The folks that where able to attend 2011 DCC, and that paid $25.00 to have access to the AZ Room. Please give me your feedback or opnion of the AZ Room at the Derby. Any comments or thoughts about the manner it was run, any problems with access to a table??

AZ/One Pocket Members Room

I attended the DCC all 9 days. Normally I'm not much of a whiner, but this year I was disappointed with the AZ/One pocket Room for the following reasons:

1. When I arrived at the room on Friday, January 21st, the door was locked.

2. While the one pocket challenge was going on, I was not able to use the room (3 to 4 days)

3. When I did get to the room, I did not find anyone in charge, the name tags were unavailable, there was no one to ask for assistance, I never did get a name tag.

4. Early Saturday, January 29th, another disappointment the room was closed, I was told that everyone had left in the a.m.

Eventually I did get to meet some AZ/One pocket members, but not nearly enough, for everyone that I did not get to meet, maybe next year, but I'm sorry to say that it won't be in the AZ/One pocket room.

not whining a bit, but I never did get a nametag like I have in previous years. It was a pleasure to shoot with/rack for you a few games though John.

I stated in another thread, it was however very convenient to hit a few balls or play a couple of games before playing somewhere else though. I'd pay again if only to make sure those who played in the room more than I did, have a place to play with and meet other forums members.

I agree it was messed up, I have been to 6 or 7 DCC. No one in charge of the room. Never was able to get on a table in 5-6 days. I think someone should step up and explain why the AZ room was not as advertised.

I think it's very cool that an AZ room has the support from Greg. The concept of having a place that AZ'ers can meet each other and mix with the pro pool world is a great way to get all kinds of people together and generate some good talk about pool, the tournament, and those that support it.

This year, it seemed more than any previous year, an overwhelming number of non members knew the tables were free and were rudely bullying members away. I would have thought the changes in the location of some of the rooms would have helped, but it didn't seem to at all.

The AZ room, when it works, is a win-win for everyone. I'm still friends with many people that I met there for the first time, especially after chatting with them on AZ. This year, I didn't get a chance to say hello to anyone new. It was as if asking for a screen name could start a fight.

Even with it's current location, I think the room could serve it's purpose well and be the place that it was meant to be for everyone involved, with only a few minor adjustments.

There may have been a good reason that it took so long this year to announce that there was going to actually be an AZ room, but this year was more late than ever and I believe that may have undermined enthusiasm somewhat. The earlier the announcement the better.

The system for distributing the badges desperately needs to be changed. Each badge must be either directly handed or mailed to the member in some fashion. If this means an early cutoff of donations, so be it. I don't think anyone serious about attending has a problem with that. Leaving the badges in the room unattended does not work.

Last but not least, bring back the "Room Goons". I think special badges should be made for someone who volunteers to be a room goon. In exchange for their "protective services" :) their playing privileges should be given to them free of charge. I might also stipulate that to qualify as a room goon, you must have at minimum quantity (TBD) of posts either on AZB or OP.org.

I had the good fortune of sitting down for the first time with Greg and a couple other AZ'er last year and I don't think anyone will ever meet a more enthusiastic supporter of the game of pool. DCC is a terrific event to attend because it uniquely blends so many different aspects of the pool world together. The AZ room, when successfully operated, compliments that vision. Let's make this work! :D

T - you shoulda played me a game of 1P instead of letting me eat those rubbery wings! The beer was good though.

When I arrived and first made it to the AZ room, I looked ALL OVER for the name badges....they were no where to be found. I think I did ask everyone playing in the room their screennames, but I recognized very few (never seeing a post from over 50% of them). While that is fine, since I don't participate in every part of the forums, how was I to know if they didn't just make something up?? I don't, and they didn't know if I was full of it....no tags.

I likely didn't spend $25 worth of time shooting in there, but like I stated before, I'd certainly pay it again just for the opportunity to meet other AZers....

Rusty...I was in the room with you and I had a badge....just saying

Well while I don't agree with everything everyone has said, this years az/1p room was not as good as in the past. There are many reasons for that but I think we all need to focus on making it better for future years.
I would to like to personally get more involved over this coming year and work to make this better for all of us. Steve has been the one person holding this room together since others stepped away from the room for their own reasons. I will trying to contact Steve in the coming weeks and start the planning for next year. I had the badges made up that we have been used for the last few years and I have enough to cover the room for years to come.
I went to the room many times to check on it and most of the time it was empty. On a few occasions people where in the room and I did ask a few people to leave. I never had an issue playing when I wanted to, other than on the last day when the room was locked.
I have many ideas on making the room better just as others do. So I will take everyone's input and work with Steve. I think we may need to have a small group of people involved to help Steve out with the things that go into making this room happen. Hope to see everyone next year.

You more than likely arrived BEFORE I did. On Wednesday, I was told the badges were there on Tuesday, and they were probably moved into one of the drawers or cabinets. They were in neither. Like I said, I am not really complaining, since I had no troubles playing if I wanted to, but I had no idea if there were others that played that didn't have badges, or if they just wandered in to play free pool. With or without the badge though, it is $25 I will spend again.....

You need a card lock like they use for the hotel rooms, paying members get a card and have access.

I too looked for the cards with no luck. Unfortunately, I don't think a card lock will work. The room is not big enough on the one side. There are many times you are standing in the doorway to make your shot.

I only come down for the 9-ball, but I would be happy to be a "room goon" in the late night hours and I would still pay the $25. This was year was the first time I have not seen anyone, at any time, watching the door. I have always seen someone at one point or another who asks if you have a badge.

Since I only come down for the 9-ball, I don't know what I would be able to do, but, I would be willing to help out with anything I may be able to do.

Trusty, I know better than to get between a dog and his bone. :D

That was very cool of you to pick up boradriver last minute on your way in through Indianapolis. Kudos to you sir!

Next year we'll get in some 1P, but you'll need to spot me 2 balls minimum.

Or I'll just get the next round. :D

Hey, great idea!
I was only able to play once for about an hour. I arrived on Wednesday. I heard that Steve had to leave so I figured thats why it didn't go as smooth as it had in years past. I was hoping if possible to get my card as a suvenier if you read this Steve. I would like to try again next year if available. Thank... Mikey
