An elder statesman of the game. The road harderned player that has more knowledge than a set of encyclopedias and more stories than a library. My local pool hall has WT Wetzel, who is 71 and still runs racks on a regular basis and is always a serious threat in any tournament. On good nights we can get him telling stories from 20+ years on the road through the south and it really highlights the characters our sport has produced- both good and bad. I hope someone is capturing the stories from these guys while we still can.

Peace,
Steve

strongly agree!

We are going to look around soon and all of the real deal old time players will be gone. All that will be left are the BS artists. The knowledge of pool these old guys have is priceless as are the stories. Every hall needs an old man that can recall five or six decades ago better than he can yesterday.

Some Of Us Are Lots Older Than Your Man

Hal,

You have as much knowledge and as many stories as anyone in the pool world. You post here often enough that this forum is your pool hall.

How about opening up with some stories or even some of your hard earned knowledge?

Hal,

Is that kinda like evey family having at least one odd character and if you can't think of who it is in your family, its probably you?:D

My hat's off to you sir- thanks for contributing to the game!

Ain't that the truth. After 35 years, what do I need, a little experience.

I've had a few bouts over the years where "I thought" I played as well as anyone in the country. Looking back, it was just enough to keep me "Good and HOOKED".

What a great post Runnin8. While having at least one old road player in each poolroom acoss the country would be great, there are probably 25 or more old roadies on AZ Billiards that could post a story from their past every once in awhile. Some do. I know some on here want to save them for the books their writing of their past and want to put those stories in their books. They can still put the story in their book whenever they write and publish it. It would be one or two stories out of the hundreds that the've lived.

You know, you are so right. I spent most of my adult life on the road and have run into some crazy, crazy situations. I've posted a few and the trouble I have with it, after reviewing them is that if people don't believe them, I wouldn't blame them in the least.

My Fianc'e is a French High School teacher and has lead a pretty conventional life, and a great person. When she gets me talking about some of the "wild Days" she looks at me in total amazement and can't believe anyone would ever live that life

My wife of over 40 years, a nurse and came from a family of playing polo on Sunday's on the North Shore of Long Island led a very sheltered life before she met me.

On our second date I brought her to a bar called the Log Cabin Inn in Oceanside, LI, NY after the movies. This was not a place that many people liked me. I played a guy ten dollars a game 8-ball (1966) and won the first game and asked for my money.

The guy says we were just playing for a beer. I hit him so hard I knocked out or loosened a bunch of his teeth. (I know this because his BIG brother came after me a few days later with a dental bill he wanted me to pay) I just got a BIGGER friend to talk some sense into him.

Anyhow everyone in the place is coming at me. I yell to Ginny to go start the car. I backed to the front door swinging the bar cue to keep them at bay until she blew the horn out front. I ran out the door, jumped in the car and she pulled away with tires sceeching.

That was the LAST time she ever set foot in a poolroom or bar with me. And that was not a bad thing. Johnnyt
