Did Johnny intentionally pull a shark move when he interupted Wiseman's shot on the 5 in the side during their match? Even if it wasn't intentional, should he have interupted him during the middle of his shot? Isn't that what the referee is there for? What did you guys think about Wiseman's reaction when Johnny tried to apologize to him later though?

I already said this in another thread. Bad form old chap. It's the Ref's job. Another poster said it better than me. Basically, sit in your chair, and say nothing til it's your shot.

I would be a little different if it was a match without a ref, but it is BS when someone is down on a shot to say anything. If you are going to question a hit like that say something very early and get someone to watch the shot.

In this case where they have a ref on hand, bring it to the ref attention or say nothing at all. That is the refs job.

In my opinion, it should be a sharking foul and ball in hand to Wiseman. I would like to see them write that in the rule book!

The first option is obvious whether it was intentional or not. I'm inclined to give Archer the benefit of the doubt, but for a veteran it was so inappropriate that you almost have to assume it was intentional.

total shark move. It just so happend that it wiseman was on the hill when this happend? Makes you wonder.

Johnny had to know what he was doing. He couldve gotten the refs attention without disrupting wiseman, and he didnt do that. Just sit still and take your beating like a man.

Me being a professional railbird and a lot of other assorted things, according to some members of this forum , I gotta throw my 2 cents into this thread.

First and foremost, man, what a great production that was by ESPN of pool. I can actually say that I enjoyed pool on TV for a change. I cannot get over how well done it was. Bravo to ESPN. Keep 'em coming! :p

On the field of green, I have seen Johnny express himself in an aggressive manner to his opponents, but you know what, they all do it. It ain't just Johnny Archer.

Personally, I will NEVER believe that Johnny Archer purposefully sharked Ronnie Wiseman. I think in the heat of the battle, he reacted too quickly, before realizing that it was inappropriate at that exact second to ask a question about a shot while the ref was watching.

It is easy to sit at home and watch this all unfold on TV, but nobody truly knows what was going on behind the scenes except those who were there and/or involved in the match.

I was elated to see Ronnie Wiseman do so well, and I was pulling real hard for him to win. Ronnie is a good friend. ;)

I think sometimes the pros get so worked up before an event, that they're on full tilt when they're in the pit. Several times, I have seen squabbles at major tournaments between opponents, and I am reminded of two male dogs growling at each other.

I don't think Johnny intentionally sharked Wiseman. As far as the handshake, emotions run high in these tournaments. Johnny and Keith got into it at one tournament, smack in the middle of the match, and of course, I thought Johnny was in the wrong, but you know what, after the match, Johnny walked over to Keith and put his arm around Keith, and the two of them had a nice chat. It was an emotional conversation, but Johnny couldn't have been nicer.

If you want a role model for a young person, it would be Johnny Archer. He is an asset to this sport, and though he may not have shaken Ronnie's hand right at that exact moment when all the cameras were on him and his emotions were high, he is a human being. I am 100-percent positive that Johnny went out of his way to make amends with Ronnie later. That is the Johnny Archer I know. Yes, he's a professional pool player, a champion, and he's a human being. We all do things in life that we wish we could have done differently. That's human nature.

Desperate players who have not been winning in the last several years, calls for desperate measures, to win at the slightest cost...

Wiseman:" He comes over and asked what's the rule on this shot. I said how many tournaments you have to play in before you learn the rules?"

Wish the audio was loud enough to hear the exchange on TV.

I was going ask this in a post as well. Definate sharking. I think Archer is turning into Strickland with the way he behaves at the table.

Part of the intent of sharking someone is to distract them into missing the shot.

I'd like to think that Johnny would never shark anyone but in this particular situation, in the heat of battle, Johnny's approaching the table and asking a question, was distracting (and certainly satisfies the definition of sharking, whether intentional or not).

Johnny certainly knows the rules on shooting frozen balls so there's no way one can believe that all of a sudden he had a question about shooting frozen balls.

Johnny didn't particularly play that well in this match but that was his fault not Ronnie's. The sportsmanlike thing for Johnny to do was to shake his opponents hand after the match was over and congratulate him.

I think if Johnny had to do it over again, he would have stayed seated.

Deliberate shark move or not, it was a mistake plain and simple.

I am REALLY enjoying these Inside Pool interviews with the players. It allows you to get to know them a little bit, really cool. They also have one in there with Archer's side of the story. And they have some with Jasmin Ouschan, Ga Young Kim, and Anna Kostanian as well. Nice work, I hope they keep it up.

I was thinking the same thing watching the match. I was like man if Wiseman loses now there is definitely going to be some controversy.

Yeah that would've been interesting.

I enjoyed it too. They did a really nice job on this one. Maybe Mark Wilson had something to do with it. They should keep him in there for good.

Thanks for providing the link so we can get Archer's side of the story.

Johnny thought that Ronnie was going to shoot into the balls so he approached the table to find out what the rule was on shooting frozen balls. Since Johnny's been playing for over 20 years, that explanation is hard to believe.

If your opponent is about to foul, it's to your advantage to let him shoot and then let the referee call the foul. Archer should have been given a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct.

It didn't look like Johnny shook Wiseman's hand after the match.

Not sure if Johnny's "move" was intentional or not but I think there should be a rule against this type of behavior in a referee'd match.

Archer:I shot bad, but so did he. He just shot one game better than me.

I don't think his explanation washed either. He should have let the ref do his job. Bad form on his part.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think he was pissed off that Wiseman didn't want to accept his apology earlier after "the move". When Johnny tried to apologize Wiseman was like "Not now, not now, not after that move".
