Fights In Poolrooms Over E-Cigs?

You HOPE they don't find any bad side affects?
When people began smoking cigarettes they didn't know the bad side effects either.

Some people are claiming that "e-cigs are innocuous."
We don't know everything about them yet.
Hell, it's only been a few years since general use.
Are we to go through this again? Just because one can't "see" the exhaust,
it doesn't mean that it isn't there.
It's common sense that with a chemical process there are by-products.
Water vapor? Sure, what else? Does anyone truly know?
Keep your e-cigs out of my face please.

Sure e-cigs have only been in use for a short time, but hospital nebulizers and concert fog machines have been in use for many many years. They work the same way as e-cigs. The juice contains nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavoring, and water. PG is what produces fog in concert fog machines. VG is a food additive.

Many juices have no PG either, just VG, flavoring, and nicotine (you can get zero-nicotine juice too). There are no harmful byproducts. Nicotine in small amounts is present in the vapor though.

Well, you seem to know a bit about the e-cig.
So if what you say is true (in red above)—
that water vapor "carries" traces of nicotine in the air—
how do you convince these e-cig users that the vapors ARE harmful to others?

Will they be convinced only when low-immune systems become impacted?

How about a fight on azb over e-cigs? Ever seen one of those? Well u have now.

I think it's a good debate.
It's certainly relevant to pool as it seems many a pool player wishes to use e-cigs,
which is certainly their right to do so, but...

The unfortunate down side is (and the research is out there already)
many who DO use e-cigs DON'T end up quitting smoking after all. Go figure.

Ex-smoker and current vapor. I vape in pool rooms if allowed by owner. Have no problem going outside if owner or other people don't appreciate it. I do put out a huge cloud with my device so I understand if vapor bothers players vision

Those that don't quit smoking don't want to quit. There is still a level of motivation required to not purchase or bum cigarettes even with an e-cig.

I would like to see the stats on how much negative impact an e-cig's exhaled vapor has on bystanders as compared to 1.) normal cigarettes 2.) automobile exhaust and 3.) heat exhaust from a forced air heat system... What would be the most harmful? My guess is auto exhaust... Should we get rid of cars now too? Where does it stop?

If it's a non-smoking establishment, vaping isn't smoking. Is it a tobacco free area? It's not a tobacco product. Unless the place establishes that they do not wish e-cigs to be used indoors there, they, (the persons using the e-cig) are doing nothing wrong. Don't like it? Move to another table or leave.

I do have to caveat my last post with this: depending on the PG/VG ratio, more or less vapor is created and exhaled. That can be distracting/distressing to some. I really don't have any sympathy for those that are inconsiderate in their use of e-cigs, or objection of their use.

I've been vaping now since February 7, 2013. After 11+ years of smoking, I don't miss it, but I still crave a cigarette every so often all the same.

why can't we ask just get along?

Let me get this straight.
One can quit smoking, vis a vis, an e-cig.
So that means there is nicotine in those tubes—or as kvinbrwr connotes, some bud, if one chose.
Ergo, when "vaped" it is STILL second-hand smoke wafting in the air.

NO THANK YOU. I'm a non-smoker.
If I saw someone vaping in the pool room or anywhere around me I would certainly cause (my own) stink.
Fight? Maybe not that, but if you want to "vape" go fu*#@*! outside!!!

I'll have to admit, I looked at this thread assuming it was almost silly and a joke--then after reading a few people's responses I could see myself fighting over the attitude of some of the people responding. If you come up to me and tell me to 'go the f*ck anywhere' you better be prepared to make me. If you want to act like an adult and politely ask me to not smoke so close to you, I'll gladly apologize for the inconvenience it caused and oblige your wishes.

Attitude is everything, treat people with respect and you'll get it in return.

Hey Johnny, What's up with the fighting comments and threads lately? Anyway I grew up in the cigarette era of pool when you could look through the clouds of smoke wafting in the air under the lights of the tables. I have never seen a fight over a cigarette and hope that I will never see or hear of a fight over E Cigs. What is up with folks that want to fight over such trivial stuff??

No, it is not.

But don't let that stop ya.

No smoke, it's water vapor and it dissipates into the air very quickly. In fact, if you hold it in for a few extra seconds, you breathe out nothing at all. I guarantee someone could do it right next to you and you'd never even notice.

Vapor -> Vaping
Smoke -> Smoking

2 very different things.

I was at Big Dog's last night watching Scott Frost beat Danny Smith in 1-Pocket. A guy next to me was vaping and I saw the mist several times but never could smell it at all.

Compare that to the other night in the hall....I was just to start my 9-ball match and my opponent says, I've got to go outside and have a smoke. So I wait. Then wait some more. Then lose interest in the game. Then he shows up. I"ll take the vapers inside the private business anytime over those who have to go out into the public to smoke.

I am not a smoker. Folks vap in our pool hall all of the time. I can stand right next to them and they don't bother me a bit. I think they are a great substitute. I hope they do not find any bad side affects with them because they seem like a much better choice than cigarettes.

They are I'm sure better than cigarettes but inhaling a vaporized chemical compound into your lungs will have long term side effects.

I feel sorry for all those people who have nebulizers and inhalers. they're killing themselves slowly every time they use them, in that case.

Whatever nicotine traces remain are very quickly dissipated either through the evaporation of the vapor into the air, or by the recycling of air through HVAC systems. Air is replaced very frequently with HVAC.

You're right. Fight is not what I meant. Argue is what I should have said. Johnnyt

I quit smoking using chewing tobacco. I wish that vaping were as prevalent then as it is now, probably would have been a way better alternative.

I'm not so fond anymore of e-cigs.
I gambled with a guy who was using one....
....he had a vapor lock...

I've actually experienced some pretty profound side effects while vaping my Purple Bubba Kush Indica.

This may have been Kevin's last post.....
....we're going to miss your humor and cue expertise.

Rest in peace
