I see they changed the rules for the rack and started a new game race to 50.
Has Alex' side paid off for yesterday and how much?
Also how much in the middle for this new game?

It is right there in the thread about the match, post #85. Further details are offered in subsequent posts.

I missed that, thanks

This clouds the water with my big action. I had Alex +5 games for $40.

I wonder what’s fair settlement is? I’m sure I can afford it, I just want to be fair.

Any ideas?

Thx

The way I see it, Alex came into tonight trailing by 10 games. In order for you to win the bet, Alex needs to win by at least 5 games from here. In other words, there is no winner or loser yet regarding your bet.

I can live with that, as long as who I bet with can.

Thanks for your input, I’ll see what he says. It’s such a small bet-nobody’s gonna get hurt.

Thx again

What makes the most sense in my opinion and what most people tend to agree with is that any significant changes to the game invalidates the bet. You both bet on something that no longer exists, so how could the bet continue to exist when what you bet on no longer even exists? That said, if you both mutually agree to something else then obviously that works as an alternative.

You think pool players wont argue over what "significant changes" are?

Everybody knows that which rack/racking method is being used is significant. A better way of stating it might be that any changes to any of the match parameters/conditions nullifies the bet.

Imo, either the bet is off, or you do what they did, which is pro-rate. So you would pay a small percentage of the $40.

Then going forward, it’a a new set with new length and rules, and therefore you make a brand new bet. The old bet is over. It does not continue in any form in this new set.

Imo:)

I thought about that too

It’s a $40 bet, so I’m cool with what ever. These multiple day sessions I’d only bet small with no prenuptial agreement. As is the case here. I’d never bet meaningful $ without a stipulation. That’s certain.

Thx

I made a bet to enjoy the sweat.
As soon as they started today I learned of the changes.
I immediately contacted who I have the bet with and we agreed
to keep it going as if nothing changed.
Just total up the 3 days totals, no big deal for me or him, (our bet was less than 10k).

Hey Fatboy, sorry for the delayed reply.

Tell you what, based on the score I'll forget the idea of Alex making up the 10 game deficit. We'll just keep our bet even on this race to 50. Alex is down 5 so he'll need to make up ground anyway. I'd rather just have winner wins at this point. Good luck and enjoy!

My prediction - whoever insisted on the change will get the cash and the opponent should have refused to continue. Never give up an advantage to a world class player.

So, what you're saying is Alex will win tonight's set by 6 racks.

Good Luck with that.

One of the worst/best fights my playing partner and I ever got into was over a 50 cent per player bet.

They stiffed us for a buck total. My partner didn't take kindly to being stiffed.

Were you thinking it was Alex that asked for the change? It was actually Ghorst that wanted the change.

Yes, I assumed it was Alex.

And, that makes absolutely no sense. Why would he want Alex to buy out, when he would have coasted to a 20 game victory.

Something doesn’t jive.
