Ferrule

I like Ivor-X. It stays clean and polishes really nicely.
It's not porous and has no weave.
I have some MCB left. They are harder but do have some weave and doesn't stay as clean as Ivor-X.
The old melamine stayed clean and was harder than anything I've tried.
It did deflect a little more and had a ping to it but they were good ferrules.
I'm not too crazy about soft ferrules.

Some batches of LBM have been full of dirt and other contaminants. Nothing like putting a ferrule on, and just as you cut it down to finished size, a nice speck of dirt is visible just under the surface. :D I've also had several of them break, which really shouldn't happen with that material.
Good to know. I have an LBM ferrule on my shaft which has a run of black dirt from top to bottom since I got it. I tried cleaning it which only helped a bit then it was back to the way it was.

How about Porpers LBM? I have tried these in the past and had good luck not to expensive either. These aren't the same ones form the Mueller catalog. Ordered mine from Joe. Any one else tried these?

They haven't had grice ferrule material in well over a year. Atlas or Prather don't have anymore of the old gray looking Fiber material either. Its what was on the old Valley cues. That stuff was undestructable and played fantastic.

Go with Mammoth Ivory. Plays very well, looks close to regular ivory, and stays very clean.

I've been using Porper's ferrules on Brianna cues and it seems like a nice material...a bit soft and machines real nice...I have hit a few balls with it and it's nice and solid....

Elfory-Ferrule_gemustert_007.jpg

As you can see Elforyn comes very close to real ivory. If you are interested to see the it live visit us at booth 31 at the Super Billiards Expo.

Best regards,

what about phenolic ferrules? what do you think about these? i've thought about using natural phenolic. i heard they hit great! some input please. thanks

how important is the ferrule to the "hit" of a cue? can a change in ferrule change the "feel" and "playability" the way a tip change can? what percentage do you think it plays?

(I use quotes cause i know that stuff's subjective - but i wanted to hear opinions on it)

thanks

Jay the ferrule plays a huge part in the "hit" of a cue. For example if you'd like a soft "hit" then you may like the mp ivory or Elforyn...a harder hit is melamine or Ivorine 4. The ferrule is a very important aspect of tuning the "hit" to the likes of the customer. Of course the wrong tip choice can alter the ferrule feel.

ferrules softer hit / harder hit

Could someone rate the ferrules from softer hit to the harder hit?
This list would make a great reference!

Softer........Ivory X
Elforyn
Ivory
Titan
LBM
Saber-T
Ivorine 3
Melamine
Ivorine 4
Harder...... Phenolic

Not sure of proper order.
Add any other ferrules not listed.

Thanks for the info.

Later,
sax

I like the style of your cues, in perticular I like the one labeled S.NOBIS 25/25 COCO SPEARS

I also like the look of ELFORYN...

What kind of turn around could a guy expect on a cue? something like the NOBIS Model.

Thanks, SPINDOKTOR
