Ethics? If the final 2 split the purse?

How would ya'll feel if the final two decided to split the prize 300k a piece?

Would we the fans be deprived of their best game? Would the lack of pressure make for a higher level of play, or would we see two guys just bangin away with no concern for strategy and safeties?

With the fans being none the wiser, would you consider this ethical?

Keep in mind that in this particular instance, the winner would still
advance to the finals of the KOTH which means these same two finalists could be dividing up future earnings from that tourney also.

Would they even be allowed to do this....It's not like a weekly tourney where you might split the pot just to put an end to it and get some sleep before work....

That's a lot of money to trust to a handshake.

And like you say, it is not only $500,000 to the winner but an almost guarantee that the winner will be the KOTH which is a bunch of additional money.

Somehow, when the IPT decided to make the KOTH the person with the most money won they didn't take into consideration that whoever wins this tournament will also be the highest money winner. I think they thought that it would be a closer race.

Then the winner has a big tax bill to consider too.

I don't see a split. Or a saver. It will be a fight to the finish.

trust is the issue as the money will prob be wired to each players account later. However if it was two really REALLY good friends I could imagine them having a saver. The winner gets an extra 100k for KOTH probably so might as well have 300k each lol

Its been said on this board already but apparently there was LOTS of money changing hands in vegas to change the results of some matches - hope they can eliminate this. The bookies wont be around long otherwise, I thought the % carrying over to each tournament would have helped.

Remember the IPT originally had the London event scheduled and if it were to
take place, which we now know it won't, the winner of this tourney
wouldn't neccesarily be KOTH.

Ultimately though I think the amount of money is too much for a handshake, not to mention the tax considerations and how that would come into play.

Yes, for proof of that take the recently completed World Series of Poker final event. The $12 million first prize is still in the vault at the Rio pending legal action. The winner and another individual reportedly had an agreement to split the players winnings.

This is an absurd post, the winner will get a 1099 and be kicked off the tour for life once found out.

The money being frozen is the result of a much different deal than what is being disucssed with regards to the IPT. It was a deal made before the WSOP with someone who wasn't playing in the event.

Bruce Crispin Leyser, a Los Angeles-based TV development executive, alleges in a suit filed Monday in Clark County District Court that WSOP winner Jamie Gold, a former Hollywood talent agent, agreed in July to split his winnings in exchange for Leyser helping him find celebrities to play in the main event while wearing the “Bodog” label of an offshore Internet gambling site.

Bodog paid the $10,000 entry fee for Gold, who beat 8,772 players to win the world’s largest poker tournament.

Leyser alleges he fulfilled his end of the deal — getting Scooby Doo star Matthew Lillard and Punk’d comedian Dax Shepard to wear the brand — but claimed Gold has refused to hand over $6 million.

Gold said in a statement issued through his lawyers that he was “disappointed” that “a person he has only known since July of this year has elected to file litigation rather than continue the parties’ discussions in an effort to find a resolution to this matter.”

If the players made a private deal to split then they would probably play it out hard for the title, the stats and the "points". The winner of this tournament is almost guaranteed to get KOH and pick up at least an extra hundred thousand.

No one can stop the players from giving money to each other. I doubt that trust is an issue at this level either. Backers might be more of the issue. There are probably more fingers in the pie than we know about. Both consortiums probably have to agree to the split before anything is done.

I was only using that example in regards to making a deal on only a handshake or one's word.

Once these players start making real money you will not need to worry about getting a full effort out of the players in a final, you think Tiger would split a purse, or dog it even if he did? No, and most golfers want to be the winner of a tournament for more then just the money.

At some point the title of IPT World 8 ball champion will be a very important, and being the first IPT world champion is very cool indeed. I know most golfers would give up all the money of first place to be the winner of Masters or the British open, just ask any one who won the masters what's most important the money or the jacket and every single one of them would say the prestige and the green jacket.

Also, the difference between first and second is enough for a player to really want to go after the $500,000 and failing and coming in second is not like nothing it's $150,000 which is a HUGE consolation for not winning. I know I would never in a million years do a split when second is that much.

Even if they were nuts enough to trust someone on a handshake an give up the chance at the $500,000 they would still play there hearts out for the title, the game winning% and the chance to pad yearly earnings to be the king of the hill and the #1 IPT player of the year.

So, even if they did for some reason, their not going to dog it, if not for the fear of the other player not living up to the deal, it's not like $10,000, it's serious money here.

I think ....

This would come under 'Sportsmanship' in the rule book. Ironic, though, because I was asked last night if we were going to split, and I said no, we are playing it out, and that's what will be done for the Championship.
I think pride, at this point, is too much a factor.

Do you think they split in the Super Bowl? ... lol or that Wimpy split in the past? Maybe, they should get Machine Gun Lou's comments on this?
I am not naive, but I think you guys are just trying to find trouble where there isn't any.

IMO, It will be played out, and it will be a Championship. What, you aren't happy with the players. Well, they earned it, and the others did NOT. The others still have work to do, as they say. They p0layed all week, everyday, and they are in the final because of that, and coming though on the last day, THEY EARNED IT.

Some people just won't be happy, UNTIL the IPT does it THEIR WAY!!! .... lol ... LMAO ...ROFL ... 5 inch balls, 2.5 in pockets ... shoot what you make ... keep that arm behind your back, Efren .... Get your left foot off the ground when you shoot Corey ...

splitting of the purse will never happen, mostly becauseof the tax implications.

a 50 or 75k saver in this situation though is noy out of the question.

along the way, throughout the tourney, as players advance, a finalist may have MULTIPLE savers. some could be percentage based (5 or 10%) which are generally madein the earlier rounds (lets say final 36). later in the event, savers are for specific dollar amounts.

In another post, I read at a players meeting Kevin Trudeau warned the players about throwing matches and splitting winnings.Apparently the penalty for doing so could mean losing your IPT playing card.If this were the case I'm not so sure the players would take a chance in doing so.Maybe Rakmsuckr or Colin Colenso can verify exactly what was said at the players meeting.

RJ, I don't really care what kt may or may not have said. Throwing matches is one thing, of which I have no first hand knowledge of and haevnt said has taken place.

Savers on the other hand, I DO have first hand specific knowledge has happened in this and the last ipt event. (Please, you know I won't give names, so don't even ask).

Oh come on!! This shouldn't even be a discussion! Efren is the ultimate sportsman!

And Rodney? Well....Rodney would never doing anything BAD, would he now?

Hi NYC,

I'm sure savers still occur despite what anyone says.
Other than that I'm no KT cop.:D
