Ever go to sleep thinking of pool shots?

Been doing it since I was in high-school. Now that I'm a basement player, it happens most every night. I envision spot shots, corner-to-corner banks, and all manner of three-cushion shots.

I'm a codger now, yet I never ever suffer insomnia. Thinking there must be more of you.

For sure!!

I think all of us "degenerate" players do. I've been dreaming about pool and billirds as long as I can remember!

The question is though, do you still dream about Sex too?

Of course! Enjoy!

Actually, it's occurred to me that it could be accomplished either under or over. Answer is yes.

About 20 yrs. ago, I was playing a guy a race to 9 for a pretty good amount. We were tied 8-8 and I had the case 9 ball about a foot from the corner pocket. Simple shot.

I hit the back of the pocket and the ball hopped back out on the table and stopped right in the jaws.

For years after that, I would dream about missing that shot and wake up out of a dead sleep with my heart pounding.

Funny thing, in the dream I would see myself shooting the shot from the back of the pocket.

Thanks in advance for reminding me about that shot. I'll probably dream about it tonight. LOL

I feel for you with that story Stones, that hurts. It makes me think of this video:

Make sure you watch it all the way through for both shots... incredible!

I still don't understand why Efren takes the 6 ball out of the pocket, looks at it, then puts it back in just to have it do the same thing to him. I woulda taken every ball out of that pocket and then lined it with one of my pool towels!

There was a time when I ate, drank, slept, and breathed pool. I'm afraid those days are long behind me, now.

Actually I am currently working on a change to my preshot routine and instead of counting sheep I am putting myself to sleep every night going through the routine while pocketing easy shots in my head.....

I worked for 30 years on the assembly line at General Motors. I have been retired for eight years now. About 3 or 4 times a month I have this dream/nightmare that I'm back working on the assembly line, only now the line is running so damn fast that I can't keep up. I'm getting further and further behind and I'm running back and forth from my work station to the automobile I need to be working on carrying a handful of parts and a pneumatic gun, dropping screws and shit all over the floor. The faster I run the further behind I get. My supervisor is all over my ass wanting to know what the hell is going on. Everything's snowballing to the point of total frustration. Eventually I wake up and I'm breathing hard (and sometimes sweating). Most of the time I go back to sleep and damn-it if I don't pick the nightmare up right where it left off.

So.....now when I go back to sleep I think about playing pool to try to replace the nightmare with something pleasing to me. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

oh yeah, when I played a lot. But it also happens with other things: if I play cards a lot I see them as I sleep.

It doesn't happen all of the time, but it happens enough...lol.

Most, but not all, of the time it happens the night I have a match and I either remember the shots from the match that went well (ie., break and run) or shots I missed that were pivotal in the match (ie., I lost).

I enjoy the break and run dreams more...lol.

lol..this thread is funny to me cause i actually use "running out in my head" as viagra... i can think about pool and running out etc to last longer...i ve actually told my wife and she laughs and says "whatever works honey" ;) try it...it actually works

When ever I lose a race in a tournament because of an easy miss or getting bad position on a routine shot I seem to replay it over and over while falling asleep. Maybe this is the sub conscious way of remembering the mistake for the next time it comes up.

a few years back i played in a team tournament and we were doing really good and we matched up with a team i knew every player and all of them were at least one rank above the division they were playing in (i was the lone high ranker on my team) it was a vnea tournament and it got down to the last two games and my teammate was playing a very strong player and my teammate was our weak link so i had to step up...well the way the points worked out if i was to break and run out and allow him 2 points or less we won no matter what...so i break and he had given me a bad rack!! well i manage to make a miraculous run out all the way to the ball before the 8 ball all i have to do is make it and keep the cue ball in that general area for the 8 and we win...so i stupidly slow roll it and it rolls straight as an arrow until about 6 inches from the pocket and takes a 90 degree turn and he runs out and we lose by 2 points...i still dream about that shot all the time especially if i have something similar recently in a game.

Yo Maniac -- You ever read a book called Rivethead? Written by a guy who worked the GM line (and was a pal of Michael Moore.)

One of the funniest books I ever read. This is way off topic, but what the hey ... It's my thread.

Happy dreams.

This a great example of having imagination and visualization build muscle memory!

That's one of the reasons I posted this. I honestly think it benefits my game. Generally I start hitting balls right after my morning routine of coffee and newspapers is over.

And honestly, it seems to help. I'm still improving. I could play golf every day the rest of my life and never improve at my age. But pool, yes, definitely.

Ever go to sleep thinking of pool shots?

Yup. Usually when I lose.

:p

Of course that means I do so a lot.

When I used to play for long sessions 12 hours plus. I always saw paterns and colors of the balls in my head when I closed my eyes. The same thing used to happen when playing the game Tetris with different color shapes.

The random colors get into your head, I'm pretty sure there is actually a technical term for this occurance its almost subliminal
