Wow, this is a tough set of matches. Jeanette Lee, if she wins her first match, will play Tracie Hines or Xiaoting Pan. The winner there would most likely face Allison.

Tiffany Nelson and Wendy Jans could meet in the second round. Julie Kelly plays Dawn Hopkins, with the winner possibly playing Jennifer Chen.

Ga Young Kim plays Jasmin Ouschan in the first round. It's unfortunate they meet so early. The winner may run into Alice Rim, who has been playing amazing pool lately.

Melissa Herndon gets Val Finnie in the first round. Gerda and Kim White could meet in the second round.

Jenn Barretta has Line Kjoersvik in the first round, possible Romana Dokovic in the second, and then Hsin-Mei Lui in the third.

Vivian and Helena may meet in the third round.

Karen has Leslie Anne Rogers in the first, and then could meet Loree Jon Jones or Angel Paglia in the second. In the third, there's a possibility of meeting Sarah Rousey or Ewa Laurance.

Certainly, whoever wins this event will earn it.

Xiao-Ting just beat Tracie. It was a close one, but at the end it just seemed like Tracie lost interest. I am sure that a part of it was just her usual demeanor at the table, but it just looked like she lost interest.

With the strong international contingent, this is always the toughest field of the year in women's pool. Only three reach TV, so it will take a sensational effort just to reach TV.

Ga Young Kim vs Jasmin Ouschan in the first round is a joke. These are two of the world's top seven players in my estimation, and it's hard to understand why Ouschan isn't seeded. In the past year, Ouschan was the gold medalist at the World Games, came 3rd in the World Championships, won the Straight Pool and Eight Ball events at the European Championships, and finished a respectable ninth in the last BCA Open. Ouschan is among the game's most elite, plain and simple.

The winner will be heavily favored in their next match, and the loser will be a land mine to be avoided on the "B" side.

Wow, what a field! This should be great.

Absolutely DITTO!!! I could just tell from the field I had for the Qualifier in April. It is one of the hottest tickets for the WPBA to get to the BCA! I hope Peg Ledman does this again next year. Sign me up!

It's quite possible that this is the deepest field in the history of women's pro pool.

I'm a bit disappointed by the absence of Zhou Meng Meng, whose game I had been quite keen on seeing.

Can anyone tell me how Line Kjoersvik got into this event? I thought she had given this sport up a couple years ago when she moved back to Norway?

DAMN!!! SJM or someone in Vegas...could you PLEASE tell Line that she has an amazing singing voice and has a real fan here. Ask her to please release some more songs somehow, via the net or CDs...something.

Congrats to Jasmin. That would have been a good match to watch.
She will go really far in this tournament.

I see Pan Xiao Ting beat Jeanette Lee 9-6 in the second round.

I think it's her first win against Jeanette after a couple of losses. When Jeanette came to Shanghai about 16 months ago she was clearly the queen of the show, the center of attention and I felt that intimidated Xiao Ting a bit.

I'm sure she's idolized Jeanette for years, so it will be good for her to get that monkey of her back, if you'll pardon that inappropriate metaphor.

Next she'll play Allison, trying to beat her for the second time in a row.

Wishing her luck, but it's a mightly tough field.

i can see ouschan/hofstetter comin' around the bend. REAL interesting for obvious reasons.

that is one...tough...bracket

Line got an invitation when she took the gold medal in 9 ball in the recent European Championships, among others by beating Jasmine Ouschan in the semi-final (Jasmine won 8-ball and straight pool).

Living in Norway does not mean that you have to give up on pool completely;)

I didn't mean it that way. I had just assumed she had given up pool when she left the US and the WPBA.

I'm quite positive the two have met up in the past during the Austrian National Championships, I have no idea what the outcome was but that was many years ago and Jasmin has obviously improved tremendously from when she was 16 or 17.

Line mentioned last night that she is putting serious thought towards another run at the WPBA. She will have to do it by winning qualifiers to earn her spot on the tour.

As for Jasmin and Ga-Young in the first round, the tournament is using the WPBA rankings with the addition of Shin-Mei Liu in the ranked players. Liu was the only player shuffled into the ranked players.

For the second time this year, Ga Young Kim goes two and out. She lost 9-6 to Stacy Hurst.

How about that Angel Paglia, huh? She's doing pretty good according to the brackets. She beat Loree Jon Jones and Karen Corr and she's still on the winner's side. Good for her!
