F-250 smashed through Diamond Billiards today, tough loss...

the guy might of had insurance and or assets, and the pool room does as well and might have culpability in this. so his family likely will get more from that than the donations.

Are you certain he wasn't arrested and just out on bail?

If he wan't arrested it must be because they are having difficulty proving his intent. I assume the DA is trying to get to a murder charge vs manslaughter. The guy should be eaten alive by rats. This country just lets people get away with anything. My condolences to everyone who knew Ron.

pool hall business must be better than we all know/think

Businesses have this thing called insurance. This thread is about a man losing his life because of a drunk driver and you come on here and comment about pool hall business? Am I missing something?

Good for you, Allen. A well-deserved reality check

The link gets lost in all the big, blue letters but here's a video:

The cops say it would have been irresponsible to arrest a guy who drove a truck with a BAC 5x the legal limit.

I have family in Ft. Myers and it seems that every time I visit, there is a story about police ineptitude or corruption. Saying that to arrest the shitbag would be irresponsible reeks of some kind of corruption or "old boy network, I'll keep you out of this" bullshit.

The only irresponsible thing was not throwing the f***er in jail.

Is it because he's old?
Was he hospitalized or something?

Makes no sense. He should have been shot on sight.

I suppose they didn't want to arrest him for murder or manslaughter and not be able to prove it later.

Shouldn't be too hard to prove intent. Eventually he will plea bargain to a few years...a mans life is worth a lot more than that.

I bet if he ran over some rich guy or a politicians son it would be handled differently. This country has turned to shit.

nope
I just curious that a pool had that kind of bank roll, never thought about insurance,

Who pays

The drivers insurance is responsible for damages. The halls insurance may have to sue to get it but I doubt they would fight this one.

Answering above:

1. He was never arrested.
2. He was in the hospital with MINOR superficial injuries.
3. The business does have insurance.
4. The driver also has insurance that will pay a lot as well.
5. Without overstepping, I'm sure the funding is not an issue here.
6. The city of Cape Coral even dragged their feet is during plumbing and electrical permits (as usual).
7. Yes government here is a HOT mess and always has been and it's slower than slow.
8. Diamond Billiards should be reopening in the next 2-3 weeks.

The sad aspect of this is that this didn't result from the actions of an irresponsible alcoholic, this was the result of someone who acted with intent.

If it had only resulted in damage to property it would be a better day.

Post

From what I gather... He got that drunk there, they over served him and when he got way out of line from over intoxication the bar kicked him out...
It's horribly sad a life was lost and several injured because of his actions.
Although his actions would of never happened if they would of cut him off nicely and kindly got him a ride home.

The bar kicked him out and allowed him to get behind the wheel and operate his truck after they knew damn well he was black-out drunk.
He was 5x the legal limit.... He had should of never got to that point when all this happened....
Both parties prob will end up getting the book thrown at them. All the precautions have been in place to prevent a incident like this is teathered to a liquor license by a city official.
Nothing good is going to come of the sad story...

Horrible tragic thing to happen.

He was drunk on arrival and grabbed the barmaid chest. He was thrown out and then later accidentally ran through the front window at 50 mph. They tried to get a murder charge but only charged him with manslaughter. This was an intentional act. Justice will never be served here.

I think some of the message above is quoted but I'd like to make sure this is very cut and dry, HE WAS SERVED THREE BEERS THERE.

My condelences to all those who were struck by this terrible tragedy. It's clear from the comments that a lot of people are displaying "just world" bias.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-world_hypothesis
It is clear that the guy was not overserved, he acted out and was thrown out. Nobody deserved what happened next. Whether he did it on purpose or not, the responsibility and blame lies with the driver. He chose to drink, he chose to get behind the wheel, he rammed his car through a pool hall. He deserves all that is coming to him, and being 75 in jail with the DT's is going to be rough. The victims and the victims families do not deserve the unjust blame being put upon the people working at the place. It is unbecoming of Azbilliards and anyone to let this thrashing go unanswered.

Here is a link to the cops http://www.capecops.com/newsroom/ about this not sure the link is going to hold as it has no identiufiers in it so here is the text with the charges.

(September 11, 2015)- Today, Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigators arrested William Gulliver, W/M, DOB 07-09-1940, the driver in the July 20th fatality crash that occurred at Diamond Billiards, on a warrant for the following charges:

1 count DUI Manslaughter, 2nd Degree Felony
1 count DUI w/Serious Bodily Injury, 3rd Degree Felony
3 counts of DUI causing Damage to Persons or Property, 1st Degree Misdemeanor
1 count of Battery, 1st Degree Misdemeanor
Last week, the Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator completed the investigation and submitted an application for an arrest warrant. Today, the Major Crash Investigator received notice that the warrant had been approved and was active.

The Major Crash Investigator Contacted the LCSO Warrants Division for assistance. Deputies Made contact with Gulliver at his home on Pine Island this afternoon at 6:45 PM. Gulliver was turned over to the custody of the Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator, Corporal Andrew Satterlee, and he was transported to the Lee County Jail.

I can say that this unfortunate event has already brought the billiards community together here more than before the accident.

We are all very excited for Diamond Billiards to have their Grand are-Opening which will be very soon.

I had only known Ron for a short time as a friend and I wish I had known him much longer.

I truly hope Ron's family gets some sort of closure on the untimely and unfair way he was taken from us all.

RIP Ron

I HOPE THEY THROW THE BOOK AT WILLIAM GULLIVER.
