Everyone complains about pool just needing a major sponsor....

How many league owners do you think there are, and how many league operators are there? Why do you suppose that with pool being played on bar tables all over the world...there isn't a pool league called the "world pool league"?

I have no clue...i don't know enough about the leagues to have an opinion on that... CSI is obviously international, are you saying they should have an international pro division?

Well I hope you can make it happen man! It'd sure be cool to see something major in pool happening!

I've talked to Stan shuffett about this and he'd nump on the idea in a hesrtbeat. That while lets say Stan is giving an 8 hour lesson to a student on August 10th coming up, and that lesson is going to run say $1,500 but....through Gunslinger Saloon restaurant and Event Center, it's going to be offering the event live via cameras linked to the internet server in the OK Corral, and for $100 you can take the same 8 hour class the student is paying for, all you have to do is sign up, pay your tuition, and wait for Aug 10th to come around, next thing ya know, Stan has 1 student and 2,000 viewers, half of which gets counted as advertising during the next up coming event. That's $1,500 from one student, and $200,000 in viewership, of which $100,000 gets added to the next tournament as advertising for the Stan Shuffett center to edge training seminar and training manuals.

Remember now, world wide viewership, not exclusively US based.

CSI's po leagues are international....really? What other countries is the CSI pool leagues being played in? I know not to long ago the APA expanded to Japan, but never heard of them being in any other countries. I know Diamond sells a shit load of bar tables in Moscow Russia, but never heard of any pool leage players from there coming to any Nationals playoffs in Vegas. Kind of see what i.mean when i say "World pool league"

I know for sure there's a team coming from Australia to play in the BCAPL (CSI) Nationals event... Other than that I honestly don't know.

There's a lot of other thing's that would get chaged as well, such as during a live event, all internet capabilities would be blocked for viewers in attendance as to cut down on passing on details of whats being played out live. As a sponsor to AZB I'd insist that any person posting any information about a live event be banned for a year for rebroadcasting without explicit permission, and the cost to AZB for not backing up the agreement, loss of advertising income. Any person who's paid for viewership of an event will first have to agree not to rebroadcast such an event, or face losing their viewership rights for 1 year. And all Pro's would be required to take drug testing the as they lose out of an event, or risk forfeiture of pay, and a lifetime suspension of tournaments.... non negotiable! If the player should fail the drug test, upon review, the players pay shall be returned to the prize money fund and added to the next event, ban will go into effect immediately. There is NO room for the past in the FUTURE if this sport is going to be expected to change for the better of all those involved.

People just don't see this sport the same as i do, therefore they can't see the changes that need to be made in order to make it better cor all those involved. Let me give you another example. Take the Frost and DO one pocket match, if that were to have been held at the OK Corral, neither of them would have needed backers as the viewerships would have been the prize money, 50% would have gone to the players, split equally, and 50% would have been THEIR donation to the next world one pocket championsip title tournament. Then instead of TC vs DO at Big Dogs, I'd have schedualed a 32 Pro Player number one contender tournament for them on the road to determine the challenge player against the world 10 ball champion, and I'd have moved the one pocket match to the OK Corral, once again splitting the proceeds as described. I'd do this to build up a players choice world one pocket champion to defend that title against the tournament world champion as a way of building up the championship crown. Then after the world championship is over, there'd only be one crowned champion. And yep, you guessed it, one player could hold several world title crowns, but would still be required to defend them against all nbr 1 contenders to keep the titles. And believe me when i say, there would be a lot of pool room owners around the world offering the top pro's their locations in order to bring them in for a tournaments and points earning nbr 1 contentership. At 8 Pros or more per tournament, there nay be 10 or more events taking place all the time, all around the world as points are gathered by the number of wins per quarter.

Some great ideas,Glen.
Don't forget good lighting and most important - good sound.
So many decent training videos are ruined by the lack of microphones at the table and on the people.

The Training Table is a great idea especially if it is augmented with a digital display projected onto the cloth.

Let me know when I can help out as a gofer.

AND as much as i hate to say it, there would be no vendor booths at the OK Corral, hense, no vendor sales going on.

I'll give you something else to think about Jay, use your imagination and lets say i pull off the first world 10 ball championship and nust for example lets say SVB won all the marbles as was crowned the reigning world 10 ball champion. First of all, because he's the reigning world champion he is not required to play in the next years world championship tournament again to defend his title, BUT.... he MUST defend his title throughout the year against any nbr 1 contender. The nbr 1 contender is decided by the other 127 Pro's playing in tournaments in which only THEY are allowed to compete in as they've earned that privilege for a year by already making the cut to the Pro division for the last world championship tournament. Newcomers have to wait to make the cut for the next years world championship tournament in order to enter the nbr 1 contender challenge. So, to determine the nbr on contender position the players have to match up, at least 8 of them at events like DCC, US Open, or ANY pool room around the world that would be willing to let them hoste an event at their place. Points are awarded based on the amount of wins they collect per event. After 3 months, the highest points earner can then challenge SVB to a mandatory title match, in which case SVB would have to accept. SVB would have to play the challenger in the same format as the world tournament is held, BUT....instead of playing a single race to 21 in a 3 hour time frame, the challenger would be required to beat SVB either 3 straight 3 hour matches, or best 3 out of 5 three hour matches. If the challenger loses, SVB retains his title. If he loses, he returns back the the tournament list of players and must earn a nbr 1 contender position or win the next upcoming world championship, which earns the right to be the nbr 1 contender and a shot at regaining the title. If during the year following winning the title, he has NOT lost it, he becomes the sitting world champion waiting at the world championships to end so as to provide him with his next defence of his world title crown. If for example SVB holds his title for say 5 years and is undefeated in that time frame, he becomes the longest reigning world champion in 10 ball, sucessfully defending the title from 14 nbr 1 contender challenges....just an example, or the title could read....SVB just won the world championship 10 ball title for the 3rd time, successfully taking it away from so-n-so for his 3rd championsip title.

You have many good ideas Glen, the hard part is too turn these good ideas into reality. To start with you need a business plan that you can present to potential sponsors. Organizing and creating such events would take a lot of manpower and time. I wish you luck in your endeavor.

Here's a good one for you Jay, 14.1 world championship tournaments would have a maximum time limit of 8 hours per match, with 2 15 minute breaks on the clock, 30 minute dinner break off the clock. Matches would be a race to 1,000 points....BUT, broke down into point wins every 200 points, or by a 300 point spread for an early win by KO. As long as a player stays in the lead and reaches 200, 400, and 600 points first, they win by 3-0 if they lose on one of those leads, they can still win by a score of 3-1...as I don't expect ro many players to win by a 3-2 point spread. I feel that if the working class people can put in a minimum 8 hour work day, at least 5 days a week for their pay checks, then its a hell of a pay day to the losing player to have earned $500 for ONE day on the job! And, its still a single elimination format, so the first losing player can return home and cut the bleeding cost to stick around if they want to.

You want to break Willie Mosconi's 526 point record, that's how you do it, even if a player is down by more than 300 points, the player hasn't lost yet untill the player shooting misses, and the incoming player fails to match the run of the player that is in the lead, then the player loses.

Bank pool tournaments need to change too, from a 9 ball short rack to the 15 ball full rack, but points need to be awared based on the number of banks per ball pocketed, then set the match points to 50, 75, or 100 points per match, with a 25 point spread as a early win by KO, and still a 3 hour time limit per match, no buy backs, no double elimination, all matches start on time, end on time, and the tournament ends on the time its said to end....6 months in advance! ALL world championship tournaments have to be ran starting on Saturday morning, and be finish up and crown a tournament champion by Sunday early evening....for the working class around the world to have the off work time to watch, or even record it and watch it when they can. In my tournament system, not only can i tell you when a player is going to play next, i can tell you which table too, as ALL matches start at the same time, and ALL the tables are finished being used at the same time, with the exception of overtime sudden death play during the 30 minute break between rounds.

Further more, there'll be an outside area called the circle the wagons, for outdoor barbecuing, and smoking accessible through the restaurant, lounge, or OK Corral, but during major events and a cover charge is required, leaving through the front doors will require paying the cover charge each time a person leaves and wants re-entry. No food or drinks will be allowed in the OK Corral, with the exception of the players to have a refreshment at their table. All bathrooms in the OK Corral will have an attendee as to hand out hand towels, and maintain the bathrooms in the best possible mannor. There will be no drinking bar persay, as all customers will recieve their requested drinks the same way in which they'll recieve their food, from a Gun Slingers representative also known as your waitress, as they will be held 100 % responsible for your service needs, but will also have the full authority to restrict a customers acess to alchole if necessary, or to ask a customer to leave the premises if needed, as all employee's will be considered to be a part of the Gunslinger Saloon restaurant, lounge, and Event Center management team. There will be cameras linked to the world by way of the internet so as to give the world watching, a full inside view of the facilities at all times during open hours. The waitress staff will constantly showing the world the food they're serving as well as what time of the year it is by the uniforms they're wearing, such as for the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day,...ect...but will always be closed Dec 23-26 for Christmas and the staff Christmas party before the world tournaments start up again Dec 28-30

A major event center hosting the biggest and best world class pool tournaments there has ever been is just ONE of the things arong with pool, which is why we roll pool tables in and out of casinos and convention centers, and are NOT in a position to give the world viewing audience what they truly want and will pay for if available, organized, short time frame, on time, best of the best players on the planet, as well as the best amateur players there are, the hometown favourites to a lot of people in their corners of the world....organized and fair rules designed NOT to hold back a players EARNED skills....directly into the hands of the viewers by way of cell phone or computer.

That is why Pool don't need TV or CABLE to be seen, therefore no adds to have to skip through, only advertisers that want to sell a product that makes sense, is willing to talk directly to the viewers, and pay the rights to do so by helping support this game and turn it into a real sport as a whole instead of by sponsoring individual players, which does nothing to help straighten out our past history as we have a lot to live up to today if we want to create a change for the better.

Niki is the prime cancer date for sponsorship and advertising and the reason being is because ever shoe manufacturer there is makes shoes for every reason in the world, except for the reason pool needs shoes as well as factory workers and in many other jobs around the world......to just simply STAND in all day long on concrete without moving around hardly at all. Factory workers go out and buy ergonomic mats to stand on so that by the end of the day they're not walking like they're crippled. I can't tell you how many pool tables I've worked on that were sitting on a concrete floor, then after 5 or 6 hours of that left me feeling crippled as well. So you see, there IS a need for Niki to get involved in this sport, because we don't have the correct shoes to play pool for hours upon hours, day after day without paying the price for standing on concrete everyday.

I agree. But if a Nike advertising/promotions team doesn't see a large enough benefit to sponsoring pro pool players, we'll never see it. I don't think the seedy side of pool has much to do with our lack of non-industry sponsors. It's all about marketing potential.

I have a pair of Doc Martens that I specifically where when playing pool for hours. Great comfort.

Stp thinking sponsoring the Pro players and think more about sponsoring the sport as a whole. I guarantee you, the Pro players in the 3 year are going to be the best on the planet, while the first year pro's with the exception of a few of the best, are all going to miss making the cut to Pro, so as pool evolves, so will the players, and so will the sport.

A few thoughts without elaborating too much.

Pool needs to be in the Olympics.

Pool needs a universal handicapping system where players get a card and have to get tested a prescribed amount of times per year. The card costs a certain amount and the tester makes money and some of it gets kicked to the governing body. Players can not play in a tournament unless they have a card. A governing body of pool needs to generate funds and this is one way.

Streaming is the future of pool. Let's face it watching pool in a pool room is not that much fun and arena like settings are not really economically feasible at this point in the game. I think Kozoom is the best in the business for live streaming. I paid 84 euro for the year and get a multitude of world class events. Also they are archived for future views. Also for example at The European Championships they had 20 tables live streamed and I could switch to any table I wanted to.

Don't discount the gambling aspect of pool. It will never go away. It has always been here and always will be. Figure out a way to make it work. I think pool would be perfect for pari-mutuel betting just like say Jai-Alai. Players could actually make a living doing something like this. Oh it's fixed you say? They still have it every night at the casinos and OTBs.

Another aspect of gambling is that just look how there is an at least one episode in countless sit coms where someone gets hustled and then that character gets bailed out by the grandma or the uncle. I know for a fact there is one in The Brady Bunch and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Point is its not as damaging as people think.

Gambling equals drama. People love DRAMA!

Think outside the box like other growing sports did. Learn from them and how they marketed their product. Pool has a ton of drama and personality. Marketed the right way and it could be huge. What is that right way I'm not sure. Look at poker for example. Without the those hole cams it is nothing. The guy that invented those hole cams is in the poker hall of fame. Maybe miking up the players is a start.

Another thought. Better statistics for pool. Maybe putting RFIDs in pool balls could generate some new stats. How far the cue ball traveled on one shot or how far one player moved his cue ball vs his opponent and then if there is any win loss correlation to that stat. Many more to think about. Use new technology to come up with new ideas.

Let me expand a little more on my plans, Airway Heights, WA. is 10 minutes west of the Spokane International Airport. Lots of hotels in the area, but not much going on in hotel rentals in the winter months as this area is not considered a big industrial growth area, hell you can rent a studio apt in Spokane for $250 a month...LOL and if you look around you can find 3 bd apartments for $600 a month.

So picture this, restaurant called Gunslingers Saloon restaurant & Event center. The restaurant theme is based on the old west, 16oz NY steak dinner is called the Wyatt Earp, the half pound burgers are called the Pat Garrett burgers, but the variety is like that of a Red Robin, and the 1/4 pounders are the Billy the Kids burgers. The monster tacos and buritos are the Pancho Villa's, and the skinless chicken breast with rice pilaf and the vegetables are the Annie Oakley and so on an so on. The lounge has 8 Diamond 7ft bar tables and is a major supporter as well as play off location for the BCA, APA, TAP and world open bar table champiinships. The event center is another 30,000 sqft of room housing 64 9ft Diamond ProAms, bleacher seating, and major big screen Tv's with some of the matchs taking place being shown on them as well, tbis room is called.... the OK corral where the shoot outs take place, and is NOT open to the public at any time unless there is an event taking place. The reason for this is because it's also the multi purpose room, meaning that when major bar table championships are taking place, all the 9fts are moved into storage replaced by 7ft Diamond bar tables, under the same 4 cameras linked to the internet for live viewing per table, for the $4.95 a day viewership fee, once again, you're looking at world participants, therefore World viewership. And for the record Chinese 8-ball could be played in this event center as well by simply replacing the diamond rails with Chinese 8-ball rails, as well as straight rail Billiards, on a world stage. Viewership becomes the sponsors, which then invites the right advertiser's, to want to put their names on certain world class tournaments, such as the Niki world 10 ball championships, remember now....that covers 4 skill level divisions. This event center is supported by the pool rooms around the world creating skill level testing, classification of players in their regions of the world, in house tournaments to send their local representative players to the worlds finals. It don't even matter if an area don't have a pool room so to speak, take Sheridan Wyoming for example. No 9ft Diamond to skill test on, but a bar there has 12 Valley bar tables, not a problem if a home owner bought a 9ft Diamond with all his buddies pitching in, then everyone can take and submit their skill level testing scores....and yes, all skill level testing has to be able to be viewed live by an official from the world tournament organization. Then, even though there's no 9ft pool room available, qualifying tournaments to determine the representatives of this area of the world can still be held on the bar tables, with the understanding that in the world 10 ball championships as an advance or intermediate player, they will be playing on 9ft Diamonds in the finals playoffs.

And, yes, there's a lot more to this game plan.

What would the monthly nut be on this place?

What would the monthly nut be on this place?

That depends, the event room is closed 24/7 unless there's an event taking place and the restaurant & lounge would support itself with great food and service second to none. I'd bet a Red Robin restaurant spends at a minimum a 100k a month in expenses and turns a good profit on top of that.
