I don't know. They are not terribly uncommon. Maybe some buyers just don't know the market?

At least they are holding their value.
