Stand up and support the US Open, more now than ever before!!!
I am amazed that the pro's think they can jump up and make demands, like seed us, play by our rules and show is the money.
The US Open has been happening for decades and according to Barry everyones has been paid, and I haven't heard anyone dispute that. For majority of promoters the pool tournaments they do are a passion for the game. With that comes the desire to hang with the best in the biz and to pull off a great event and earn the respect of pool players. No one is getting rich from promoting such events. I do this for a living, I do 20+ events a year, I know what I am talking about. So do the smart pro's or they would start their own events.
I have heard the conversations, ( hey guys if we do this and this we can make pool bigger and better). The pro's answer- what's in it for me! How about screw you. Or here we go. At Derby City this year a pro player was pissing and moaning, pool is to tough to make a living. My wife said- try getting a real job then. The player responded with- hey I have flipped burgers, stocked shelves, cleaned pools and done construction. My reply was- yet here you are, why aren't you doing one of those jobs. He looked at me, smiled and said- screw that, that's to much work!
Yes it could all be better, pro's beware! You could end up flipping burgers or cleaning pools! Sure stand together, but you are going to have to work with the industry not against it.
I could go on for ever about good and bad promoters but that is going to be next week. I can't even remember where I was going with this.

Everyone needs to do this with a professional attitude or pool will just stay stagnant. From the amateur to the pro to the promoter and even the fans. Grow up people!!!!

I don't know about everything that is going on, but one thing is for sure, there should be money ready. If you pay to play, pay to travel, pay to stay, and then place in the cash and someone tells you you will receive a check in 3 to 5 months..... I DON'T THINK SO TIM!

Too many events promise $$ only to later pay less. Lets get the ball rolling in the right direction.

Just saying...

Ok, I am not a speech maker and the only reason I am plaguing this is because I am broke down on the side of the road and bored. The US Open is a very long running event with history. For the pro's to boycott this event is a very stupid power play. Trust me it will go on with out them, most of them will jump ship and play. I get the move on the promoters who short the pay or don't pay at all. However that is also the players, billiard media and fans fault.
I can't even begin to tell you how many events I have been to that a promoter pulls some shady crap and half the people see it and don't say a word or the players turn around and go right back to that persons event again. Greed, stupidity or whatever I don't know.
I get the pro's point but the US Open is not the right event. Seeding is bullshit unless it is a pro event, however the only pro event in the US that I know of is the Mosconi Cup all the other events are open events. Pay the entry and you are in! As far as wanting their own rules, start your own tour. Oh hey buy the way all these different rules for the same game is part of the reason pool doesn't grow. Why would fans want to watch the pro's if they don't know the rules because they are so different from what they play by. The BCAPL has the best set of rules out there.
I do and go to many pool tournaments every year and I can tell you most amateur players can't name ten pro's male or female.
I guess my biggest ***** is that the pro's are making these demands on a proven promoter, and some of their demands are selfish. Make some demands on yourselves to help make pool better

I think they do have a point, would you want to travel all over the world to a tournament, and find out it will be months before you get paid?

Mika, is yet to be paid for the last US OPEN event.

Not according to Barry. I don't read all this crap but did Mika say so himself because there is evidently stuff being said by the ABP that's not true, such as some players being on the boycott list who have every intention of playing.

There are enough posts about this already don't start another one especially if you are not going to do your homework and check facts before posting.

I have made a living since 1983 by earnings commissions. There have been plenty of times I have put many months into a client and have come up empty handed. I knew that going in so I accepted it.The players have to know the sport they love is not one that is ozzing money and there is always that chance that they go 2 and out and walk away with Zero. I agree when you play your heart out you deserve to get paid and something does need to be done.Would it not have been smarter for the players to take hard negotiations with Barry months ago? What do spectators from all over the country do about making their plans? Like it or not they are the meal ticket here both Barry and the players can not survive without them.In the majority of cases they need to get vacation time , plane fare etc. What I am saying is both sides have to think EVERYTHING thru and take all into consideration including the spectators.
