Female Pros Are Smarter

I think the WPBA as an organization and female pros in general have shown themselves to be much smarter than the men for several reasons:

1. The women are able to work together and form a mutually beneficial governing body that, while certainly not offering the types of prize money they deserve, at least offers a consistent and dependable tour.

2. Female pros seem better at marketing themselves than the men. Allison F. with the APA, Jeanette Lee with numerous pool related products, Eva Laurence with books, TV appearances and ESPN commentary, etc.

3. The Female pros are smart enough not to show their real speed in TV matches. There's a reason that all the video you see of women playing displays skill levels below the average APA 7. They don't want to knock their action! Imagine shiny dollar signs in their eyes as they bat the seven-ball back and forth.

4. They are better with the fans. All the female pros I've met have been very personable and friendly, willing to chat and sign autographs etc. Sometimes I think the men are all just looking for an easy mark!

3.? You think the pro players are not trying their best in T.V. matches? Most of the other stuff I can agree with but this statement is just rediculous.

If you get the chance to watch the recent GenerationPool semi-final match between Johnny Archer and Ronnie Wiseman (on ESPN recently and probably will be again); let me know what you think.

The men play on television rarely enough that even they are prone to the competitive jitters. I have RARELY seen the women players play as badly as these two performed in that match. It's not to say that they are not both great players; but it is very harsh to judge a player from a rack or two of 9-ball.

You may also find it educational to get the Accu-Stats blooper tapes and "hill-hill" tapes. The male pro's are capable of great buffoonery when the pressure is on.

Women are more social than men. I think it is genetically wired, but whether genetic or cultural it is a fact. It makes it much easier to organize for a common goal. I think one or two women were "smarter" to get things going, not the whole crop of them.

I don't think so. Allen Hopkins does a pretty darn good job of marketing himself, as does Mike Massey.

As I said above women are just more social and friendly. I think it all goes back to our hunter/gatherer past. Women while they were out gathering all kinds of stuff were busy chating out of boredom, the berry bushes weren't going to run away when they heard their voices. Men out there hunting had to keep their mouths shut, socialize and tonight's supper takes it on the hoof.

#1 - What role do/did the women on the tour have in forming the WPA?

#2 - Sex sells...Anna Kournikova in her tennis days was infinitely more popular than male tennis players.

Mondale did not say that the women are tight wads but said that they are good with money matters.WPBA so far have been prudent with their buisiness matters and the Dollar.

I count 6-10 that left the tour and their not all in bottom the 15-20 either. I think this economy is catching up with a lot of them...and other things. Johnnyt

I agree, I don't think they do it on purpose, however in the past week or two, the top female players(Alison Fisher, among others)have been missing shots, that people who have never picked up a cue before, could most likely have made.

Now, ocassionally pros missing a fairly easy shot, perhaps can be due to them being used to playing on 8 footers, and the Brunston tourny addition tables have tight pockets as well, but the misses/messed up shots I have been seeing lately, were missed due to becuase, it was shot badly.

Example: Last week or so, Alison Fisher had a easy shot with a (forgot which number, I believe it was the 7) ball in the corner pocket, with the CB a foot back, but on the same angle(almost perfectly lined up). I don't know what on earth she was thinking, but she slams the CB with the speed one would expect if she was trying to break a rack, so of course the 7 goes over the pocket, and bouces off the rail.

They are not "smarter"... as in more intelligent. The problem the men have is testosterone.
