Ever hear of a CPS cue ?

I have the chance to get my hands on one. It's a nice looking cue, but I've never heard of CPS.

Any help is appreciated...

> Maybe the initials stand for Craig Peterson?

If that is the case,GET IT.

Craig passed away in 1991-2 or so,and was said to have made less than 100 cues. They are prized for playability, and by all accounts were a very well made cue.

Unless I'm mistaken,he eventually died from spraying his cues with Imron clearcoat without breathing equipment.

Hope this helps,Tommy D.

A quick Google search came up with the name Schon right off the bat, but it was pictures of kitchen faucets (wtf?!). Another link was directed to some site called "Shooters" and was a testimonial from some guy thanking "Kathy" for shipping the cue quickly and asking if there were anymore "C P S" cues in the $50 range left.

I don't know if this helps or not, but I tried.

cps

I've seen a few cues with CPS on the butt cup.
They were low quality and low priced.
Be wary

Thanks for lookin' it up for me...

This is the CPS cue that I can acquire. It kinda looks like a Schon that one of our league players has.

All I can say is test hit it if possible. If you can play with it for a little bit, and like the hit, get it. If you can't test it, I personally wouldn't buy it. That link I said that mentioned the "$50 range" threw up a red flag to me, but if you can hit it and you like it, who cares? I wouldn't pay too much for it though, use your discretion.

I have also been trying to research CPS cues, and all I have been able to find about them is this one, in the link below, that claims that the CPS line of cues were made by Adam.

It is the 3rd cue, on the right hand side, and the only CPS cue for sale on that site.

https://mrbilliard.com/product-category/cues/adam-custom-cue/

That is the only CPS cue that I have been able to find marketed for sale anywhere.

So, I do not know what CPS stands for, but these look to be good quality cues, so it is believable that they were made by the Adam / Helmstetter cue company, in Japan.

If anyone knows any info about these cues, then I would be grateful for any additional info about them.

I can only assume that they were made in very limited quantities, and whoever had them made, put such a high retail price on them, that they were unable to sell them. So, no more of them were ordered under that brand name. That is just a guess.

ADAM has offered a lot of brands of cues. Never heard of CPS til now. You might contact the guy at CompetitionSports in Florida. He used to import/dist. the high-end ADAM cues. Knows a lot about them. http://www.competitionsports.com/

Are those inlays or overlays?

Nice looking cue with classic looks.

Maniac (and yes, hit some balls with it if possible)

I imagine they are probably real inlays, considering the price that the retailer says the cue retailed for.

I can understand why many would think that Adam cues are very low end cues, because some of their cues were made in China, or other parts of Asia.

The good quality ones were made in Japan though.

Adam cues are all now made in China, except for their super high end line of Musashi cues. Here is one example.

https://billiardwarehouse.com/cues/musashi/musashi_im602_pool_cue.htm

Miki of Mezz cues also claimed to be the maker of Adam cues, from 1971 to 1994, when they decided to start their own line of cues, which they named Mezz cues.

I am just trying to make a point that not all Adam cues were low end, and some have been pretty high end, for a production cue.

C ------ Can't
P ------ Pocket
S ------ Shit

Maniac

You are hilarious, but the fact is that I have seen guys with $2,000 cues that could not run 4 balls in a row, on their best day.

I have also known players who could run racks out with a broom handle.

You beat me to it, but I was thinking:

Chinese
Produced
Shit.

:)

Just kidding, though.

But if it is an ADAM from Japan, I'm sure it is good quality.

Yeah, cues from Japan, like Mezz, Exceed, and Adam Musashi, are probably the highest quality production cues in the world, if it is fair to call some of the higher end customs production cues.

I am not sure exactly how long, but I am guessing that for at least the last 15 years, a lot of cues coming from China have been very high quality.

Predator, Lucasi, Universal, Adam, Fury, Peri, and I am sure I am missing many other brands that come from Chinese factories that make very high quality cues.

The thing that I think is really crazy, is that the retail prices on some of the above cues are higher then many very well known, and highly reputable American cue makers cues.

Here is just 1 example of a Fury cue, from China, that retails for over $1800.

Sorry for going so far off topic, from the OP's original question.

I believe that most Adam cues were made in Japan, at least up until the mid 90's.

They did have a few low end lines, that were probably in the $100 retail price range, I am guessing, that were probably from China. Those very low end cues had overlays, and poor quality shafts on them, in my experience with shooting with them on a few occasions.

This thread is ten years old, and the CPS cues remain an enigma
Someone really dropped the ball on this one
Where's Chopdoc when you need him?

Never seen ADAM cue with decals. Even the Chinese built ones have all been inlaid. ADAM started building most of their stuff at Taican/Universal around '95-'96-ish. They still make the hi-end Musashi line in Japan. They are expensive but super nice.
