Eyeglasses Designed for Pool PLayers

The only ones, I could find were from UK, but you can buy them through US ebay. $70US + $17US shipping. You will have to get lenses separately. Not sure about any US taxes on imports.

Got mine through Canadian ebay also from UK.
They are still being shipped, so I cannot speak to the quality but I will report once they get here in about a week or so. Anyone thinking of getting them may as well wait. :)
I just wanted to follow up on your glasses. Did you get them? What do you think?

prescription

related observation from my recent past (with contact lenses)..... I have been struggling for years with having double vision or blurred edges when shooting pool. I have tried all the dominant eye solutions, head position, etc. .... until a few weeks ago when I went for my annual eye exam and started asking some in-depth questions.... to make a long story short.... when getting your prescription make sure and get the LOWEST possible prescription that still allows you to pass the 20/20 test

edit... duh... since rx are negative numbers... by lowest I meant closest to zero.... err to the side of closer distances

Clarrifying some facts

:):):)Mr. Curran,

That is a very good article and well written. As the owner of
Billiard-Eyeglasses.com I would like to clarify a few of your statements.

Anti-reflection coatings are as you say an OPTION. They are recommended, but not absolutely necessary. Most of the people purchasing Billiard Eyeglasses have actally NOT taking the AR option and are very satisfied.

It should also be noted that my pricing is marked as CANADIAN DOLLARS and, in general, this will mean an advantage to my USA customers based on US dollar exchange rates. As of today the exchange rate is app 25% which would mean that a $220.00 Can pair would cost a USA customer only $165.00 US. A basic pair of BILlIARD EYEGLASSES at $179.95 would be $135.00 US. The basic pair is ....a metal rimles spring hingde frame, your single vision plastic lenses,Anti-Scratch coating, UV filter, Micro Cleaning cloth, hard case AND shipping. A tremendous value for your sport.

The reason why we ask for certain measurements, is that the placement of the optical centers of the lenses is important for your vision factor. ANY licensed optometrist or opticain who makes ANY TYPE of eyeglasses without these measurements, is causing harm to your eye sight.

Finally , it is incorrect that we do not offer any warranty. My BILLIARD EYEGLASSES are fully warranted against, prescription remakes, defective products AND non-adapation to the BILLIARD EYEGLASSES. As we know these are custom made products and in the case of a non-adaptation, we do charge a 30% remake fee. This is to cover expenses for our fabrication and to eliminate the few number of internet "flakes" that simply order a pair, try them once and send them back. Thankfully I have only had two or three situations like that.

Again I thank you for bringing forth this information about eyeglasses for pool etc. As the population ages, there will be a greter need for Rx eyeglasses in all sports. And as we all know, INFORMATION IS IMPORTANT. :):):)

I have posted this each time I see a thread on eyeglasses for pool. I modified them myself. Oversized glasses don't really solve the problems with pool glasses. The lenses need to sit properly in front of the eye when you are bent over shooting. You don't want to be looking through the lenses at an angle. Mine sit high on the nose and are angled so you look properly through the lenses just as you do with regular glasses in everyday ware.

There used to be glasses made in England for snooker with a second hinge so you could angle the lenses as you bent over. I have not been able to find them again but what I made does basically the same thing.

I too have modified my glasses like this, about 2001 is when I first did this to my frames. I have passed this great modification off to many players that wear glasses.

Try it, you will like it...

Good luck

Still, if they do, there is no warranty that covers proper fit.

Actually, the Canadian from Quebec does have good warranty.

I bought a pair from him. He does, or at least, used to read AZB. When he had read that I was a bit uncomfortable with mine, and wished that I had gotten the Progressive lenses,
he sent me a PM, told me to send them back and he would redo them for Free.

All he wanted was a little more comprehensive eye check from my Dr. so he could adjust them properly.

So, really can't get better than that. He will work with a person until they are satisfied.

I don't know what he meant exactly by proper fit. You almost can't get that unless you are sitting in front of the person. If a person needs an adjustment, pretty much any eye glass shop will fix em up for you for nothing.

I'm very happy with the pool glasses I got from Bill Curran. First, I found an old time eye doctor. We sat there for over forty minutes with his big case of lenses. Suddenly he found a lens for my weak eye where I could better that I could 30 years ago. We found the best possible refraction for 2-12 feet.

I sent Bill Curran a picture of my face with a standard business card in front of my nose. I had to lighten the photo so he could see the exact position of my pupils. He had software for computing the size of the lens (with use of the business card). The lens are lightweight polycrystalline. They are contoured with the focal point placed high on the lens. When I bend over to line up a shot, I am look directly perpendicular through the focal point.

I think if your going to invest in pool glasses you should first find a good old time eye doctor.

I have had 3 or 4 pair from the place in Canada, and the last one didn't work. I sent them back 3 times with 2 more eye test for him, and he continued to put the stall on me. His lip service is great until I had a problem, so I called him and told him to keep the glasses.
Then I typed in snooker glasses, England and there are many choices and the ones I got work fine.
