epoxy formulas????????

I use a clear vinyl glove and smear it on going lengthwise, really working it into the pores, then turn on the windshield wiper motor for 2 hrs. To mix it, I cut a popsicle stick in half and use that. I tried the small drink stirrers, but it makes too many air bubbles.

You will find that the thinner you put 20 minute on, the faster it dries. I put my on by hand and use thin coats, I can do 3 thin coats thru out the day starting at the beginning of my day.
It seems to dry faster, harder and works much better than trying to gop it on all in 1 coat.
The 2 tons and 5 minute epoxies do not seem to give the cue a good soak so to speak.
The 20 minute finish cure is the one I perfer and dries much faster in thinner coats.
I have tried west for sealer, just to hard to cut when fully dried! Leaves the cue , especially in darker woods, scratchy and hard to work out.
Just my 2 cents,
Jim Lee

Hi,

For G5 I just use my bare finger move from right to left in a sweeping motion while spinning the lathe at 400 RPM. As the stuff starts to set up I use a dry finger to sweep the surface to get rid of high spots and lines.

If I am not at 70 to 85 degrees, it is problematic. In the temp range and I am loving the results. I made a wooden enclosure with light bulbs and a thermostat that sits over my cue when it is between centers on my wood lathe.

During colder weather I can leave my shop on 62 degrees all night while my epoxied cue sits between 75 & 80 degrees. I also have the same set up in my spray booth with a wooden homemade butterfly valve on my 12" exhaust and a flip door on the front of the booth to keep the booth from getting cold air leakage.

Since I did this my finish is better than I ever thought I would obtain. PPG states how critical the temperature component is and the reducer can be purchased for three different 15 degree temperature ranges. 55-70 65-80 75-90 degrees respectively.

just sanded both cues
all is well
crystal clear
came off as fine white dust, just like it's supposed to

Epoxy applicators

Wow! Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips on how best to apply the epoxy. I always seem to have too many ridges, and was looking for a way to make it smoother before I start sanding. Thanks again! Good stuff!

sweat

One suggestion I will suggest when working with epoxy is to let the epoxy "sweat". After you have mixed your epoxy to your satisfaction let it sweat for
awhile--the time for sweating depends on the epoxy, i.e., 5-minute about 30
seconds, 10 min. about 2 mintes ans so on. After the sweat period re-stir and use. You will have better results if you remember to "sweat" your epoxy.

As I have never heard of the term "sweating". This is a very good point with any catalyzed product. An old finish guy told me to mix your clear and then go have a beer then come back mix again and then shoot. Ever since then things cure faster and more evenly. Granted this depends on what epoxy "cure time" you use but still great information...

Dieckman Sayzzzz

i ran out (spilled it actually) of the bob smith industries 20 minute finish cure that i normally use for coring and for sealing cues
i ran to a local hobby shop that i knew had it
well, they were out of it, so i got the 30 minute slow cure to hold me over till my prathers order gets here, figuring it'll just take longer to dry
anyways, the first thing i noticed is the 30 minute is much thicker than the 20 minute
i mixed up the 30 minute, wiped onto cue with a plastic spreader as i always do
ONE HOUR later the cue is almost dry, still a little tacky though
when i do this with the 20 minute , it's a good 12 hours minimum to be dry
confused

Well at least you only spilled it it, didn't burn it. Did you think to call Bob Smith about it ????

on saturday? no
i'd rather call you or brugge and pester you
no need to call bsi, it's ALL GOOD as i said above , just logic seems that it would take longer to dry than the 20 minute formula
this 30 minute acted almost like 5 minute

Hell, Brent I would of ask Dieckman For a Special Delivery of his Expoy, as long as its' was burnt!!!!!!!!!!
