Just watched the recent worlds event that Neils won. During the match with Orcullo, the commentator was giving a little info about Neil's.
He is totally blind in his left eye, and only has 30% of his vision in his right eye. So we have a guy who is legally blind, winning world championships....?? Doesn't seem right or possible to me, but if so, ain't nobody got shit on Neils.
I'll back him, giving the world the 7 out, if they all want to wear a eyepatch on one eye, and squint with the other, while wearing a pair of out of focus glasses

I was at DCC in '07 when he went hill-hill in final set against Luat(iirc). Niels is one of heck of grinder and really a nice guy. The vision thing just blows me away. You'd never know it other than extreme offset of his head/eye position.

That info is actually not correct. His left eye vision is about 5-10%, so yeah, he is almost blind to that eye but his right eye is all good. So basically Niels is one-eyed bandit which gives him more than enough vision for him to be able to become alfa-dog

So it is true? And only 30% vision in his good eye!!?
So much for all the threads, from old people talking about their vision as a excuse.
Just blows me away it's that bad, but he makes razor thin cuts on the ball 9ft away.
Go Neils. Nobody in the world could touch him, if he had 2 good eyes.
I'm still a little skeptical, I mean he is virtually blind....
Even a good right eye is believable, but your only good eye is 2/3rds blind....
Hell of a testament to his work ethic, and self confidence.

Makes more sense. I was just quoting the commentators

There was the coolest video of him coming to America, to work with bert, I presume.

I have never been able to find it again and will mail a pool related reward to the first person to provide link here.

He was in a hurry, from his apartment and they spliced together various footage to make a hilarious vid.

Reward.

I was there when Burt was working with Neils. Everyday as a matter of fact, for about a 3yr period. Him and Orietta were regulars, and Neils tagged along occasionally.
Followed Neils fairly close since then, and listened to Burt talk about him daily. Never once heard mention of him being blind it just kind of surprise me.

I have been a Niels fan for a long time. The Bert K training videos had an overall lesson to them in that there are no excuses. Niels was not winning championships out of the box, he has a work ethic and determination in drills and dedication of his time to the game more than any other player (maybe even more than Shane VB). Niels is an example that if you put in the effort and work, you can be a solid player.

Listening to Bert exclaim that this kid is going to be a world champion someday and it eventually happening a few years back just nails the story down so well.

Niels is a living example to all of us that it's not about excuses -- gotta get to work!

He may be blind or near in one eye but the other is good.Let's not be stupid about this.

It's like when a ball sports guy plays a good game hurt.Obviously he is not hurt that bad.If he had a compound fractured femur he wouldn't have played.

This sounds more believable to me than what the announcer said.

Exactly, Niels is perfect example that talent is overrated. Its like I said in another thread - if you took TOP100 pool pros in the world Niels would be in TOP80-100 range talent-wise (still more talent than most players but nothing extreme) but definitely TOP3 when it comes to his work ethic which gives Niels that superconsistency he has. And that extreme amount of work he does on and off the table was the main reason of his elbow injury. Niels will have to be extra careful in the future with that elbow, those imflammations have a tendency to return..
