Fair price for used GC?

I'm looking at a used GC tomorrow. Assuming that the table is in good shape is $900 a fair price? I don't know which GC it is, the seller has the assembly instructions and it just says "Gold Crown Billiard Table."

Thanks

Not enough facts on your part to answer your question in good faith.

I would seriously consider taking a good table mechanic with you. Should be one in New York! Or are you rural N.Y.? May not be possible on short notice. Remember you will probably keep this thing a long time. $100 to a mechanic might be smart money. They range from free, come and get it. Or a few grand for a table in great shape. The mech would probably waive the money if you let him deliver, set up and make necessary repairs. Some lucky people get em almost free in great shape and some pay too much for a table with lots of issues. If the table is still set up and you are a good player you may be able to shoot balls and see lots of things! If it's apart you really need that mech. Personally I played on my GC for months before purchase, so I knew it played right. You will spend money someday on improvements so might as well bite the bullet and get it set up and fixed first go round. Don't forget there are a boatload of tables coming into the market due to the economy and pool halls closing. For not much more you can get a Diamond, the greatest playing table in the world, that just doesn't bank very well. That comment should wake up RKC!! LOL.

Thanks for the responses.

I don't have a lot of details besides what I've said. It sounds like the rails and cloth were replaced in '85 when it was delivered to this person's home. I have no idea how long rails last but the seller has suggested that the cloth needs replacing (and I don't doubt that).

I'm looking at it tonight and can't get a table mechanic there. The table is still set-up so I plan on playing it a bit.

Update:
The table's in great shape overall; much better than the barboxes and other used tables I've looked at that people wanted more $$$ for. The cloth definitely needs replacing but I was expecting that to begin with. The rails are all right; for my ability I wouldn't really notice anyway. I got it for $750.

That's a good price for a GC in good shape. Now you have to figure out the model #. Post a few pics and someone will let you know.

$750 sounds legit if the table is in good condition. I don't know about your area, but I shopped around a little when buying mine and I found a few in that price range, but passed on them because they were pretty used. I finally stumbled across the table I ended up buying and I paid ~$1200 for it I believe.

I spent $1100 on the rails, cloth, calibrating the rails and extending them to make 4 1/2" pockets. Now I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this table and for a total of $2300.00 there's no way in hell I could be happier. The table plays better than any other I have played on. I should note that I haven't played on a Diamond yet. Until I bought this table I was away from pool altogether for the past few years.
