Extension advice?

Burn all jump cues

I need a good cue extension for a Viking and Dale Perry. I have a cheap plastic one but I hate it…it wobbles too much. Any one you would recommend?

I played on bar tables all my life and hardly ever even used a bridge (try and find one in some of the bars I frequented). But now as my younger wife pointed out the other night, I can't get in those positions anymore. I need the extension for the cue only I might point out. Thank you. Johnnyt

Benfica is selling the Hager extension for $20. I just ordered one from him. From all accounts it's just about the best or close to it. Check the Wanted/Sell forum.

I've used the Hagar, the Tony Ryan and the Cue Reach. They all work fine for me.

I have never had ANYTHING close to as incredible as a LONGONI.... It is amazing and after it hooks to your stick, the piece you hold mimmicks holding your actual cue. That thing has won me and saved me more money than anything I have ever used! This is the one, trust me on this one! ;)

another vote for the longoni, best extension ever! great mechanism to grip the cue and nice diameter as hammed mentioned (same as cue butt). some people have said that it scratches their cue, but i don't see how it's possible and i've never had it scratch anything.

If you use it correctly it will not scratch your butt but I would suspect if you were very careless it could. If you like shooting with your cue by itself, attach a longoni and you won't know the difference! Man, I need them to sponsor me.... lol!

How much does it weigh> I'd like to just leave it on or make one myself. Whats the lightest wood? Johnnyt

JT:

You might want to also check out the Tony Ryan series of cue extensions:

http://thetonyryan.com/

They're made of wood, good quality construction, and fit very snugly -- no wobbling whatsoever. (In fact, removing them from your cue makes a noticeable [and funny] "fop!" sound.) I own one of these, and if you've a decent-size cue case (e.g. a 3x6 or a 4x8), it will fit in one of the butt slots and not interfere with the placement of other butts or shafts. It won't easily fit inside a 2x4, though -- at least the ones I've tried -- but YMMV.

Hope this is helpful!

I had all the extensions out there... Tony Ryan (falls apart - stuff gets unglued), Longoni scratched a high end Carmeli and a Scruggs I owned due to plastic interior not being well protected.
The Hager extension might not be the fanciest but it is the most effective and does not scratch a cue, period. After the Hager I would use a screw on like a Mezz or a Cuetec if you play with any of those brands or if you have a custom cue just have your cuemaker put a quick release in the butt and make an extension for you.
I am sold out but I am taking orders for the next batch. Late next week I will be getting the new batch of extension from Hager. Pm me if interested.

What he said. Longoni is the best.

BENFICA:

Interesting, concerning the bolded stuff above. The unit I have is a solid piece of wood (1-piece), and there's only two things not native to the wood itself -- the outside plastic ring, and the interior foam. What parts "came unglued"? I wonder if the unit you received was a cheap knock-off or defect or something? (I say this, because those ones sold at shows and expos often are -- I notice a difference between the one I have, and the ones on display.)

I've had my Tony Ryan for two years, and even with consistent use, nothing's fallen apart. Still grips tightly onto the cue even after all this time, and haven't had to glue anything back on. It might also be, perhaps, that when not in use, my Tony Ryan is always inside my case (vs being strapped to the outside of the case or tucked in a partially-zipped pocket, as I see other players who have one do) and is thus well protected.

But alas, I have my tube of wood glue ready in the unlikely case my Tony Ryan becomes a leper. :)

Thoughts?

The plastic cap and the foam on one of the sides became unglued and I also had the carrying bag. I had bought it from Seyberts and got it replaced and sold it as soon as I got it.

i had a tony ryan and i had the same problem, the ring and the foam fell out after the first couple time of using it. the thing was too damn tight as well, it was a struggle to put the extension on and take it off. haven't tried a hager but they look workable and a good price. i have a mezz cue and the screw in extensions are great! i wish more cues had an extension joint!

I almost pulled the trigger with my credit card to buy a Tony Ryan ex, but the free shiping turned out to be $6. It's not the $6, it's the point with me. I e-mailed him and of course no response. I'll make my own screw on. Johnnyt
