Here is the top USA list after getting in all the recent CSI events including US Open 10-Ball and US Open 8-Ball as well as the Kamui & Tiger Challenge events and also the recent Friday-Night Fight matchups. About 35,000 games have gone in over the last few days.

First four players followed by a 10-point gap are Van Boening, Archer, Dechaine, and Morris. These four also appear on the world top-35 list

The next six are all within 5 points of one another: Bergman, Putnam, McMinn, Strickland, and Deuel.

Its too bad vegas quit making odds on pool. You could be rich. I cant imagine anyone making lines where you couldnt find a safe bet by using your system.

Here. In case anyone wants to actually read the f*cking thing.

I know this was explained before, but IMO no one should be on there if they haven't played in certain events and played in a number of $10,000 events.

I know you did a lot of work on this, IMO too much credit it given to part time players here in the U.S.. Johnnyt

I think it is important to make a distinction here. People may want to generate lists that give specific credit to high tournament finishes, that give specific credit to playing lots of big events, that give specific credit to head-to-head records, that give specific credit to finishes in major international events. That's all fine.

We are not suggesting people or organizations don't do that. But we don't do that.

If someone shows up to occasional tournaments and tends to beat the shortstops by MORE than, say, Your Favorite Mid-level US Pro(YFMLUP) does and loses to the world champions by LESS than YFMLUP loses to the world champions and wins more games against other mid-level pros than does YFMLUP, that person will be rated higher than YFMLUP.

Are you even aware of what the Fargo Rating System is?

Very interesting info. That's a huge gap between SVB and the next highest. What odds does that predict for an Archer-SVB match, say race to 11?

Is there any chance that older tournaments could be added into the data? Is older data reduced in importance by the system? It would be interesting to have rankings versus year going back to the 1930s but the data might be hard to find.

OK, AZB, how many of the top 35 USA American players have you beaten in tournament play?

That SVB-Archer match would be 2-1. I asked him about the older data, and here is his post:

Yes, it does. There is an exponential decay of the value of a game toward a player's rating such that a three-year old game is worth half of one today and a six-year-old game is worth a quarter.

Mike,

Can these ratings be used for a ball spot handicap tournament? If so...

A. How do you determine someone's ranking if they aren't listed on the site?
B. How often do you adjust rankings? After each match, or each tournament?

Mike,

I'm glad the Fargo Rating System is going mainstream now. I hoped it gets picked up by all league and tournament systems eventually.

Great work,
Dave

Here you go.
Wow. I had no idea Shane was that far ahead. Would it be stealing to get down even money on similar matches? ;) Of course he did have a practice run of 305 at the 14.1 tournament which is not bad for someone who doesn't ever play the game.

The cool thing is you, Bob Jewett, understand this better than most.
