Can slow player be the best?

I was just thinking only fast or delibrate players can reach high up the ladder and turn into greats e.g Earl/Efren. Were there any slow players who were best in their era?

It is hard to define a slow player - perhaps who takes time even on obvious shots, clean/tap table frequently, take out balls from pocket (if there ar any) everytime they shoot, Survey the tables from all side. basically torture to watch.

Guess someone one or two pace slower then Ralf Souqet?

I saw Johnny's old matches on youtube and in olden days when he was at peak he was fast isn't it?

He has certainly slowed down now a days.

I would say same for very fast players like Drago, Rodney, Jayson
Exceptions ate Ronnie O, Alex Higgins

Frank Taberski was very slow....and they couldn't beat him.....he's in the HOF.
10 world titles...
Irving Crane won world titles in four decades....very slow....in HOF

I didn't think Irving Crane was particularly slow. Maybe it depended on how he was shooting. The video of his 150 and out against Balsis is less than an hour (for the run itself) with maybe only commercials removed.

Walter Lindrum played very quickly and about twice as well as his competition. There is a story in his biography (by Andrew Ricketts) that early in his career he was discussing his game with a possible backer. The backer told him that he was better off playing quickly because in long matches he would be on his feet for hours -- the matches sometimes went on for weeks -- and it would be better to score twice as many points per hour.

so he was scoring at the rate of 1500 points per hour which was probably somewhere between 500 and 750 shots per hour as the shots at that game are typically 2 or 3 points each.

What a player
Lindrum is a once in lifetime freak arguably best cue sports player ever
I think if he had played snooker or pool (which he would undoubtedly consider low level in terms of skill) competitively today , he would be hard to beat

Comparison....Lou Butera has run a hundred in ten minutes....
...albeit in his own room, the House of Champions, in practice.
 
If I could watch any two players in history, it would be Walter Lindrum and. Harold Worst .
 
TAR should do a match with Two Extremely Fast Rotation players.

For Sure.... there's one Canadian and one European that fit this description Perfectly....BOTH play faster than Shaw :eek:
 
I always thought Danny Harriman was a tad slow.
Pagulayan drives me crazy when he plays One Pocket. He'll get down on a shot, then jump up and recalculate. S.........low. :smile:
 
Slow - Nick Varner and Buddy Hall(after he hit 40).
Fast - Mike Sigel, Keith, and Pretty Boy Floyd.

A player left me in at snooker once....all the balls are open.
...I was surveying the table...my opponent asked " What the hell you lookin' at?"
I replied " Some people got nothing to look at.".....I got out.
He said " That's the last time I'll ever say that."

Anybody with a stroke can make a ball.....but it's gotta be in context to play well.
