Feature IPT Article Coming in Details Magazine

I'm writing a feature piece about Kevin Trudeau and the IPT for Details magazine, one of the largest men's magazines in the country. I would like to hear from players, promoters, sponsors, IPT staff, as well as from Deno Andrews and Kevin Trudeau.

My aim is to write a balanced, accurate piece, and to do so I need to hear from everyone as soon as possible.

My writing about pool has appeared in Details, Esquire, and Best American Sports Writing. My pool game is less impressive. My best finish ever is 84th place in the banks division at the DCC in 2003.

Until proven otherwise don't confuse anything you get from IPT MGMT as fact.
 
You might contact Mike Panozzo (editor) from Billiards Digest out of Chicago. He probably has the condensed version of the issues and you may also contact Jerry Forsyth, I think he's with Pool and Billiard Magazine, he also posts on this forum. If you go to the World Pool Championships section he's been chatting with Jay Helfert "Your Man in Manila" post, as they both are there covering the WPA World Championships. Hope this helps.

What's to say? Kevin Trudeau said the funds were locked up for two years in advance. Now, he's 60 days late on Reno payments, and embarassed the pocket billiard community by as much as saying that a large percentage of the professional players are ungrateful beggars.

He won't give any details on what he is supposedly doing to fix the IPT and get the players their money, other than "We are closing the deal SOON, good things on the way!" and other balderdash.

I think most of us believe he is going to close up shop on the IPT without paying the players for Reno. If he does pay, I think it will be less than 15% of monies owed.

I don't know if you've been keeping up with the IPT, but in all reality, if you do an article on the IPT, it might be a bit embarassing to have them file bankruptcy within a month of it being published.

First, Deno & KT won't reply to you. Once you lie you have to lie on top of your last lie, and it gets to confusing to follow along. Especially for the person doing the lying.

Second, JD--I hope you print an accurate detail but to be honest, I have my doubts. Before you submit it, let me and Jay Helfert proof read it.
 
Hey people,

I don't think Mr. Dolan knows what's been going on. A gentleman's magazine is going to be doing an article about a new sports competition offering lots of money, and the hustling/gambling life, NOT a failed billiard tour. He might have read about the IPT back in golden times and thought it's still going strong.

The only one you need to interview is KT and Deno, but I don't think if you had a gun to their head it would do any good. Everyone else has stated their opinion & more have stated facts. Spend a few hours reading and then get back to us.

Hmm.. I just have to ask the question, since I know others will be wondering too.

If you know the IPT story, then what is the interest for the readers of the magazine you are writing for? What's the angle on the story? Kevin Trudeau running another scam? A struggling dream?

Those are the only two angles I can see the story coming from, if written with honesty. And I don't even think #2 is all that honest.

And if the story is about KT running another scam, it seems more appropriate for a business/sports magazine, not a gentleman's magazine.

Just wondering if you could clarify these questions..

Hey JD, where do you play pool? A nice story might be about league play - APA, BCA, ... This would certainly help promote billiards. I think billiards needs a good story about league fun, team play, balance of men and women. A well written article would help all of billiards.

I hope that the story is in a gentlemen's magazine such as Playboy or............... Hustler.

Details magazine has hired me to write a piece about the IPT (I wrote a piece for Details a few years ago about the U.S. Open One Pocket Championship). I don't start writing a piece with an "angle." I do think that the players--and everybody involved with this thing--deserve to have their voices hear by a wider audience.

I hope you didn't take my usage of the word "angle" as anything questioning your literary professionalism. It was only meant to ask what aspect of the IPT were you righting about? "Tour giving pro pool players a chance at a better" or "Kevin Trudeau" is a scumbag.

Yes< i am going to extreme ends of the spectrum, but you get my point.

(FWIW, Dalton Trumbo would kicked this lilly Trudeau's @55!!)
