European Open 2025, Sarajevo, March 11-16

when anyone can win over 80% of their matches in any tournament it means the game is not set up right.
needs some changes so certain specific qualities dont effect the outcome so much or perhaps matches should be shorter.

few matches are exciting when they are a cakewalk.

if you mean filler, it doesn't matter what game. he wins in bank pool, straight pool, 8-ball, etc. master of the table at DCC. so are those games also not set up right?

maybe. but he isnt the only player that dominates all the others. so that most tournaments are walkaways for certain players, and that isnt good for the long term.

possibly setting things up so the thought process is how can we make it so many of the entrants can do well instead of trying to make it so the tournament proves who is the best. we all know that already.

maybe you should organize such an event. everyone gets a trophy. it's certainly uncommon, or non-existent, in any sport at pro level. so it would at least be a novelty

sporting events of all kinds rarely have the favorites to win, take out almost all the money.
or have them win a major percentage of each of the matches.

pool in 1980 was bigger than poker. now look at the difference. and it is because many believe they have a real chance of cashing in big .

everyone doesn't need a prize, that is for kids. but everyone needs to believe they may cash in if things go right for them, or at least can get lucky and win. for the sport to grow. especially on the pro level.

sure they do. djokovic has a hardcourt match winning percentage at 85% the last decade. before him federer and nadal dominated.

the MR majors the last two years have had a very diverse group of winners. i think there are only two or three players that have won multiple majors. but i could be wrong, if so enlighten me..

i know you cling onto olden times dearly, and i don't want to take that away from you, but the pro tournaments in the 80's paid peanuts. players had to gamble on the side and sponsorship usually meant peddling cues out of your trunk. now the world championship pays 250k to the winner and the US open 100k. pro pool is doing better than ever

I don’t agree with the APA thinking…..the pro game is elitist….and so it should be….there are young players watching that are dreaming how to get good enough.

pijus beat hoang 10-6. not the best showing, from either player

filler up next
Labutis was solid up to 8-3 but played poorly from that point on. Whether he plays Josh or Szewczyk tomorrow in the semi, he'll have to play better than this to reach the final.

i think the stats said 6 misses. that wouldn't fly against filler

This is incredibly high-level pool.
You're not kidding. Two great ones in stroke together.

Filler's runout in Rack 10 was simply amazing for 6-4 ahead, but this match is up for grabs when both are playing this well.

Szewczyk's runout in Rack 11 just as impressive for 6-5 behind. What a match!

Filler wins it 10-6 but all the credit to Szewczyk, who played great pool and had just two misses in the match. Commentator said Josh missed just three balls on Saturday in his two matches combined. What a standard!

Oi has been destroying his opponents, never count him out for his jolly demeanor. He is a ruthless shooter! A good opportunity for him because many times he is forgotten from the list of favourites to win and he can just play his fast offensive runout pool.

Watching the rise of Labutis as a cueist has been a joy. In the past four months alone, he won bronze at the International 9ball, gold at the Derby City 10ball, and he will earn at least a bronze medal tomorrow at the European Open. He is starting to look like a superstar in the making. Given the kind of pool he has been playing, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Labutis is on Team Europe this year at the Mosconi. Europe just keeps on producing champions.

Yes, Naoyuki's entertaining for sure, and what I like about him is that he'll take on some extremely difficult shots, the ones you often see even Gorst and Filler passing on. His "go for it" style makes for good viewing.

... Were there tickets sold for public viewing, or was it a closed European Open to the public?
Yes, tickets are available. Also, the players each got four guest passes to the first three days.
Karl Boyes whispers a lot. ...
Some of the players could hear the commentary. I think the booth is in the balcony above the streamed tables.
