Filipino/Bicycle/Pump Stroke

There are a lot of places to find info on the pendulum stroke, and I play alright when using one. However, I find that I play a little better when using a pump stroke. I'm just not that comfortable with it, and the only real lessons I've had in regards to the stroke/stance is watching videos of Efren.

Are there any books or websites that teach the pump stroke, or do most focus on the pendulum stroke?

IMO watching any filipino plays will teach you how to do their type of stroke, they are all similier to each other. as mike sigel used to call it a Pump stroke. specially watching EFren reyes.

Ok to be honest, It's just my own opinion but I think that this stroke have Pros and Cons on it. when you learn it right you will have a incredible feeling on your cueball and you will gain a real nice touch on the balls, you will be able to do stuff that you would never do in any other stroke. but the bad thing about it (AS I see it) if you are not feeling well or a bit struggling in running out or shooting bad, you will Jump up after shots, it will be hard for you to stay down after the shot. and it's extremly will happen for you under pressure, in tournoments, Gambling games.

you will find out that you're shooting and jumping after shots & missing them, also this will happen in an older age >.<

you can see this in the old filipino players, even efren is doing it a bit more now adays.

Thats my own analyse, haven't read it anywhere and nobody told me about it before. Its just how i see it.!

Well I think anyone can have a bad day regardless of their stroke. I've pretty much been practicing like crazy with the pump stroke. I'm just really focusing on shot making and speed control, so I can work on my consistency.

Circle stroke

In olathe I got a chance to look good at the fillippino stroke. I had a friend help me practice. I refer to it as a circle stroke. Your arm moves around in a circle. What I do like is on the final stroke- it is accurate,so close to the body. When you can't beat um join them. good topic. mark

ive always used the pump stroke like efren does. see the thing is, it has to be your routine. all the filipino shooters/good shooters, what they do isjust a routineof stroke. u have to get used to it and do the same number of stroke EVERY SINGLE SHOT! if you notice efren plays, when gets down on the table, he let his stroke loose at first but then you will notice that he will stop infront of the cue ball for about 2 sec. then he will do a 1-2 hit on the cue ball. That's his routine.

now, id like to share something that i really dont tell anybody about. I learned a stroke from "the LION". what he said is that, before you shoot the ball, the last stroke, you have to pause at your BACK STROKE, then hit the cue ball. that's what the new technique that pros discovered. he said that, its better because your straight line from your stroke comes from behind then hit the cue ball, rather than coming from the front then back then hit the cue ball again. it will be more accurate because there is only one straight line from behind than coming from front and back which is 2 straight lines which you will have more chance for your stroke to curve and/or stand up.

But it will take about a month or two to get used to that stroke. and as what i said, YOU HAVE MAKE IT AS YOUR ROUTINE.

Try to watch alex pagulayan. i think allison fisher does that to.

i hope this helps.

Keep strokin,
Lorenz

I don't see that much difference compared to what many would call "text book". Final delivery of the cue will be the same.

efrens stroke is, i think so far, the best for me... i use it alot wen there is alot of pressure... stay loose... you just gotta find the stroke that matches you
